  1. Wow!!! This is a shocker to me. Well, I guess on any given night.....
  2. Good road win for the Kittens. I think they've won 5 in a row.
  3. I'll join the crowd. I thought that East would win this by 7. East had been playing well and Elliott struggling as of late. This is just the win to get Elliott back on the right track.
  4. Good win for Rowan on the road. Sounds like Morgan hung in there to the end.
  5. Just stating my opinion - calm down. I didn't say that Rowan girls are not a good team and that they are not favorites right now to win the region, because they are. I have nothing against Rowan - I think they have hardworking, talented athletes who are well coached. I am saying that the Elliott boys have consistently dominated this region (by wider point margins) more than the Rowan girls have over the past few years. And I stand by my statement that, while the Elliott boys may coast to a regional championship, that its too early to state the same for the Rowan girls. If you disagree, thats your perogative.
  6. Elliott boys have shown their dominance over the region for the last 2 years and essentially have the same team back this year. This is not the case with the Rowan girls. Last year people said the Rowan girls would waltz through the region with no competition, even though Ashland was also undefeated in the 16th until the final week of the regular season. Many forget that Fleming County came very close to knocking Rowan out of the district last year. Ashland also led Rowan in the Regional Final for the majority of the game until ultimately losing by 2 points. I give Rowan all the credit in the world for winning the region, but to say they have been dominant (like Elliott's boys have been) is not the case. There is still too much girl's basketball to be played this season to say that Rowan will waltz to the championship. Some teams, like Ashland and East Carter, have not totally gelled yet and are still working on player rotation, defensive schemes, etc. To count them out, like many did last year would be a big mistake (Again, just my opinion)
  7. A very good win for the Russell girls. May be just the kind of victory they need to turn their season around.
  8. Not the sideline but the baseline. And you are right, probably time to get back to the game.....
  9. I've seen it twice. One of the assistant coaches in the 16th region even commented to me about how he had to do just this. And yes, you are correct that the coaches had to walk to the other end of the gym to get to the baseline where the fans were standing.
  10. I've attended some Fleming games where the visiting coach actually had to stand with the Fleming fans (at the baseline) because they were saying some unsportsmanlike things to the players. Also the Fleming Fans at times are less than a foot from the playing floor. If the players are doing layup drills then their momentum will most likely take them out-of-bounds and into possible contact with the fans. Not a good situation. I agree that this should not be allowed. There are better ways to show fan support.
  11. Sounds like Elliott Coounty may be the real deal. A lot of athleticism on this team and definitely a fun team to watch. With their frantic style of play they will give some team fits. Good luck to Coach Cantrell and his Lady Lions for the rest of the season.
  12. Very fast paced and furious game contributed to turnovers on both sides. The difference was the unbelieveable shooting of Ashland guard Ali Wilcox and Ashland's inside play of Katelyn Conner (double-double with at least 5 blocks). Ashland seems to be a very unselfish team who gets the ball to whoever has a hot hand. Ashland will be a tough team to defeat this year as they have many players who can lead the team in scoring on any given night. Ashland had over a 20 point lead until they began subbing in the fourth. I give credit to the Russell girls, especially Parsley and Simpson who hardly came out of this very physical game. They fought hard til the end and never gave up. Simpson is definitely a top 5 player in the region. With this type of effort, Russell will get some nice wins this year. Good luck to both teams this season....
  13. The amount of pressure that Ashland puts on Russell's guards will decide the winner.
  14. Fairview has a nice team this year. Quick guards and some good shooters. They also were not intimidated going to Ashland's place. They will surprise some people this year. Ashland looks pretty good this early in the season. A good balance between guard play and inside strength. Ashland seems to go about 9 deep without dropping off. Good luck to both teams....
  15. The Lady Lions and Ashland Kittens renew their district rivalry at Summit Middle School Gym this Saturday night. The Lady Lions are coming off of a crushing win over the Lady Royals. The Kittens have been successful in their preseason games. Who's gonna take this one?
  16. Ouch!!! Tough loss for the young Lady Royals. With more experience I'm sure that Coach Watkins will have them competing by the end of the season.
  17. No one else really in mind, Spurlock was Rowan's main point last year. Just not sure if Brockman with her tempermrnt can step in and fill Spurlock's shoes. Of course I could be wrong-only time will tell.
  18. If this is correct, it will also play itself out on the floor.
  19. To annoint Rowan as the hands-down fav of the 16th might be jumping the gun a bit. Remember that many of these Panoramas, like many pre-season scrimmages are fools gold. Don't get me wrong, I agree that Rowan should be number 1 until someone dethrones them, but I disagree that all other teams are a DISTANT second. I believe that both East and Ashland will give Rowan all that they can handle. Don't forget that Ashland only lost to Rowan by 2 in the regional final (after leading for 3 quarters) and returns 4 starters.
