I will take Pettigrew. It is great that Walls' team won the whole thing but Pettigrew shouldn't be punished because he doesn't play on a loaded team. Mr. Basketball is an individual award. Does anyone know the last player to win it and a state championship in the same season?

It is not about whining or handouts or anything else like that. I think some private schools abuse the fact that they can have students from outside their county or state. That upsets a lot of people. JBS doesn't seem to fit that mold. Public or private, when you receive transfers regularly, there is scrutiny that comes with it. Witness Scott County's boys programs in previous years with their players from the Corbin and Lexington areas.

Coaches select the all tournament team. If you lose in the second round, you get one player. If you lose in the next round, you get two and so on. It is OK to question why a player didn't make it, but don't call out individual players who did make it.

They were very impressive. Congrats to them and their coaching staff.

I am on Fletch's side (obviously). But I would guess he was being humorous...no offense intended I am sure.

I think that is an interesting question. Is is written anywhere whether the award is for a year or a career? One thing is certain...there are some great basketball players in our state and some are going to be disappointed. Best of luck to them all.

If it means a win, I would run one offense all night. Apparently, they did enough to win. I would rather play poorly and win than play well and go home with an ever dreaded "moral" victory.

She (Brown) is a special player. I think WKU is getting a steal and she has a chance to play a lot immediately. All of the players mentioned in this thread are special. It is a matter of familiarity and individual preference when discussing the best. That is the great thing about discussions like this...it can also be the frustrating part.:lol:

Cast my vote for Hope Brown from North Hardin, especially if they make it to the state and she plays well.

I hope we all remember this thread the next time someone posts about a player yelling at an official. They are ALL kids, whether they are Miss Basketball candidates or not. And I doubt there are any parents out there, Scott County or otherwise, that would condone such behavior.

I have seen "water spills" that needed to be cleaned up when a team was out of or low on timeouts. It seems that the bench where the water is spilled usually has no towels.

If they dress 10 players, 5 have to start. At the end of the game, if the coach pulls all of his starters, there are only 5 players on the bench. That means all the starters are on the bench and all of the reserves are on the floor. If a sub fouls out, only starters are on the bench to sub for her. This is your daily math/logical reasoning lesson.

Whoever reported that is incorrect. They weren't called for 53 fouls. I am not sure about the exact total but it was not in the neighborhood of 53.

Pretty weak? Region 6 has two of the top 10-15 teams in the state. Region 5 has three top 10 teams and Franklin-Simpson from the 4th was the last team to lose a game and they are very, very good and ranked in the top 10. And that is not to slight any of the other regions in the top bracket. That is just off the top of my head.

The top half looks to be the stronger bracket. Of course, it is hard to tell until the teams actually win a region and the brackets get completed.

I wasn't there so I can't judge what happened. Here is what I do know...it is a coach's job to make his team better and see that they play hard. It is not his job to see that the game is kept close for the other team. That would be the opposing team's coach's job. Unless it is a district game, a coach can control this with their scheduling. Truth be told, we have already spent more time discussing this than the Beth Haven players and coaches have. Tournament time will be here soon...let's start looking forward to that!!!

These games are no win situations for the better team. If your team is awful, then do not schedule teams who will beat you this badly. I wasn't there and don't know anyone who was, so it is impossible for me to judge how bad it really was. As for not taking layups, etc...at what point does Beth Haven start rotating at least one or maybe even two players back to see that those breakaways don't happen? The younger kids work hard in practice everyday and it is not fair to tell them to play but try not to score. Scheduling is a coach's responsibility. I am sure these coaches knew this outcome could occur when the game was scheduled. The losing coach should get just as much heat as the winning one.

Two teams that come to mind from recent seasons are the West Carter state champion girls and the Rose Hill boys team. I would dare say that Mayo and Walker were more impressive and highly touted than Emily and Laura. I'm not taking anything away from those young ladies, but there have been some really, really good teams from the 16th region. And there have been several sets of teammates named to the Kentucky all star team. They will assuredly both be on the team but it will not be unprecedented by any means.

I agree about it all being personal opinion. And none of our opinions really matter because coaches select Miss Basketball and I doubt that every voter has seen every one of the top candidates. That is not their fault as they must worry about their own team first. I will pitch my support to Hope Brown. She had a triple double in last night's win at Doss with 20 pts, 10 reb and 12 assists. She is averaging 21 pts, 6 reb and 6 assts per game. I like Queen and the way she plays. I think Gray has an advantage because of who she plays for and who she has signed with. Sometimes that early season lead is hard to overcome.

I would like to see the 79 Lafayette team and the Fairdale teams from 90 and 91 get shots at Bingo Long and the West Virginia Traveling All Stars.

I have seen quite a few games this season and I share Fletch's opinion. (I haven't seen Scott County play). There are some very, very good players across the state. but Brown is the best senior player in any game I have watched.
