But they are still South's biggest rival and South's overall record vs. Oldham was very weak so it was a big improvement. South had only beaten that same senior bunch on the JV level (two years ago) by one point or something like that so the kids at South worked their butts off to get better so they could beat their rival by 50 points.

I can't speak for Grant Co. but I feel that South Oldham will be pretty strong next year. South lost many good players last year but the current players had a good weight room training, spring practice and 7 on 7. South will be smaller but quicker next year. South is now got some of the best facilities for public schools (sportsturf, large weight room (with turf being installed), large locker room (can be used for agilities (it also has turf carpet). I will leave naming key players to someone else but I will say that South has some really good one's caming back this year that played a major part of the big victory over Oldham Co. and close game vs. Highlands, etc.

Not in Jefferson County where there is no middle school football. Many 8th graders play on the freshmen teams.

I know that South Oldham is in the process (should be ready July 22nd)of putting it down. We are hosting a bowl game (triple header) on the first weekend of play. How many other schools have the multiple playing surface. I know of some but please feel free to add to the list. If nothing else this is a sign that schools, booster clubs, and communities are taking high school sports more serioiusly and improving the game of football. PENDLETON CO. is NOT coming back into the district even though it is not listed like that on the KHSAA website. They are rumored to sit out the next 2 year cycle also. Although I don't know this for fact. I wish they would have joined because I would make scheduling much easier for teams in the district.

I have been on both ends of the spectrum. Remember I think it was Lou Holtz said, "The have the option of stopping us."

If you are the team getting beat then run the ball and then run the ball more. If you wait until the play clock is down to 1 then you will be able to eat some some major time.

This is stupid. I have been in games where we were winning by 36 with 5 mins. left and the other coach kept passing. We intercepted the ball twice for TD's. Now 36-0 is not running up the score. But because their coach wanted to score so badly he had his player keep throwing the ball which lead to many interceptions and defensive TD's--not our fault.

As a Football coach who has coached middle school basketball and played college baseball I tell our kids PLAY EVERYTHING that you are good at and can help the team. I have seen a kid quit basketball (because football was too dangerous) and then tear an ACL during AAU. I think that your son could continue to shoot and work on ball skills on Saturday's and Sunday's in the fall. If your son is that good his basketball coach will play him or he does not care about the kids or winning basketball games. Our basketball coach is very great to work with. In fact we talk daily and have worked out a summer schedule so that the dual sport athletes get to work on skills for both sports as well as weight lift. The same goes for our wrestling and baseball coach.:thumb:

NO, you are thinking of Beno Chappell. He is currently at South Oldham. He is the Offensive Line and Strength Coach. He is doing a great job at both. The new coach at South Laurel is Jason Chappell (no relation I don't think). Jason has coached at Madison Central, Tates Creek and most recently was the head coach at Perry Co. Central.

Thanks, #72 was Taylor Scherer. He is going to Wittenberg in Ohio to play football. He had many offers to wrestle as well (he is a great athlete) He was a great academic kid and a very hard worker. I predict he will be successful at the D3 level and enjoy playing football while getting an GOOD education. Although we did lose many great players we have 5 starters returning(full time or guys who shared a starting spot last year) on both sides of the ball. This is 5 guys who only play one way. We should have 80 or more kids on the team this year. We will be much faster and just as strong (but smaller in physical size). LB 6'2 215 Joe Gamsky (our Def. MVP), RB Seth Gordon (had over 1800 yards of total offense and 10 TD's last year), Lincoln Carr (had 6 td's in 5 games last year before being hurt) OL Cody Lasseigne and DL Jacob Kern all had great seasons last year. We are working very hard in the weight room and excited about this upcoming season.

Numbers are very important. Now I do agree that there must be quality in the numbers. Coach J's point are all correct. Two years ago South Oldham had 55 players (9-12) and trailed Highlands by 7 at halftime only to lose by more than I care to say. One of the main reasons for the big margin in the second half was fresh legs (South had 9 kids who HAD to go both ways and play most special teams). But last year South Oldham had 73 players (9-12) and 2 platooned (even when Lincoln Carr South's fastest player was in a sling on the sideline). Highlands still won but only by 1 point with a blocked PAT at the end of the game. Numbers do help (in this case it helped close the gap). With that said Highlands was well coached, played hard & deserved the victory.

BUTLER Has to play St.X, Manual, Male, and PRP in a 5 week span. That has to be one of the most difficult run of games.

Some of the better performances by South Oldham players: Justin Wakefield who plays OLB ran 4.09 in the shuttle (I think it was one of the fastest times in the shuttle).

The Matthews kid from Shelby Co. is going to be pretty good. He has been starting since his freshmen year. He will be a Junior this year.

I can tell you first hand that Coach R and his staff (don't forget his asst.) have great football minds. You can not blame a man for looking to improve his financial situation (if he actually did apply at a big OHIO school the money would be more). I want to ask those who are posting against him. 1.-Who did he get beat by this year in the playoffs and what was the score? 2.-Who would not go to another company in the same line of work if it meant you get a raise and better resources to work with? (that is if he was applying at big football program in OHIO). KY lost a coach to GA and ALA (for the same reason). 3.-Trinity's head coach interviewed at another school before deciding to not move and I really did not hear a backlash against him. 4.-Look at the teams they lost to last year: Moeller, Cinn. St X, Watterson, Highlands, Lex Catholic (all great football programs) 5.-Cov. Cath will be a great team next year. Let the man coach without bad mouthing him.

NONE---Nor should parents be in the mix. I have heard of a parent telling a coach "I hired you and I can get you fired" (this was not in football).

South Oldham is going to the Turf (same company that installed Henry Clay's). It is a positive thing. More games on better turf. We will play 7 games on turf this year. Possibly more with the playoffs. I think it is a good thing for all of our sports. (including boys soccer, girls soccer, field hockey, middle school football, lacrosse, band, and even baseball (on wet practice day they can take infield on the turf without destroying their field). It also gives the community something to be proud of.

Any list needs to include Jordan Kramer (Ft. Thomas). Great speed and leg drive when running straight. Very effect in their offense and special teams. Another Running Back that needs to be put on the top list is South Oldham's Seth Gordon. He had 1800 total yards last year despite only getting 11 carries per game (shared the backfield with his older brother). He is very fast, great handsn, great hips. He is also a good DB.
