Congratulations! From what I have heard he is great with the kids he shouldn't have a hard time getting kids on the field.

Sounds like a good hire. A resume that kids should want to play for. He should use the Simon Kenton program builder method. Make the schedule the next two years fit a ground zero rebuild and pick the right opponents. Make success easily achievable then build from there.

Does anyone know how long Coach Herbst had been at Simon Kenton? Like VOR said, using Simon Kenton's rise from the state of their programs in the 1990s to their program's success in NKY in the 2000s and 2010s would make for a good blueprint at Dayton. Was Coach Herbst there from the beginning of Coach Marksberry's term at SK to see how everything was done from the beginning of their program's reconstruction?

The obvious obstacle #1 for the new coach is going to be the size of the school. Dayton has an enrollment of 352 and is 45% male, compared to Simon Kenton's 1761 enrollment and 52% male. Dayton also is fighting against 83% of their student body coming from economically disadvantaged households, compared to Simon Kenton only having 32% of their students coming from economically disadvantaged households.

Then the next issue is going to obviously be simply gaining more interest in the football team itself. Remember, they had enough issues with team numbers at Dayton in 2018 that they had to forfeit two games because their team numbers were too low because of injury.

One of his first hires was coach Debrueller, a Dayton Grad, and was the DC at Holmes. He is already making hires who know Dayton, and who knows those types of "disadvantaged" kids and how to coach them. Shouldn't be an issue getting kids out to play for them.

I am from this area. It will take a lot of hard work. The Dayton that they remember may not be the same Dayton that is there today.

Dayton programs of 60's were downright tough. Beat your brains out on that always sloppy field. Never heard anybody prove the watering conspiracy, but just new they had some players that would knock your block off your shoulders. Great tradition in that era. Hope new coach can replicate.
