  1. My daughter plays softball and basketball for Boone. Last year I asked Coach Fookes if my daughter should play AAU to help her game and she said no. She actually encouraged my daughter to play softball and that there would be plenty of time for basketball. Most of Boone's girls play muliple sports and the coaches for the most part work well together.
  2. 1. Revamp the system: There has been a great deal of disparity in the program. There's been very little involvement with the Pee Wee feeder system, the Freshman team was isolated and often ignored, and the JV team was often treated like a step-child and used primarily as a scout team. They didn't practice as a unit and didn't know who their kicker would be until the first game. There needs to be a plan and involvement from the Top down. 2. Utilize the athletes in the program. There is so much speed and athleticism on the team, yet many times it went to no avail because of the "system" which called for a run up the middle 30 times a game. Develop your system around your athletes, don't pigeon hole your athletes into a system. The game has become one based on speed and Boone has not adapted. 3. Embrace the community, parents, and supporters of the program. The former Coaches many times were polarized towards the ones who cared about the program most. *On a side note, I've heard that Coach Griffith has already reached out to the Pee Wee program and he hasn't even got to town yet!
  3. Boone got outside today some but the field was still too wet to take infield.
  4. It's obvious you don't know how the process works. They had to post the position for 30 days. During that period, they received numerous applicants. Afterwards, they had a committee review the applicants and narrowed the field to the top seven candidates. All seven were then interviewed and three were brought in for a second interview. An offer was made today. They didn't rush to judgment but used due diligence to find the right person for the job.
  5. Boone Co. and Grant Co. are scheduled to scrimmage on Monday.
  6. What I'm hearing is that he wanted "teacher's salary" without having to teach, and I'm also hearing that he wanted his own staff hired on as teachers. All rumors though, those in the know aren't saying anything.
  7. It looks as if Maddie Graham will get the bulk of the duty along with Kiersten Maines. Both are very capable. Maddie caught a lot for JV last year.
  8. They're still deciding, but look for freshman Sydney Foster to play there. She played SS for JV last year and led them in hitting from the lead off spot. She played in the outfield some for varsity. She's the fastest girl on the team. With her, McCarthy (SS), and Stein in Center the would have tremendous speed in the middle of that defense. Foster has a strong arm so they haven't given up on her in the outfield or third base either.
  9. I'm not certain if it's split evenly or pro rated based upon how many games you play in the tournament. I believe the latter is the format.
  10. They play the tourney at BOKC because the teams split $55k in revenue from the Center. The AD's and Principles of the schools don't have to open their gyms, pay ref's, security, and janitor fee's, plus run the refreshment stand; and make money for their program instead of losing it because only 175 people showed up!
  11. Word on the street has Knotts pitching innings will increase this year due to injury's of other girls.
  12. Boone vs. Ryle for the District Championship tonight, who's going to win? I'll take Boone in a close one to avenge a very embarrasing lost to Ryle a few weeks ago.
  13. No one can dispute Nell's ability or success; she wasn't the "typical" factor on the sidelines in this game though. She had the intestinal flu and was very sick. She was the least animated and vocal that I've ever seen her! Boone won on hustle and determination, period! Connor could have and should have put the game away with 4 minutes to go but Boone stepped up their intensity and put Connor on their heels. That was the deciding factor, not the ref's.
  14. Boone came out flat and struggled to run their offense while Ryle came ready to play. Hats off to the Lady Raiders who played hard the whole game.
  15. Boone beat both SK and Walton yet they're listed 9th?? I'd say they're the ones not getting any love!
  16. The Lady Rebels have been creating less turnovers and playing with more intensity. If this trend continues, they could be positioned to make some noise in the tournament.
  17. Easily the best game the Lady Rebels have played this year!
  18. Word on the street is the phones are ringing off their hooks with applicants from both sides of the river and from all over the state. Co-ordinators from high profile programs and current head coaches from successful programs are lining up to apply. The Powers at be have a challenging yet exciting decision ahead of them.
  19. Congrats to Boone on a good, hard fought season!
  20. All of the posts make strong arguments and any of the forementioned Coaches are worthy of the award. I think Rick Thompson deserves to be in the conversation. Not many folks gave Boone much of a chance this year, me included, but they've had a great year. This may have been one of Thompson's best coaching jobs.
