Congratulations to all the young men recognized by the Louisville Courier-Journal!

 

Question: Mr Jones of the Louisville Courier-Journal noted 110 coaches cast ballots for the 2012 team; does anyone know what the final response percentage was? For example does 110 cast ballots equal a 90%, 95% or 100% response percentage from the coaches?

 

Well there are over 200 schools that play football so you do the math.

Then maybe the coaches from NKY should have cast their ballots. It's obvious from the results that they didn't.

It's not a participation award. It's supposed to be the top players in the state. I don't think anyone is saying that the players on the list are not good, but WE find it hard to believe that guys that are described as "worked real hard in practice most of the time" are better than kids that led their teams to state championships and others that clearly showed their dominance head to head! (See Cov Cath/JC game) many others overlooked as well.

 

Like I said earlier.....It all falls on your head coach. Did he get your players names out there? No its not a popularity contest but stats, or how many trophies you have don't tell the whole story either. Obviously your coach didn't put in the work to make sure your team was represented plain and simple.

Our coaches won the games on the field, where it matter the most but you keep the individuals trophies but understand, when it came to the games on the field, our kids and coaches won and yours lost, where/when it really mattered the most!

That could very well be the answer. Just find it hard to believe CJ reached out to all nky coaches and no one responded. Or only the ones with average players did. If the coaches didn't respond, then its partially their fault. But if you're a respected media source that should take pride in naming an all-state team, then maybe they should work a little harder at gathering the data. Not sure what they do, but i would bet it was no more than a email out to coaches. If they didn't respond, no vote. Not sure if that is the process or not, but CJ should have more responsibility if they want to remain respectable. Follow up with a call, etc. And if HHS didn't respond, how did they get one kid on the list and not some of their other impact players? Yes, I'm a HHS guy, but the only reason I'm using them as an example is because someone knew about one of their players but not the rest? You would think if they didn't respond, there would be no one from HHS on the list.

I agree. I'm guessing they didn't or not enough from that region didn't vote. That's the only thing that makes sense. Everyone always votes for 'their' guys.

Then why complain? I didn't play your team nor anyone in the vastly superior Northern part of Kentucky. Last time I looked Cov Cath didn't hoist a trophy this year so it seems that you are lumped with the rest of us. My team was 10~2 and didn't put a single guy on the AP or the Best of the Bluegrass so what should I complain about?

I had to put together a preseason basketball preview for the 12th region for BGP this season. I sent an email to each coach requesting information so I could be as thorough as possible in my preview because since it would have my name on it I wanted it to be as accurate as possible. When the deadline came I had only heard from half of the coaches. Deadline was extended and follow up emails were sent. I still didn't hear from every coach. Maybe 10 of the 17 responded. One responded after I put the preview out. My point is that emails, follow up emails and calls don't matter if they don't pick up the phone or take 5 minutes out of their day to respond.

It's naive to believe a coach from WKY is going to vote for a kid from anywhere else in the state. It's naive to believe a coach from NKY is going to vote for a kid from anywhere else in the state. It's naive to believe a coach from EKY is going to vote for a kid from anywhere else in the state. It's naive to believe a coach from Lex/CKY is going to vote for a kid from anywhere else in the state. It's naive to believe a coach from Louisville is going to vote for a kid from anywhere else in the state.

Prove to me which guy is better? Tell me how you know how NCC's left guard is better than Bell County's. When presented with 2 players that are not in the news all the time ( Quick, Timmons, etc) a coach will pick a kid from their area or that they played. That's common sense.

Obviously you aren't following along so I'll say it again but in consecutive sentences.

 

This team is compromised of the results of the votes of the coaches who actually took the time to send their votes in. By no way is this team a representation of THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE COMMONWEALTH. I thought the point about this team being a result of the 110 coaches who actually voted was already made. And for the record, I think this team is a poor representation of the best players in the commonwealth but if only half of the coaches in the state actually voted well as I said in a previous post.......there you have it.

I don't have an answer for your question. I don't like it either that they had 8 because I think my team deserved more. With only half of the schools reporting I'd say the schools in your area that see your players didn't vote. Teams will not vote for people they don't see or hear about...the schools that turned their votes in can't be punished for that.
