Coach Donnelly has a good book that talks about Georgetown and leaving briefly. Brush brought a WCO in when Georgetown had been a Red Faught run and shoot team. When Cronin was hired he brought back Red’s offense.

One thing that’s lost in this is he doesn’t play in a spread every down system. That is not a knock in any way shape or form. It just shows 1) the offense you run in HS doesn’t have to look like Saturdays or Sundays. 2) you can put what’s best for the program first and still succeed. 3) if you’re good and have the skill set people will notice. Congratulations to him, Coach Jaggers, the program and the community.

Which two teams played at Kroger at the end of the year?

It’s possible to see an impact for the next year or so (possibly a little longer) due to underclassmen or MS players taking the extra year. Since taking the extra year allowed students to still play instead of sitting a year.

I’ve never heard the coach say that. Someone who might be admin tweeted that. Considering they won’t say or spell Scott Co I think the team is ok with not saying the school’s full name.

Was it OPI or DPI?

Jaggers, Hilton and I’m pretty sure Ray Graham all have been rehired by schools they were previously the HC at. I’m sure there are more. So this isn’t setting any precedent. It looks like the process here was well on its way for awhile. Good luck to Coach Lucas and SK.

FD and Great Crossings are both close to 6A. Scott Co will still be 5A. Grant Co should be 4A. MoCo is sitting at about 650 male students and there enrollment on the lower levels is trending down.

Correct, though in the past they would review after year 2 (in the middle of the cycle) and adjust if there we’re schools out of place. That did not happen during this cycle for some reason.

Covid and being in that district make the last two years really tough. Coach Egli is one heck of a coach. I’m sure if he wants to coach he won’t have a problem finding a new home.

You are correct. The sad thing is there are a number of teams that should of moved after two years that got put in some bad spots. There are districts in football where when you look at enrollment there are teams from three different classifications. Example there are some 5A districts with teams that should be in 4A, 5A and pretty close to 6A all in the same district.

My understanding is during a 4 year cycle the KHSAA reviews enrollment numbers two years in. In the spring they supposedly look at the numbers and didn’t make any adjustments. So either they looked at the numbers and thought everything was fine (which even using the numbers at that time there were issues) or they never really looked at the numbers.

This is kind of off topic but I’m not sure if anyone knows the answer. Last season did the KHSAA look at enrollment numbers and decide everyone was fine where they are at or did they not even look at the numbers?

Had something like this happen this year. Was ruled the team didn’t make the yard to gain but the only thing that really moved was the box. Crews tend to prefer the field turf fields because (this is what was told to me) it’s easier for them to see if they need to measure or not. It’s easier visually which makes sense.

I wonder if it’s not as common in NKY (or other parts of the state) in part due to childcare. This is just a thought that I came to while reading. What I mean is maybe in other parts of the state it is more common to start a child a little later than to have them repeat. If families can afford or manage it they would just start their child a year later so they would be on the older end. In places like eastern KY childcare is a little more difficult due to geographic make up alone and not even taking financial factors into account. So some places and people are doing things the same they are just going about them in a slightly different manner. Maybe around 10 years ago on the MS level I saw a trend in some areas of the opposite. People were enrolling their children as soon as they could due to the cost of childcare. So you saw MS students who would enter their SR in HS at 16 and would turn 17 sometimes as late as October.

I’m pretty sure LCA did. Now you might be referring to just NKY privates or Catholic private schools. I could be wrong because it’s not something I’ve been tracking. I believe Douglas has one underclassman that did. Again I’m not 100% on that and I’m not referring to Douglas as a private school. I just wanted to state that to clear up any confusion. I feel like part of the issue people have is they feel it should of been everyone (all schools allow it) or none of them. Since it was up to each district it became a bit of a mess. You could say the same thing about holding back kids in general. Some districts don’t have an issue and others will refuse. Most of the attention is on the 5th year seniors. If teams had underclassmen take advantage of the opportunity then this decision could have lasting effects for a few seasons.

It has to do with the interaction. I don’t know if by forum rule I can give the exact quote but this is paraphrased. “I can’t define it but I know it when I see it” If one has never seen “wrong ball” or “this isn’t our ball” then I can understand. Now that example is extreme. In the old Peyton Manning example he is yelling at the sideline and the sideline is yelling back. Both are acting like their is confusion or an issue. In today’s Fed football games you can’t do things like that. In the Kurt Warner example he just walks away from the LOS acting mad. Unsnapped his chin trap in true Warner fashion and they snap the ball. Like I mentioned before I haven’t seen the clip but the sideline cannot take part in the deception by acting.

I didn’t look at the play. If the coach or sideline is yelling back at the QB you’ll get flagged. If the QB is just making gestures toward the sideline you won’t get flagged. Some time in the past 10 years they adjusted/clarified the rule. Things like “this isn’t our ball” and the like we determined to be illegal. It basically comes down to now you can’t involve the sideline and/or the sideline cannot be part of the deception. So the old Peyton Manning is illegal but the old Kurt Warner act is still ok.

It might be a Covid thing. I know on occasion they haven’t had room in the press box for people so other arrangements had to be made.

There is a shortage as others has said. NKY has borrowed officials from the Lexington and Louisville regions. Many of these guys do college games too which sometimes requires travel. It currently looks like the situation is only going to get worse.

Unfortunately you can’t appeal an injection as it’s a judgment call. The only appeal for an injection is if they ejected the wrong player. That is my understanding of how it works.
