Rangers at Reds (6/14 - 6/16)

Recommended Posts

The 30-36 Reds (no longer in the basement of the NL Central), off a long road trip ending with a split of a two game series with the Indians, come back home to host the 36-31 Rangers who are in 2nd place in the AL West (yet are further back from the front running Astros than the Reds are from the Brewers). Can the real Reds hitters show up so that we start a streak to make up some real ground in the standings? Can the Reds pitching continue to be consistent?

Starting pitchers:

6/14 - 7:10 PM - Smyly 1-5 8.40 ERA 44 SO 1.91 WHIP (TEX) vs. Mahle 2-6 4.21 ERA 69 SO 1.22 WHIP (CIN)

6/15 - 7:10 PM - Minor 5-4 2.52 ERA 93 SO 1.18 WHIP (TEX) vs. Roark 4-5 3.74 ERA 69 SO 1.41 WHIP (CIN)

6/16 - 1:10 PM - Jurado 4-2 3.02 ERA 34 SO 1.27 WHIP (TEX) vs. Gray 2-5 3.65 ERA 71 SO 1.22 WHIP (CIN) - Happy Father's Day!

One can look at the Friday night Rangers pitcher's stats and say, "We got this." However, this year, with the status of the Reds bats, we have made a lot of bad pitchers look good.

Very true. However Smyly hasn't made it out of the 4th inning his past two starts. He doesn't strike a lot of people out, so it's not like he's got swing and miss stuff. We need a big game from Suarez and Puig in this one. Also, to the point that @16thBBall Fan mentioned in the Indians thread...Casali should definitely get the start in this one. Likewise, Peraza will get the nod over either Dietrich or Winker.

The Rangers have won 19 of their last 28. One of the hottest teams in baseball right now

Cubs were that way too. In fact I think they had won 8 out of 10 series, with the only two series losses being to the Reds. Unfortunately since that last meeting with the Cubs, the Reds are 0-2-2 in series. Maybe this is the one that gets them going again.
