The economic situation, private schools and football
Don't know about the technology thing, I'd like to know how they screened that. How do they know that they are "technology" kids and not athletes?

The economic situation, private schools and football
Don't know the exact numbers, but a little birdie told me that Louisville Eastern has more than 800 applicants for their incoming Freshman class. He said that this is their most ever.

Manual 60 St. Xavier 53
Good win for Manual. It is always great to reach the regionals. Glad to see Jenkins is healthy. Manual has no excuses now. Preseason #1 in 7th. Time to prove it!

Franklin County Coaching Update?
Daddy, not sure that I can agree with your statement. Like it or not football is always in season. Unlike any other sport in football you must train year round. You can't begin to lift or train on July 15th, when football is "in season". I do believe that you can adjust times so each can use the fieldhouse, but to ask the football team to find something else to do is not productive.

Summer All-Star Game
No question! But, some people would argue that there are some left off that were as deserving!

Summer All-Star Game
Tough situation. Coaches try to select kids by watching film. A lot of the time coaches out in the state have little or no knowledge of the abilities of Jefferson County kids. I guess you have certain privilages when you coach in the game. Love the 4 region two game idea. Even more kids will get to play.

Another win over a team that they were picked to finish behind in the preseason. Congrats Seniors!!!

7th Region Baseball Discussion
No element of surprise for CAL this year. They may be successful using the 50 mph method, but odds are the other teams will be prepered for it. The pitching staffs in the 7th will be deep. From top to bottom I will go with Eastern. Pitching and defense wins championships.

St.X/Manual Predictions
Neutral court makes it a toss up. Top 3 in thid district are competative with each other. Don't think any of the teams in this district are serious contenders for the Regional title though. I don't see a CAL baseball thing happeng here.

AP Poll 2/16
Basketball is a different creature as far as computer rankings are concerned. Too many factors don't get considered. Should a game be weighted if it is played on a college court? How about number of games played on consecutive days or the same day? These are just a few examples I'm sure there are more. Football is very consistant. The field dimensions are the same and one game played per week

Horse Collar illegal in HS now...and other rules changes
To me it doesn't really matter where the coaches stand. The problem comes in when one official is a sideline task master and the opposite official lets the coach get to the numbers. Both sidedlines have to be handled equally.

Elliott County 89 Ballard 75
Agreed. I have nothing but respect for Ballard. I'm just not sure why people are so quick to rate them above Eastern. Eagles 2-0 head to head. More importantly they beat them on a college court. J-town handled Eastern by pressing them all over the floor. Remains to seen if they can do that on a bigger floor. 7th region rep will be battle tested at Rupp, hopefully not too beaten up:cool:

2009 Shelby County
I think that they did a good job with their non-league schedule. They certainly scheduled teams that they will be competative with. BE and Eastern (maybe Seneca) will challenge them. They should be able to handle everyone else.IMO

Eastern 78 Central 55
Aother display of good team basketball. Dowe and Thomas didn't have big scoring nights, but it didn't matter in the end. You just can't stop them all. Looks to me like Central lacks a reliable outsider shooter(or two). None the less, I believe that they will be a tough out in the 6th.

Louisville Central 3 Peat
Central will remain in 3A because they have the luxury of controlling their population. They are much like Manual. They do not have a "home school" boundary. They can pick and choose who they want to accept. The administartion has decided to stay small and hand pick the applicants to Central. Their only real competition is Manual. They have a true neighborhood setting which is a huge advantage IMO. If you look at the busing boundaries you will notice that west end students are bused to East end schools. East end kids are not bused to the West end. So, who can blame a kid for wanting to stay close to home and performing in front of their friends and neighbors.

2009 Top Juniors
Anyone that is familiar with football in the 'ville knows that DeMarcus Smith(Seneca) and Jon Davis(Eastern) are two of the premiere players in the area. Both have received an offer from Illinois. DeMarcus has exceptional talent at QB. He has a cannon for an arm and escapability. He makes Seneca very dangerous. Jon is the real deal. He is 6'4'' and 220lbs. He plays a hybrid wing/wr position on offense and lb/s position on defense. He returns punts and plays back up QB. He has had inquiries from UL, UCLA, UK, TENN, VANDY,and ND just to mention a few. Jon plays on 21-1 basketball team and was named 2nd team all-state on offense(WR). He carries a 3.4 in Eastern's AP program. He scored 2 TDs vs. Male while being guarded exclusively by Illinois signee Justin Green. These two will be fun to watch for the next two years.

Eastern 89 Atherton 66
Eagles started strong, kinda cruised, then kicked it up a notch. Long layoff showed. Atherton did a nice job of competing with their limited resources and numbers.
-
2009 Ballard (Frosh)
I will argue with anyone that will listen that there is another team in that district that is ready to establish themselves in 6A. They swept Ballard on all three levels and currently have over 700 applications for incoming 9th graders. I will also mention that they have one of the best football players in the state. Good Luck to Ballard, but IMO they don't rate in the top two in their district.

If not a district game, why would Portland Christian schedule this game? Money?

Seventh vs. Eleventh Challenge
I think it is clear to most people that the 7th and 11th districts are the strongest top to bottom. I for one would love to see them play some kind of challenge games (ACC vs BIG 10 style). The teams would have to be ranked (maybe preseason coach's rankings). Maybe they could play double headers at various sites. Maybe Harrahs could sponsor? The LUCKY 7/11 Challenge. What do you think?
