  1. I will argue with anyone that will listen that there is another team in that district that is ready to establish themselves in 6A. They swept Ballard on all three levels and currently have over 700 applications for incoming 9th graders. I will also mention that they have one of the best football players in the state. Good Luck to Ballard, but IMO they don't rate in the top two in their district.
  2. If not a district game, why would Portland Christian schedule this game? Money?
  3. I think it is clear to most people that the 7th and 11th districts are the strongest top to bottom. I for one would love to see them play some kind of challenge games (ACC vs BIG 10 style). The teams would have to be ranked (maybe preseason coach's rankings). Maybe they could play double headers at various sites. Maybe Harrahs could sponsor? The LUCKY 7/11 Challenge. What do you think?
  4. Being a person "in the know" at Eastern, I find it remarkable how similar the football and basketball team's seasons mirror each other. Neither team really held in high regard in the preseason, both beat Ballard and Male. Even more ironic is the fact that both programs swept Ballard on all three levels. However until I posted, you never really read anything from Eastern people pounding their chests. Couch(basketball) and Whalen(football) have got it going. Go Eagles! Stay humble and keep winning!:ylsuper: PS: Any one of 8 teams can with the 7TH, it is that close
  5. Not sure why Eastern gets zero respect when compared to Ballard. I don't understand how a 3 loss team outranks a undefeated team that they lost to head to head. You can use strength of schedule when you are comparing teams that haven't faced each other. Eastern 14-0 and a win over Ballard 8-4. Seems like Eastern gets very little respect. All you can do is beat the teams you play. P.S. Eastern swept Ballard at all three levels!
  6. Coach Lyons @ Southern HS has resigned
  7. Well sometimes you just have to win ugly or lucky. I guess when you start 12-0 you can't always look pretty. I think that good teams tend to make their own luck. Great job Eagles! Just keep winning.........................
  8. CM, I haven't seen Andrew play, but I did see Jon Davis of Eastern play. I believe that he may fall into that catagory. (very good all around player):ylsuper:
  9. Barrel, I agree! This defense does allow you to be flexible. A team mey bring a bunch of guys and run man behind that. This doesn't necessarily make it a Redman prototype. I agree about the kool-aid. Like I mentioned earlier that the we have run this for 4 yrs. Too many teams don't have the players to run this D. As an OC i love to play teams that run this D when they don't have the personnel. If you can control the NG and isolate the OLBs in pass coverage you have the advantage.
  10. I agree with the previous posters. The 3-3-5 was not intended to be used as a base defense(so to speak). We have run this defense for 4 yrs now. We have attended WVU coaches clinics and watched them run it. It is used to create pressure plain and simple. They stress the play of the two "swing" guys. OLB/Safety types. These guys are the foundation of the D. They must be able to man cover, play run, and rush the passer. They practice skill work with all three position coaches. The only thing that they stress with the down three is that the nose must be doubled every play. He has to be the anchor of the D. If teams don't have to double him they can release to the lb's. This really opens up the middle of the defense. Pressure and flexibilty are the main assests of this D
  11. I believe that it is: Boone Co vs Western Hills (3rd place) 7:00pm Eastern vs Fern Creek (championship) 8:30pm
  12. I understand that this is your opinion and very subjective. My point is this Eastern beat Ballard in week 9. Eastern 11 wins, Male 9 wins, and Ballard finished 6-6. To say that they were really good at seasons end is a mystery to me wk11 beat Moore, wk12 beat Henderson, wk 13 lost Trinity Eastern 2 playoff wins and then a loss to Trinity, Male 3 playoff wins then a loss to Simon Kenton. How did Ballard finish up better than the other two?
  13. PEP, Very well thought out post. You make a lot of good points. However, I do not agree that Male and Eastern are a considerable drop from Ballard, Manual, Central. I will speak to Eastern specifically, 11-2 only losses were to Trinity. Defeated Ballard and Male. Most wins by a 6A public school. Seems to me that they had a solid year.
  14. Great win to SK, to travel to Louisville and beat a good Male team is an accomplishment in itself. Best of luck next Sat. However, I must point out a couple of things before you can claim to be public school champs. Eastern and Manual both beat Male. Eastern went 11-2 with both losses to Trinity. Manual lost 3 games 2 to St. X. So, enjoy your run but most of all be thankful that your district aligned like it did. I am not saying that you couldn't beat the fore-mentioned teams(East, Man) but, you have to admit your road to the finals was much easier than theirs.
  15. I have the pleasure of watching one of the best Sophomores in the state play on a weekly basis. Eastern High School's Jon Davis is a 6'3'' 210lb wr/rb who also plays olb and returns punts. He rarely leaves the field. He led his team in TDs scored and interceptions. Jon has been invited to and attended senior elite camps(UofL, Vandy). Jon plays against some of the best competition the state has to offer. He has received letters from UCLA,Stanford, and all local D1 schools. He carries a 3.4 GPA in advanced classes. He was voted 1st team all-district as a Freshman and Sophomore. Jon was clocked @ 4.7 in the 40. If he continues to improve academically and athletically he will have his choice of college.
  16. bronc, not sure that these are the four best teams in 6A. Head to head Ballard and Eastern beat Male, Ballard split with Manual and Eastern beat Ballard. Not sure that you can't make a case that Ballard and Eastern could be two of the four(St. X, T definites)
  17. Male is now 6-3, but if I were a Male fan I wouldn't take the bridge just yet. Take a look at the 6A playoff bracket. They have a heck of a shot making it to the state championship game. On a side note, it is amazing how competative games featuring two Jefferson Co. teams are when the talent is spread out.
  18. Final. Justin Green plays entire game on Offense and Defense for Male. Eastern goes 97 yards and scores(Jon Davis) with 11 seconds left to win it.
  19. Does anyone know the bracket for round 2 if Trinity, Eastern, Ballard and Davies Co. were to win? Would Ballard(#3 seed) travel to Davies or would they play Trinity?
  20. We are more than half way through the regular season. It is obvious to most that T and X have seperated themselves from the rest of the teams in 6A. With this being said, who plays in the toughest district from top to bottom? Thoughts?
  21. One area that has been over looked is.......Trinity's willingness to use players on both sides of the ball. Will they use Radcliff on D. If I'm not mistaken they don't do this until later in the season. If X spreads them out, look for Trinity to use him. T will blitz a lot to try and force the issue. X should roll out and hit the seam routes. X scores late to win this one 17-14
