  1. These games are no win situations for the better team. If your team is awful, then do not schedule teams who will beat you this badly. I wasn't there and don't know anyone who was, so it is impossible for me to judge how bad it really was. As for not taking layups, etc...at what point does Beth Haven start rotating at least one or maybe even two players back to see that those breakaways don't happen? The younger kids work hard in practice everyday and it is not fair to tell them to play but try not to score. Scheduling is a coach's responsibility. I am sure these coaches knew this outcome could occur when the game was scheduled. The losing coach should get just as much heat as the winning one.
  2. Two teams that come to mind from recent seasons are the West Carter state champion girls and the Rose Hill boys team. I would dare say that Mayo and Walker were more impressive and highly touted than Emily and Laura. I'm not taking anything away from those young ladies, but there have been some really, really good teams from the 16th region. And there have been several sets of teammates named to the Kentucky all star team. They will assuredly both be on the team but it will not be unprecedented by any means.
  3. I agree about it all being personal opinion. And none of our opinions really matter because coaches select Miss Basketball and I doubt that every voter has seen every one of the top candidates. That is not their fault as they must worry about their own team first. I will pitch my support to Hope Brown. She had a triple double in last night's win at Doss with 20 pts, 10 reb and 12 assists. She is averaging 21 pts, 6 reb and 6 assts per game. I like Queen and the way she plays. I think Gray has an advantage because of who she plays for and who she has signed with. Sometimes that early season lead is hard to overcome.
  4. I would like to see the 79 Lafayette team and the Fairdale teams from 90 and 91 get shots at Bingo Long and the West Virginia Traveling All Stars.
  5. I have seen quite a few games this season and I share Fletch's opinion. (I haven't seen Scott County play). There are some very, very good players across the state. but Brown is the best senior player in any game I have watched.
  6. I am not sure which is tougher. But I do know that if Hope played on a team with less talent than the one she has now, her numbers would look different. She would average more than 20 points per game without question. Does that make her, or Heaton, any better of a player? No. Heaton does have D-1talent. Hope has a D-1 scholarship, signed and delivered. I wish Caldwell all the luck for the rest of the season. I would love to see them make a run in the postseason. And I hope Heaton ends up with a scholarship, in whichever sport, that allows her to get an education at a good university.
  7. They can't play it as often as the UT band did in the UK-UT football game 2-3 years ago. It seemed like I heard it at least 270 times. It was in my head for weeks!!!!
  8. She is a great player and I hope to see great things from her at the next level as well.
  9. I believe the award is Gray's to lose and she has done absolutely nothing to do so. She is a great player on a great team and has been for several years. She deserves the attention she receives. As for the Caldwell-North game, boatman, you stated Heaton made Brown look average. I was simply correcting your view. She did have 27 points and she played 32 minutes. Hope played 20 or so. I would expect her to outscore someone who played 10-12 fewer minutes. Hope is a great player and she does what her team needs her to do. She is not out there to outscore the opposing players. She is there to defend, run the offense and make her teammates better. She does that as well as any player in the state. Talk up your players and they deserve it but don't do it at the expense of some other young athlete.
  10. She is a very solid player but to say she made Hope Brown look average is mistaken. She scored 27 points for a team that got beat by 30 and she got a lot of those with Brown on the bench after the game was sealed. Also, there may have been 2 or 3 possessions when Brown was guarding Heaton. She had a very good night but she did very little, if any, of it against Brown. Does she have any schools after her for basketball? If not, there should be a school somewhere that can use a smart player who has a nice shot.
