MSUEagles Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I'd bump Elliott up to 2 and leave the rest along, but this one looks a little better than Cantrell's.
Eta Rho Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 I'd bump Elliott up to 2 and leave the rest along, but this one looks a little better than Cantrell's. Elliott is 1-1 v top 10. Eastern is 3-1 v top 10. Holmes is 3-2 v top 10. Tough to put EC in front of either of those two when they both have more top 10 wins as well as more quality wins.
5thIndian Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 An arguement could be made for Elliott Co over Eastern since Ballard and Jeffersontown all 3 are ranked so close together and from the same 7th region.

Elliott got it done last week and Holmes didn't.
Eta Rho Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Rankings are all about what you've done for me lately. Elliott got it done last week and Holmes didn't. Well then they still don't have a legitimate argument for being ranked above Eastern. Eastern is 24-1 and 3-1 against the top 10. Elliott is 24-2 and 1-1 against the top 10. Why should they be ranked ahead of Eastern when they have 2 more top 10 wins and a 10 game winning streak?? Regardless, EC still lost to Shelby Valley two weeks ago. Ballard was a legit win but honestly Mason County was WAYYY overrated in the top 10....but it was a nice win over a top 20 team. Also let's not ignore the fact that Holmes has the second most top 20 wins in the state....more than Eastern and Elliott Co combined. You have to look at the big picture.

Mason County is still 12 and 15 in the 2 polls, so that is still a good win for Elliott. I personally think that Elliott County has 7 very quality wins and a loss to Shelby Valley that should've been a win. By 7 quality wins, I mean its is my opinion that they are 7-1 versus teams that are or would be top 20 teams in this state.
King James Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 a loss to Shelby Valley that should've been a win. Based on what?
MSUEagles Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Based on what? Based on the decision to spend all of Elliott's legs in the two games before SV and based on not having an appropriate gameplan in place to start the game against SV. If these two were to somehow meet again, I think Elliott would win by 10 or more points.

There's a reason computer rankings don't factor in out of state wins/losses though. Not enough common opponents. If that's what a few EC fans want to fall back on, have at it, but honestly the teams who continue to beat tough in state teams are going to receive more recognition because there's no way of knowing whether or not that out of state team would be top whatever in the state...it's all a matter of an opinion..

It's real tough to say that though considering SV had a 10+ point lead the majority of the game and them missing 11 straight free throws was the only reason EC hung around. SV very well could have won by 20+.

I'm not sure how much more recognition Elliott can get. They have had features in USA Today, the Lexington Herald Leader, the Courier Journal, and the Daily Independent. Joe B. Hall called them his favorite team ever. I think they're getting plenty of recognition. That being said, those out of state teams were no slouches.

SV very well could have won by 20+. Its not tough to say that if you were actually there. Elliott had dead legs and it was very apparent. They also had no gameplan in place whatsoever to attack the SV defense. Once they got things figured out, they won the rest of the game, but it was too deep of a hole to recover from (16-3). I think Mays learned a few lessons in the All A games and he has the team playing great heading into tournament time.

JPP Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I for one feel this is the best poll that ive seen. I believe the top 5 is dead on, its just a question where you put them. Scott Co. should be #1 due to consistent perfomance against a brutal schedule. I think the rest of the top 5 could be shuffled and I wouldnt argue. The only team IMO with a legitimate arguement outside of this is Jtown, and they are rated at #6.
