We have all pretty much seen the girls doing the bend over to tie their shoes routine to catch a few seconds rest & other stuff players/coaches do during the course of the game that push the rules a little bit. Last night in the Owen/Grant game, the Owen coach was out of time outs in the 4th & Grant Co had the ball on a break. The coach the entire game had a towel around his neck...somehow that towel magically appeared on the court in front of his bench. The Grant player with the ball (who just happened to be a great downcourt passer) was on a break with open players downcourt when this towel appeared...ref called time to remove the towel..momentum lost & to overtime. Worked! (Grant did win in the overtime)

 

I know that there have to be a lot more creative coaching tactic stories out there. Anyone want to share?

I have seen "water spills" that needed to be cleaned up when a team was out of or low on timeouts. It seems that the bench where the water is spilled usually has no towels.

I have seen a high school coach ask a ref to count the bucket on a foul when it really didnt go in and the ref count it because neither one knew it if actually went in..

 

Can you believe 2 refs on the floor during a game and neither one knew if the shot actually fell?

A top notch official would have let the play continue if Grant had the numbers.

In scenario # 1 I believe that in most circles that would be called cheating. If I was officiating I not only would have let play continue but issued a technical to the bench.

The coach jumped up & down pointing to the towel & yelling at the ref on that side of the court (at midcourt), who looked back at him & then down to see what he was pointing at & called time...the Grant player with the ball was near that sideline in front of the Owen bench...the other 4 Grant players were already past midcourt on the fastbreak & 2 Owen players were trying to come back to cut off the Grant player with the ball...she was looking to pass downcourt when they stopped play. Grant had the numbers as Owen Co had not gotten back yet on the break. The Grant Co coach was VERY vocal on this one.

I have been hoping to see the "Old Barking Dog" trick play at the end of a game. But that takes nevre, anxiety, and only chance to win mentality. Seen this play about 12 years ago or so on ESPN, it was great and hysterical but not for the losing team.

I know a few little girls that would do anything to win a game, run in front of a train, bite a snake's head off, oh yeah and do the barking dog play. But you are correct those girls are far and few between, most girls ballers think that a pump fake is stupid looking so they dont do it.
