Featured Replies

15 of the 16 teams in the state tournament were public schools. All of the final four are public schools. What happend to the great advantage enjoyed by privates?

they just worry about Football.

The playing field is so unlevel the private schools need to leave the KHSAA and form their own association. Good riddance.

Sorry but this is apples and oranges. Basketball teams only require about ten decent players. Football teams require more varied skill sets and body types to field atleast 50 players for a decent 4A team, that is why there are not classes in Basketball.

Actually, one out of 16 (6%) is much more in line than the percentage of private schools in the state than the football finals usually are.

Not that any of it matters to the demagogues on both sides of the issue ...

Did you post this on the girls site also but the other way around.

Rickyp you can stir it up with the best of them. I thought you used to like public schools a few years back.

No, but someone did.

In another thread, someone asked why June Buchanon wasn't getting harassed as a private school winning. Here is what it comes down to: if you are private, big, and successful at almost anything, you are accused of cheating. Otherwise, you are in the clear.

I imagine that most everyone so inclined noticed the abundance of publics in the field this year. I believe the telling fact is that I haven't seen, heard, or read where private supporters were whining, crying, and complaining about it. That, of course, is the point that Rickyp is making. But, then, privates don't go around expecting handouts.

So true. If JBS continues to compete rather than returning to the status of perennial doormat, the accusations will follow.

I can't believe that we are going around on this again - but I guess this is an open forum and any opinion or thread is valid. I look at it this way - its not a public or private school debate, its a question of what schools do things right and which don't. There are public schools as well as privates that don't follow the letter of the law regarding issues like recruiting. Of course the majority of all Kentucky schools play within the rules. Only the ADs of most schools know the real story of their school. Unfortunately, IMO the KHSAA makes it all too easy for any school to find loopholes, and thus the problem.

RickyP, does your comment take into consideration the girls tourney who were well represented by the public school (sorry, couldn't resist playing devils advocate)?

If they decide to follow the same path other small rural privates have done in the past, the accusations will warrant merit.

It is not about whining or handouts or anything else like that. I think some private schools abuse the fact that they can have students from outside their county or state. That upsets a lot of people. JBS doesn't seem to fit that mold.

Public or private, when you receive transfers regularly, there is scrutiny that comes with it. Witness Scott County's boys programs in previous years with their players from the Corbin and Lexington areas.

If they decide to follow the same path other small rural privates have done in the past, the accusations will warrant merit.

Why limit your accusation to "small rural privates" when there are an abundance of publics, rural and urban, that can easily be added to the mix?
