Blair Green was second on the Herald all-state team. I'd imagine she was second in this also.

That would still eliminate one district that isn't really needed if it's that easy to get to the other side of town.

I don't see how this would work. The All A began when there were only four football classes and the same enrollment numbers as football at the time were used. Since football has gone to six classes, almost all of the 2A football schools qualify for the All A Classic.

The rankings are done in the summer. The two kids were playing with Perry then. The rankings are based on performance, not because some college likes you because you're 6-10. He averaged around 6 points a game last year. That won't do it.

I don't know how many shots she took per game, but I do know from watching them play a few times that she was the only chance they had to beat average eastern Kentucky teams. I saw her as a junior and thought she was a good player on a bad team. I was amazed when I saw what she did this season against the eventual regional champion.

This is an example of a very bad trend in high school basketball due to the AAU influence on the game. If you don't measure up to a certain standard based on your college potential, you somehow are less of a player. High school awards should be based on high school accomplishments, not what your college pedigree is. Creech carrying Jenkins to the regional finals is an amazing accomplishment that very players in the history of girls high school basketball can match. The fact that a school with a tradition like Western wants her seems to make the AAU snobs even angrier and more determined to put Creech in her place.

I'm guessing Fulton would still have an elementary school in the town. What is the difference though? Schools, or the lack of them, do little or nothing to change the identity of a city. We've had that discussion in Harlan County. Evarts is still Evarts and Cumberland is still Cumberland eight years after the high schools closed. It's kind of a chicken and egg debate, I guess, but if you're town is so small that it only has 90 kids in high school then there isn't much left to save, and keeping a school open that has only a handful of teachers and classes probably isn't helping.

I've heard that one before. Keeping a school open doesn't make a city any more relevant if all the people/businesses are gone. Fulton will be Fulton with or without a school, just like dozens of other cities across the state. Monticello didn't disappear because the school closed a couple of years ago.

How many jobs are you protecting with 90 students? Any merger I've seen, the teachers for both districts continue to be employed.

What are the enrollments now - about 100 and 150? How much could there be to control? It seems like a huge waste to have two schools in such a small county, and it's not like there is a record of great academic or athletic success of late.

Why are there still two schools in Fulton County?

Is this list supposed to be about who has the best BCS potential? I thought it was for what was accomplished in the 2015-2016 season. If so, Creech is no lower than second. Perhaps the other 10 will be better college players. That remains to be seen. They weren't better high school players in 2016.

I thought Boley, being the top-ranked player in the nation, was deserving of Miss Basketball, but Creech had to be right behind with her amazing accomplishments. I don't think most of you realize how amazing it is that Creech could lead a school like Jenkins to within one game of the state tournament. Jenkins has about 150 students and had six high school girls on the team. I don't think any player could have done what Creech did this year at Jenkins. I saw Jenkins play Leslie County (the eventual region champ) at Leslie and Leslie double teamed her the length of the court the entire game and she still finished with 48 points and led Jenkins to a win. I've watched girls basketball since 1974-75 and have never seen anything so impressive from one player in one game.

You can't just start in the middle of a realignment or it won't work. I spent some time trying to work on one, then got busy. I had a couple of trouble spots I didn't get to fix before I moved on to something else.

I think I saw KC at least five times this summer. They played a couple of days at Pineville and two games at Harlan County. I thought they played pretty well, especially after losing five or six seniors. What players quit? I noticed Marsee wasn't with them at Pineville.

No, I'm trying to get the geography right for just Jefferson teams in the 6th and 7th, so Bullitt can help fill holes in the 5th. There are enough teams in Jefferson to fill those two regions.

I'm playing around with basketball/baseball realignments, and I'm not that familiar with Jefferson County school geography. For someone familiar with the area, how could you realign the districts in Region 6 and Region 7 to have at least four teams in each (taking into consideration the all-boys and all-girls schools) while taking out the three Bulllitt County schools.

The KHSAA said during the last realignment that three-team districts would be eliminated. Now, they seem to have decided they aren't a big deal. I agree with some others though, it's not fair and could be fixed. Every region should have at least 16 teams, and there are enough teams in the state to have an average of 17 per region.

I've been saying that for a while that 3 through 8 are real close, a step below Clay and Knox.

Garrett Gregory graduated in 1983 and went on to a great career at Cumberland College. Cumberland High School lost in the first round of the district tourney that year to Evarts and Billy Hicks. Middlesboro beat Cawood in overtime that year in the regional finals. I think Cawood was the favorite that year in the district, not Cumberland. Evarts actually won the district with big wins over Cumberland and Cawood. Cumberland's best team was probably 1985. They lost in the regional finals in the last seconds to Clay, which ended up being the state runner up.
