  2. Melly Heaton was voted the 2nd Region Player of the Year. Caldwell County's coach Josh Barnett was also voted 2nd Region Coach of the Year. They are 17-7 this season while starting three freshmen, one junior, and one senior. Coach Barnett and Melly have both done a great job this season! Congratulations to each of them......
  3. I agree with everything that yall are saying. Emily Queen and Rebecca Gray are extremely good athletes, and I would have to say it is between them two for Miss Basketball. But Melly Heaton from Caldwell County is putting up numbers this year that should at least put her in the running for it. From what I hear and I seen in the KHSAA site, she is one of the top scorer in the state with 25.9 points a game. I've seen her play a couple of times and I have never seen a girl with more offensive skills then her. I know that she probably wont get it because there are some great player in the state and I am not taking nothing from them, I just think a girl from the western part of the state that is dominating around there should get her name mentioned when they start talking about the greatest player in the state.
  4. I can't wait to see how Caldwell's Melly Heaton and Henderson's Renisha Soaper match up Friday night. I would expect that they are, along with a girl from Union County, the front runners for 2nd Region player of the year. Catspause ranked 8 girls higher than Heaton pre-season and she has already dismantled 3 or 4 of them and proven that she was ranked way to low. I think she's taking it personally although my friends from Caldwell say she could care less about rankings. So since Heaton does all of her talking with the ball in her hand and her mouth closed, I'll start promoting this kid. I've seen her play several times and on her average nights, she is better than most. On her great nights, she is THE BEST I've seen. Period, and I've been involved with girls HSBB for years. Her all around game: hustle, defense, ball handling, distributing the ball, and (of course) scoring, like I said is THE BEST package guard I've seen. Soaper was Catspause's pre-season #1 and she is a wonderful player (I watched her play against E-town last year), but if the past is a prediction of the future, she better lace'em up tight Friday night cause Heaton can straight up ball. I hope Heaton's young teammates come to play because Henderson, as always, is a great team.
  5. I agree. Everyone knows that R. Gray has already won the award (it just isn't given out until April) and she has had a super stellar career. Everyone also knows that the Miss/Mr. Basketball award is as political as the Presidential elections too. People start promoting their guy/girl the day they put on a varsity jersey and they are almost always from a school near one of the larger cities in the state. Lets be honest about it, it wouldn't change the Miss Basketball winner if someone from a small school statistically destroyed Rebecca Gray this season. I'm just putting someone's name in the race who unfortunately isn't from a big winning program, who is ridiculously underated because her team has struggled the last several years due to youth, and who toe-2-toe so far has statistically whooped up on five highly ranked players this year. I don't expect her to win but she shouldn't be overlooked based on how many points she has had in her career and how many state championships she has won. Because about 90% of the teams in the state don't ever have that much talent at hand and it is supposed to be a personal achievement award. What do you think is tougher, leading a team of young kids that miss lay-ups under the basket to a 15w/15l season or having a wealth of talent and depth and contributing 20 points a game. It is a shame that very talented kids like Heaton have to play way above the others to even get a mention. Fortunately for her, recruiters don't just read media guides to find their ballers. I hear from good sources that she is receiving attention from a couple D-1 programs. That is extremely impressive considering she has never played summer ball, never been on a state championship caliber team, and only attended 1 or 2 individual basketball camps in her life. She was busy winning softball tourneys all over the map in the summers.
  6. Not so fast. This game was neck and neck other than the 1st quarter which is about the only time Hope or most of their starting five were rotated out for any real amount of time. By the way, thirty is a respectable loss at North Hardin this year, especially when you look at them playing 10-12 players and pressing practically the entire game against a team that has six players with one doing most the work. She was bringing the ball up the floor against the press, setting up the offense, constantly moving to get an open look, and then hitting six 3's while being the only person the entire defense knew they had to stop. Lets not forget, this kid missed 6 of 8 free throws and still scored 27 points. And by the way, I know Hope is a great player. I'm just making sure people open their eyes about Heaton too.
  7. Scott County's stud. She signed with N.C. as a sophomore. She has definitely had a great career at a great program. I think girls like Heaton are held back and passed over because they don't have tons of help around them year after year. But it should be looked at stat vs. stat, year by year, with many considerations about schedule, teammates, etc.
  8. I don't have a clue. I here she has a bunch of softball scholarships available as well. But have no clue where.
  9. Melly Heaton from Caldwell County should be in the running
  10. The 5'6 guard from Caldwell County (Melly Heaton) has to be in the running for Miss Basketball. She is averging 25 points a game with basically a freshman team. She is getting everybodys best defenders and sometimes they are doubling up on her and she is still scoring 30 a game. I heard last night she played one of the best players in the state (Hope Brown) and had 27 points on her and made her look like a very average player. She should be no doubt the 2nd region MVP, and I think people need to start looking at this Melly Heaton from Caldwell for Miss Basketball in Kentucky.
