  1. If only AvidTiger could suit up and play, and put the head sets on and coach, the Tigers might stand a chance to improve enough to make a run in the playoffs.........but alas he can only point out the failings of players and coaches from the distance and obscurity of anonymity.
  2. The KHSAA has granted both golfers a waiver for the state tournament in the event that their teams do not qualify. They won't need a waiver if their team qualifies at the regional. See link: http://www.khsaa.org/news/news.pdf
  3. He can still be in the line-up at state if St. X makes it out of the regional. Same is true for Emmma Talley from Caldwell County. 2 players from Kentucky on Jr. Ryder Cup!!!
  4. Male has now won three in a row with 4th quarter comebacks. They might not beat J-town, but don't count them out. Pillischafske's defense was part of what limited Sewell last night. Male is a very physical team!!!
  5. If a pass or run ends out of bounds, start the clock after the ball is marked ready for play (like after the chains move) except for the final two minutes of the 2nd and 4th quarters. In those cases the clock would start on the snap.
  6. I get that......but, it seems that getting the ball into the hands of Wall or Bledsoe as quickly as possible is not a bad thing either. I know that Harris made at least one turnover late because he had no option to throw to after UL set up their press. Wall (doubleteam) and Bledsoe were both denied and he threw it away at midcourt.
  7. Why does Ramon Harris consistently toss the ball to the official after a made free throw or basket (sometimes) by the opposition? As it did yesterday, it allows the opponent to set up the press much more effectively. Watch for this the next time someone presses the cats. Other than that, his play overall has been much improved as he seems to really understand his role with Coach Cal's system.
  8. Some of the better teams from out in the state really did not want to play anymore because of the way games are counted in the KHSAA rules. They can play in a tournament where they are guaranteed four games and only count as one or travel to the LIT for a one game guarantee. My personal opinion is that this tournament quality is much improved over the field in the past several LITs.
  9. The officials had the option of running the entire heat over if they believed the interference occurred or they could have had those who were affected by the interference run the heat again. There were two choices once the runner from PT was disqualified. I believe that the incorrect choice was made as the Central runner clearly won the heat and was not involved in the interference. NFHS Rule 4-5-5
  10. The 2nd race was more unfair for the Central kid than the first race was for any of the runners in that heat. As to scheduling the events: The meet is scheduled and runners placed according to the published schedule. Had the 300 hurdles been scheduled after the 4x400, I can accept the statement that the coach should not run the athlete in both races with no recovery time. As originally scheduled, he ran his kids to potentially win a championship. The outcome was not fair to any of the kids who had to run the heat twice.
  11. Some of the posters on this thread do not represent the same spirit that was presented in this piece. Most of you do have your passions and priorities in line as is exemplified in the program. Congrats to both schools for the work they do in molding young men - as do the schools and coaches at many other places around the state. To paraphrase Booker T. Washington: "There are two ways of exerting one's strength. One is tearing down, the other is building up." Seems to me that tearing down is dangerous. Its pretty easy to get caught in the rubble.
  12. Awesome production! The NFL people certainly lived up to their reputation. great footage of the game. What a tremendous tribute to the guys this year and also to the tradition of the game for all of the years in the past. The guys from both schools who were gathered in the parking lot to share a b..... er tailgate was priceless. That is part of why the event has continued to prosper year after year. Most of the guys who actually play in the game are able to compete with great intensity on the field and continue their rivalry and friendships for long after they've hung up the pads.
  13. I actually believe that the game could have been played next week prior to the playoffs beginning. Since these teams couldn't come up with a date to make up the game, they could have been forced to play maybe Tuesday next week. That way all could have been settled on the field. Forfeits were not the only penalties imposed in this case according to reports I have heard.
  14. The fact that 4 teams broke 600 and the top scores were very low speaks very highly of Kentucky high school golf. Kenny Perry and JB Holmes are great examples of where some of these guys might be headed.
  15. Truth be told , I bet that X and T would not mind meeting before the finals. They would keep all of the revenue that currently goes to the KHSAA if they meet in any other round and thus be able to pump even more money into their overall athletic programs. They could charge what they want for tickets, and one of the two will probably win the title every year anyway. BTW - That is the way the playoffs worked when Louisville played a State at large winner for the title. I think there were more than twenty coaches who lobbied to change that one because it was unfair that Louisville always had a finalist.
  16. Does an out of district student in public school pay out of district tuition equal to the per pupil cost that the district uses for students in the school, or is it more, or is it less?
  17. The Yellowjackets can play! Difficult task to compete with the seasoned comp from Belfry. Could be a great match-up. I'm looking forward to seeing how the game plays out. I hear Central has been practicing at X this week to get ready for the turf at Papa John's.
  18. The great thing about both of these programs is that on Sunday morning, win or lose, all of the kids are still going to be part of something that is bigger than any of them as individuals. Something that will last through graduation and coaching changes and championships and second guessing and praise and criticism. It really won't matter when ten or fifteen years from now they get together - maybe even with some of their opponents on the other side of the line that they have known as friends and opponents - and remember what it was like in the good ole days.
  19. Last year X, T, Male and Manual were all on the same side of the bracket. X and T will be again next year.
  20. Here's an idea. Let's take the eight largest schools in Louisville for one of the finals slots. The rest of the state can play for the other. Louisville can keep all of the money for their "internal" playoffs. Oh wait we used to do it that way ...... but that means Louisville will always have a team in the Gridiron Bowl Championship game.
  21. Regional is an antiquated term that has no relevance to geography when applied to the football playoffs. These games are third round tilts that should be called quarter finals, nothing more nothing less.
  22. Pikeville can take it to the next level with a focused hard-hitting performance. Leave it all on the field Panthers.
  23. Male isn't as good as they have been, but Meade isn't good enough to take advantage. Dogs punch their ticket to the semis 38-21.
