As a fan of T & BG I will say the following: Give me an all-star team of players LEFT OFF COMPLETELY from BG, X, HHS and Cov Cath, and they would beat the second team all-state easily, and maybe even the first team.

Can we all agree that both the CJ and AP have both used a poor process to select "all state" teams? Clearly both teams are horribly flawed, and for any entity to publish such a list knowing that the process has failed is bad journalism. Both the AP and the CJ have gone to courts at the highest levels representing themselves as the last line of integrity in society. The overseers of government, big business, societal rights and wrongs, and of course political correctness. .....And then they publish this garbage.

 

Shame on you. An apology is owed by both for publishing what they both knew to be horribly inaccurate information.

 

The built in defense is that we let the coaches vote and merely reported what they voted, or it is a representation of the media who covered the sport. However, they had to know how horribly inaccurate the result was, yet added their own editorial information (Player profiles), and then published it under their own name.

Folks, if you're that bent out of shape because kids from your schools weren't named to the C-J team; I suggest that you go to your coach and find out if he voted. If not, I'm guessing that it just wasn't a priority.

I understand your point about coaches not calling back. I really do. And i get that it is what probably happened here. But again, find it hard to believe that ALL the nky coaches had no response. And again, why did they know/vote for a HHS offensive lineman but not anyone else?? With your theory, it makes no sense.

 

Your example of the BGP rankings you did...you aren't paid to put out rankings and ALL-STATE awards. You are talking about a preseason BBall ranking, not all-state awards! A lot of difference. I'm sure you did your absolute best to get the best results. Knowing you, you put a lot of time and effort into it! And i sure they were pretty darn good! However, if a media source puts out the awards each year for god knows how many years, it is their JOB to do their due diligence to get it as close as possible. Yes, it's only a piece of paper, but accolades like this go a long way for a player. What's one of the first things you hear when people are describing players? Post, present or future. Whether they made certain teams, right? We are talking about the CJ! Not a blog sight that everyone does as a volunteer! They should get it right. Not just rely on regional coaches votes. Do your homework CJ!!! Frankly,they should be embarrassed to print a list like this! No offense to the kids that are on it, but more sticking up for the kids that aren't! Not just from nky. If the CJ wants to put their name behind a list that people will respect, THEY should be responsible for doing the work to get it right. If all they are going to do is rely on regional coaches to respond, then they shouldn't even make an attempt at the list.

 

Also, when did they reach out? Maybe it was when the coaches from HHS, Cooper, NCC and Beechwood were still in the playoffs and didn't have time to respond.

This post hits the nail on the head!! For me, it's not about kids from MY school not getting on the list. It's about the individual efforts that several of these kids put out to make themselves the best they can be and they can publish this crap in what is supposed to be a respected media outlet with very minimal work and research.

Because there will be head scratching selections and omissions with the BGP team as well.

I agree that there are several teams in the state who beat this team. My observation is the schools that these"All Staters" are going to. Most are NAIA, or Divion 2 schools. How many "All Staters" from Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc. are limited to Div. 2, or NAIA? All Coaches need to vote, although I am not sure that solves the problem. Each region protects and promotes itself, even on here. Some of these kids might not even start at some programs.

I think the difference is that BGP is a very elite group in terms of numbers and CJ is the most broad in terms of numbers. The criteria for making BGP is a very, very, very high bar with lots of review. I would hate to be on the selection function for that. There are very tough decisions to be made and without a doubt deserving players will not make the final list.

 

The CJ All State is by far the broadest representation of the state. 3 full teams, deep honorable mention lists. This is a chance for players who do not live the in metro areas and get the all-city or all-mountain, AP, etc. awards to get due recognition. But to omit a player like Highlands McCoy all together?

 

Maybe the CJ needs to not just go off the coaches voting alone and use staff picks to 'help' the process - sort of like the coaches pick in the Ryder cup. You can argue 1st, 2nd, 3rd, HM slots all day. But with such a broad of honorees there should be no reason to omit obvious players that should be there. At least add them to the HM list as adds to not take away from the coaches voting.

Just because your going to a D1 school doesn't make you an All State player in my book. There are a lot of really good high school football players that are not D1 players. Alot of that is based on projection and potential. Kinda like how the Heisman doesn't mean your going to be drafted 1st.

You can have the good hs players and I'll take the D1 players and beat you every time. Do you really think players going to D1 schools aren't good players? Insanity.

You won't find a more thought out All State team in this state and unlike the other All State teams every single person on this website has an opportunity to nominate and state their case for their nominee.
