Thought you was finished dogging Elliott and their fans?:idunno:

I wasn't dogging them or their fans. Just because I don't agree with something said about them, doesn't mean I'm dogging them. Sorry if you took it that way.

Its not tough to say that if you were actually there. Elliott had dead legs and it was very apparent. They also had no gameplan in place whatsoever to attack the SV defense. Once they got things figured out, they won the rest of the game, but it was too deep of a hole to recover from (16-3).

I think Mays learned a few lessons in that All A games and he has the team playing great heading into tournament time.

So do you think if SV makes 8-11 of those last free throws, EC still only loses by 3?

I agree they didn't have a good game plan, but at the same time, you have to give SV credit for having a great gameplan and exploiting EC's weaknesses throughout the game. Let's not forget SV also had a much tougher road to the semi's having to beat Newcath before playing EC. I'd say they were more tired than EC. I don't buy the "they had tired legs" excuse...these are high school kids. Why did it affect EC but not SV?

I'm not sure how much more recognition Elliott can get. They have had features in USA Today, the Lexington Herald Leader, the Courier Journal, and the Daily Independent. Joe B. Hall called them his favorite team ever. I think they're getting plenty of recognition.

That being said, those out of state teams were no slouches.

I'm talking about in the polls, getting recognition. It's not like other teams haven't received the same publicity though. Heck, Holmes and Scott Co are both currently ranked in the top 25 of 3 different national polls.

I never said the teams they played were slouches...just stating my opinion that when it comes to rankings, people doing these polls look much closer at beating the top in state teams...not out of state teams that they know nothing about.

I for one feel this is the best poll that ive seen. I believe the top 5 is dead on, its just a question where you put them. Scott Co. should be #1 due to consistent perfomance against a brutal schedule. I think the rest of the top 5 could be shuffled and I wouldnt argue. The only team IMO with a legitimate arguement outside of this is Jtown, and they are rated at #6.

I agree completely. :thumb:

It's real tough to say that though considering SV had a 10+ point lead the majority of the game and them missing 11 straight free throws was the only reason EC hung around. SV very well could have won by 20+.

I am not sure about your math on this one. If they missed 11 free throws and they only won by 3, I don't think they could have won by 20. One thing is consistent on this site Eta will always find a way to belittle Elliott and the opponents that they have beat. I remember him posting last week that Mason was a legitimate top 10 team and Elliott would have alot of problems with them, but now they were overrated. Hopefully, Elliott will have a few more miracles in their sleeve when state tournament rolls around. I hope they don't dissapoint you Eta.

I have watched 20 plus Elliott games every year the last 4 years and the Shelby Valley game was a bad as I have saw them play the last 2 years. I have saw Shelby Valley play a few times as well. I would love to see Shelby Valley get Elliott's best effort. I hope they do meet again at the state tournament, if both teams are fortunate enough to make it there. That being said Shelby Valley is a very good team, a top 5 team. If you believe that Shelby Valley got Elliott's best effort that game, then go ask S. Charleston, Ballard, Mason County, or some the teams that they played in the beach ball classic how well Elliott played that game.

I agree Elliott should be around 3rd or 4th in the state right now. Elliott has a better record than SV and they lost by 3 to them, so it is not ridiculous that Elliott be ranked ahead of them. But Eta argues that SV should be ranked ahead of them. Elliott is 24-2 and SV is 24-4 and I would be so bold to say Elliott has played the tougher schedule of the two. However, Holmes just got beat by Boone Co who has a 20-4 record, so shouldn't they be ranked ahead of Holmes 25-2 since they just beat them by more than SV beat Elliott. Do I honostely feel that Boone should be ranked ahead of Holmes? no. Do I think SV should be ranked ahead of Elliott? no.

You know, those kinds of games often come against the better teams on your schedule.

Shelby Valley is a well-coached team that has the personnel to cause Elliott some problems. I dare say that had something to do with the outcome.

The Massey Ratings rank Elliott County's average opponent about a point better than Shelby Valley's average opponent.

Massey ranks Elliott's schedule as the state's 33rd-toughest, with Shelby Valley at #42.

Did I not say that Elliott's schedule was tougher. If you were at the game it was clear that Elliott missed alot of open shots. They also missed a few wide open layups that Shelby Valley's defense had nothing to do with. Elliott has played against some good defensive teams and faired far better in other games. Hopefully, you will get to find out how good Shelby Valley's defense is, if they meet again. I said Shelby Valley was a top 5 team, but I have watched both play multiple times and Elliott wins 7 out of 10, if they play them ten times. Also, I would bet anything that Elliott plays in a tougher region than SV. I would put East Carter, West Carter, and Morgan County (All in Elliott's district) against anyone else in the 15th besides SV. I believe any of these three teams would be number 2 in the 15th right now.

How do you find these ratings, id really love to look at them.

It probably is, but not by a big margin.

If you were at the game it was clear that Elliott missed alot of open shots.
When a team relies on the three that much, poor shooting games happen.

I said Shelby Valley was a top 5 team, but I have watched both play multiple times and Elliott wins 7 out of 10, if they play them ten times.
A lot of us would beg to differ, considering that Shelby Valley led by double digits for much of the fourth quarter.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure SV missed 9 FT"s! If were going to count them for SV we would have to count EC's 4 missed FT"s also!! That change's it somewhat not that it means anything other than trying to make EC look worse!!!!!!!!!

Elliott missed 9 FT's against Ballard which would have given them an more impressive 23pt victory,BUT they didn't hit them and SV didn't hit their's either so the victorie's are what they were!!! 3 for SV and 14 EC!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't saw a game yet where they actually counted the "what if's"!!!!!!!!!!

But I guess a person can use them to their advantage to say this could have been or that could have been in a positive or negative way!!!!!!!!!!

One thing for sure, whatever Elliott's win's were or schedule is most ALL the poll's have them at or near the top and that is what stir's the pot!!!!!!!!!!:taz::taz::bunny::bunny:

SV was up 55-40 with just over 3 minutes left. You're right that SV missed 9 straight, but the only reason EC even made a game of it was because SV couldn't make their free throws down the stretch. Also what does the Ballard game have to do with anything? Nobody's even brought that up.

I personally have no problem with EC being in the top 5 now...just saying a few of the EC faithful should learn to give other teams a little more credit...especially a team that pretty much dominated them.

If not for Ethan Faulkner's 1st quarter ending trey Elliott scores only 4 points in the first 8 minutes of the game vs. Shelby Valley. In watching this team over 35 games the last 2 years I have never seen them play a quarter like that. It was absolutely shocking and they were sleep walking. Did SV's defense have something to do with it?? Sure it did. Did EC being in a fog have something to do with it?? Yes That was the absolute worst 8 minutes that Elliott did or can ever play. The odds of them having that kind of quarter again are off the charts IMO. May sound like excuses, but having seen them play so much basketball it is clear facts that they would have trailed about half the 16th region teams after playing what was the worst 8 minutes of basketball from them I ever witnessed. Even stunk it up worse than the Cedar Hill game!!! May have opened a can of worms, but that is honestly what transpired.

Don't really know why so many arguments pertaining to the “what if's” scenario. Holmes should be punished for the loss to a team that wasn't even in the top 10. Elliott was 1 or 2 when they loss to Shelby Valley, when they got beat they dropped to 7th or 8th. Everyone was saying every time Elliott plays a quality team they get beat, when’s the last time Elliott won a significant game, when will Elliott schedule actual opponents in the state, and the list goes on. Last week Elliott beat too top ten teams (when they played Mason they were in the top ten) and they beat those opponents in dominating fashion. Elliott has proven that they are worthy of a top three spot IMO 3rd behind Holmes and Eastern, if Holmes beat Mason and Ballard by 14 and 15 points then I think there would a argument for them to be 1 or 2. How many people on here said that there is no way you are going to beat those two teams in a week, if you beat those teams then I am on the bandwagon, you better not overlook Mason; your crazy if you think they can't match up with Elliott, I could go on for days about the negativity. The best thing about Elliott when they are playing to their potential is the look on the people's faces in the visiting section; they are always in aww. I have seen a lot of people clap for these boys on the visitors section in the middle of their crowd. When I go to games I get the biggest kick out of watching that, they have never seen anything like it and they know that. Every doubter on this site if they make it to Rupp and play like they can, will have the same look on their face and it will be a pleasure to see.

Basketball is a different creature as far as computer rankings are concerned. Too many factors don't get considered. Should a game be weighted if it is played on a college court? How about number of games played on consecutive days or the same day? These are just a few examples I'm sure there are more. Football is very consistant. The field dimensions are the same and one game played per week

Let me stop you for just a second. Boone was ranked in the top 10 in 5 out of 6 polls when they beat Holmes. BGP was the only poll that didn't have them ranked. Boone also beat Holmes on Boone's home floor. It's much more impressive to beat a team on their home floor, rather than your own.

Elliott Co on the other hand, lost to Shelby Valley on a NEUTRAL COURT and trailed by 15 up until the 3 minute mark. To say the first quarter is where they lost the game is incorrect, considering SV lead by more with 3 minutes to go in the game, than they did at the end of the first. Also Holmes has already beaten Ballard...again, on a NEUTRAL COURT. They also own the second most top 20 wins in the state and their total doubles any other team in the state, including more than Eastern and EC combined. I'd say they are worthy of a top 2 or 3 ranking, regardless of a slip up on the road against a top 10 team.

I really hate getting in to this, because it makes me look like I'm bashing EC, but in reality I'm not and really not trying to. I gave them their credit when it was due for knocking off two quality opponents. Hopefully a few of the EC fans can do the same though, instead of continually trying to take away from SV's win over them. Honestly, a lot of the things said about EC are brought upon themself from the things said on here by a few posters...

It kills me how seriously some people take these polls. You would think it was a matter of life or death the way some people get all worked up over them. Thank goodness it will all be played out on the court come March, and then somebody can say "We're #1 all they want.
