The way the matchups goes is really messed up! For 1 thing in 4A in 1 region, the 4 best teams on average are in the same region with Bell, Rock, Boyle, and LexCath. Bell or Rock in the past has played the winner from Boyd Co, Lawrence Co., etc's district. Bell and LexCath should be playing in the semis, not in the regional final!

 

Secondly, why is Henry Clay having to play Trinity next Friday? Thats messed up. Scott Co, Madison Central, Shelby Co, etc's district will be playing the winner of Boone Co's district. That doesn't make sense. Henry Clay should play Trinity in the semis.

 

I have a hard time believing that this is done in all fairness without trying to set things up to make certain programs happy.

Correct me if Im wrong on the 3rd round matchups but how about Prestonsburg traveling to LOUISVILLE Desales for a REGIONAL championship game. Just how far away from each other are these two teams and they're playing for a regional championship.

If you look at all the teams in 4A, and how they have done for say the last 5 or 6 years, the 4 teams I have named are the best programs.

I can't believe anyone is complaining about who is playing who in the football playoffs, and in what week they have to meet, this is hilarious. :lol::lol:

 

I vote we add a couple more classes so all these powerhouse programs don't have to beat up on each other just to win a ring. Will eight classes be enough, or should we make it 10?

Well, here's the thing. When you only have 48 teams in the state playing next week and you divide them into six classes, you're going to have some traveling to do.

 

An alternative of course would be fewer classes, which puts more teams in each class, which means more schools in each area in the same class. Thus, less travel for the regional championship. Oh wait, that feels like deja vu. :sssh:

Actually it was implemented last year with a scheduling grid now needed to decipher the matchups from year to year...one of the silliest thing the KHSAA has done in recent years if you ask me.

Seems like much of the debate at the time was that if football was going to continue to grow, it wasn't being helped by the same teams beating the same teams all the time. Expose the kids, teams and fans to other parts of the state, etc. That was what was publicized anyway. In the end, how much does it matter? You have to win four games to play at Papa Johns and you have to beat the better more traditional teams somewhere along the way. Why not get out and see some of this great state? Was interesting. Doing a little research found several states that don't have static pairings. In some areas, they re-draw after certain weeks. Talk about confusing? Anyway, looks like this week's pairings are up on their web site, at least we can see who plays who on the football page of the KHSAA web site.

Silly was my opinion.

As far as the argument that this exposes kids to other teams and other parts of the state is a complete contradiction to the KHSAA argument for "staying within" during the first two rounds "due to travel expense issues".

Doesn't matter, except it destroys typical regional rivalries that have developed over the years...

Just a couple of examples...since when have Pikeville and Lexington been considered the same region or Prestonsburg and Louisville or Letcher County and Ft Thomas???

Also, just because several other states do not have a static system does not make it better...several other states also divide basketball into a class system for the state tournament...Is that better???

 

Other states also use some disjointed point system to determine who makes the playoffs...Is that better???

I know I sure would not want to see playoff teams determined by any kind of poll.

Since when have the state playoffs been designed to put the two best teams in the championship game or even to meet later in the playoffs?
