  1. The Voice of Reason has a great synopsis of the game. Boone didn't show near the sets in the running game that they have in the last couple of weeks. This could account for the poor showing by Quainoo. I don't think they wanted to expose too much for the Lafayette scouts. The defensive back play for Boone was poor at best. The Linebackers also had a tough time picking up backs out of the backfield in passing situations. They will have to do a lot of work on the pass defense. The run defense was stout though. Beechwood was very tough and will once again challenge for hardware from Bowling Green. One other note, after Boone went up 20-3 early in the 2nd half, they pulled their starters and played the JV the entire fourth quarter. This accounted for the scoring disparity in the second half. Beechwood's JV is going to be something special. They were very impressive!
  2. One thing is definite, the district is going to be a blood bath! There's alot of talent and parody, and on any given night each team has a chance. It's going to be a great thing watching the season unfold. The fans are the real winners this year. We get to see a great game each week while sitting on the edge of our seats pulling for our teams to outlast their opponent.
  3. Tonight Boone County traveled to Grant County and participated in a four team scrimmage, the two already mentioned along with Harrison County and Iriquois High. As expected, Boone dominated the smaller schools and did what ever they desired on offense and defense. It was hard to get a read on where they are but I came away very optomistic. They used both Quainoo and Openheimer evenly in the backfield and threw the ball 50% of the time. They're not as big up front as in recent years but much quicker and did a super job opening holes and pass protection. They're defense is very fast to the ball and were better than I expected. Alford has improved at QB and will be a force to be reckoned with. I wouldn't pencil in Simon Kenton or Conner as District Champs just yet. Boone looks poised to defend their two consecutive titles.
  4. The defense remains their biggest question. They may have to win in shootout fashion early. I think the Rebels are going to be fun to watch this year.
  5. You're so right, the defense is a big question mark. They have to replace alot from last year, especially at linebacker and D-backs. They're smaller but very quick to the ball. They will be baptized in the fire and tested early and hopefully a well oiled machine by district play. The kicking game is vastly improved.
  6. I watched the intrasquad scrimmage today and they both looked very good. Boone has installed several new sets as to get both backs involved in the offense including some option plays. Quainoo looked great catching the ball out of the backfield and has a mean stiffarm working for him! Oppenheimer looked great on a crack back play and is a real work horse. The O-line is not as big as in recent years but are much quicker and using alot more pulls and traps. Don't be surprised to see Boone throw the ball more this year. Alford had one of the highest scores at Meyers Florida quarterback camp this year. He looked great throwing the rock today.
  7. Congrats to SK on a hard fought and well deserved win! They played with more emotion and momentum in the 4th qtr. and it brought them the victory. Alford wasn't the QB as stated above. He was cleared to play yesterday but hadn't practiced with pads on for seven weeks. Good run BC, nobody gave you a shot (including myself) at the beginning of the year, and to overcome all the injuries the last few weeks to get this far was honorable.
  8. Boone's starting QB, Nate Alford, will be back next year. He's not playing now due to injury but he' only a junior.
  9. Thanks for giving the line some props! Last year they had a 3000 yard rusher and this year they'll end up blocking for a 2500 yard rusher yet they never seemed to get any love! Boone's coaching staff certainly knows how to teach blocking techniques.
  10. Obviously you didn't see Boone play Trinity in the state semi's last year. Boone threw the pigskin all over the field and 2900+ yards running back Corey Farris only had 11 carries in that game. This year they passed very effectively against Simon Kenton. They will do what needs to be done. Last night was very cold and several of Walsh's throws were a little high, but he came through when needed. Boone has always run the ball effectively and know which side of their bread is buttered!
  11. It will be a closer game than the first one. Boone doesn't have the same QB (he was hurt in that game) and the passing game hasn't been as effective. With that said, Boone's defense has been stout all year and they're difficult to run and score on. Look for Boone to repeat as Regional Champs in a close one; 14-7
  12. Boone is the one team that shut down Simpson, he won't have 6 rushing td's on their defense.
  13. Both defenses played great. Lokesak made a tremendous catch for the game winner, the db had him covered as well as anyone could imagine yet he reached back across his body and snatched it as he was being drilled.
  14. Quainoo looked as if he tweaked his ankle again in the first quarter. He kept sprinting on the sideline to see if it would be ok.
  15. He's a sophmore. He's much bigger than Quainoo but not quite as fast.
  16. Boone will win this time. They were flat in the first game after coming off a very emotional district championship win over Ryle. Quainoo didn't play most of the second half either. Rebels 28-14
  17. I heard that he just twisted the ankle. He was up and jogging on it on the sidelines, they shut him down and chose to ice it. I certainly would be very cautios with him this week and get him ready for the playoffs. Oppenheimer ran very hard in the fourth quarter Friday and should get some more looks in my opinion.
  18. Boone came out very flat and fumbled a punt in the first quarter which led to HC's first touchdown. Quainoo got hurt early in the second half (looked as if he turned an ankle) and did not return. HC's defense was very aggressive all night and Boone had trouble moving the ball with the exception of a scoring drive late in the game. HC did what they needed to in order to get the win, Hat's off to them.
  19. Conner should get the nod over Ryle because they beat them and they're ceded above them in the playoffs.
  20. Being hesitant, being in the wrong physical position to make a play, and not being in the best physical condition to play. Football is a violent sport, the players are getting bigger and stronger. Injuries are a part of the game, sometimes a player does everything to the best of his ability and still gets injured. Ther are times that injuries become self imposed because the player doesn't hydrate, rest, nourish, or condition their body properly.
  21. The debate in this thread is passionate and pointed. There are several NKY coaches which are deserving of the recognition. There is little argument against the success of Coach Mueller and the great Highlands program, as well for Coach Rash and another terrific year for Beechwood. Who could deny the monumetal turn around and great season for Coach Trosper and Conner? We all want to tip our hats to the sentimantal picks of Coach McMillen at Walton Verona and Coach Borchers at Cooper for beginning from scratch. I personally am proud of Coach Rick Thompson at Boone. He lost 30 seniors and nearly every skilled position player (including a 2900+ yard rushing tailback) and proceded to go out and repeat as district champs. I thought that they would be scappy but in no way expected the season that Boone's enjoyed. So who's the winner? It's simple, we the fans! We are so blessed to live in an area with so many good teams where week in and week out we get to witness the efforts and abilities of kids who have given months of sacrifice, discipline, sweat, and inner fortitude to lay it all on the line for the hope of victory. Regardless of which deserving Coach is selected, the players who have matured under their tutorledge and the fans are the real winners!
  22. Ryle has lost three games in a row and Dixie has been inconsistent all year. I don't think Dixie has the offense to move the ball against Ryle's defense. Yet, Ryle's a young team and their confidence may be shaken. I'll still go with the Raiders, Ryle 21 - 7.
