Wireman
Saturday's game between Corbin and Doss has been cancelled. Corbin basketball game vs. Doss cancelled for Saturday | News | somerset-kentucky.com CORBIN — Athletic directors from two schools agreed to cancel a basketball game due to social media circumstances and alleged scheduling conflicts. During an interview on Friday morning, Louisville Doss High School Athletic Director Danny McCreedy said he had spoken with Corbin High School Athletic Director Andrew Roark and the two made the decision to cancel the two teams’ boys basketball game in the Petrey & Newcomb Orthodontics Classic in Corbin on Saturday. “We had a few issues with going down there,” McCreedy said, when asked how the decision was made to cancel the game against Corbin. “With the climate and things that were going on, we wanted to avoid any potential issues that could arise — given all the circumstances surrounding some of the social media things.” “We know kids react with emotions especially surrounding a basketball game,” McCreedy said. “We didn’t want that to be the catalyst for something that doesn’t belong in high school sports.”

jblanton
Yeah. The comments by the kid were really dumb. Yeah they were dumb. No kid should say things like that, but as Doss you go in there on a missionwin a basketball and shut them up. That’s the best way to fight racism instead of turning away. The burden of ending racism in Corbin isn’t on Doss.

No. It was a risk to play that meaningless game. And if they wanted to make a statement and bring light to the situation, not playing was the way to do it. PurplePride92
Wow. I guess I’m with the side that believes in standing up to racism and not hiding from it. Guess so. I’m on the side of not having something stupid break out(likely) and the team loaded with black kids being at fault. Because we all know it would be their fault. Doss made a smart and thoughtful decision.

True blue (and gold)
Wow. I guess I’m with the side that believes in standing up to racism and not hiding from it. This is standing up. MLK taught us all about non-violent protests. We are talking more about it than we would had the game been played.
jblanton
Not playing the game is not taking a stand. It is bailing out. Makes you look weak. The racist Corbin fans are most likely laughing at Doss for being scared. Running away just makes racism stronger which is a shame.

IF this is true, then the right thing for Doss to do was not show up. I think KHSAA should step in and hand down sanctions on Corbin.
