2A 300 Hurdles Video

Both runners tripped and went down ... the Tilghman kid didn't interfere with the runner next to him.

No do-over should have occurred. Both went down and there was no interference that I could see.

Sometimes folks just fall down.

I concur. I didn't see anything that would lead me to believe they should have run the race again.

No-do over needed. What's the story with this? I heard that some kid had to run the same race twice....what happened?

Should not have been run over ! No fouls occured .

So does this mean that Central is the actual 2A state Champs?

So did the judges think that the two boys that fell somehow hampered others?

It looks like that is the consensus if the race would not have been run over . Only we don't count only the officials that were at the meet do .

Looking at the race video again the kid that fell in lane 4 ended up in lane 3 the lane that the CovCath runner was in so I guess you could say that the CovCath runner was interfered with but no matter what happened no one was going to beat the kid in lane 8 who I assume was the Central kid .

Actually, the Paducah Tilghman kid (lane 4) may have actually been in the lead at the time. Both he and the kid in lane 3 went down, but it was of their own accord, not because there was any interference.

I think the 2A State Championship should go to Central. Yes, it is hard for me to believe that these officials could mess this up. These officials not only are high school, but college officials. My heart goes out to the Central kid that should be the State Champion in the 300 Hurdles. Nevertheless, he falls on the 5th hurdle the second time...finishing dead last. Because the officials gave him 15 mintues to rest after running the last leg of the 4x4.

What bothers me the most...is that the KHSAA top guns were at the race and negleted to protect the kid. Any top official knows you can not recover from running a 400 in 15 mintues. Why did they not protect and help this kid?

Yet runners compete in relays and sprints and go directly to compete in field events with less than 15 minutes to recover. It's part of competing at a track meet. The officials are right there. On the track. At every hurdle row. If there was a foul, they would have called it.

Again, the coach should have pulled him from the 4x4 and the outcome may have been different. Coaching error irregardless of what the officials decided at the time. It may not have been the right decision by the officials but the coach needed to adjust to give his runner the best possible chance.
