I like the idea of NCC v Scott as a substitute game if they both share the same bye week. Both lost games to the weekend weather and this would be a good matchup. However, that bye week usually comes around at just about the right time to give aching bodies an extra week to heal.

This is a little hard to read with boys and girls combined. If you have the CRU at #2 on the boys side, I think that's too high. Also I would venture to say Cooper and Boone would be in the top ten, certainly ahead of Dixie and Villa. I would not venture a guess at the girls but I don't see any glaring errors or omissions in the coaches' poll. I might move Scott to #3 but so much depends on one player.

Almost hate to agree with Bosshog, but I think the viewing from above makes Tower Park a very nice place to watch a match. The parking and walking the hill is tough for older patrons, I agree. Dixie is obviously very nice as well but if you want a nice elevated view, you end up pretty far from the playing surface. Boone, Conner and Ryle (without the play by play) are nice as well. I do find Ryle's lining a little confusing also. CovCath and ND have very nice fields but a little too close to field level for my taste. St. Henry also has a very nice venue to watch a soccer game. All of their facilities are very accommodating. NCC and Brossart just don't have facilities to match the public schools. How much does NCC charge and are you paying to see a field or match?

Thank you! Those 3 matches appear to pit consistently strong programs against each other. I am curious about the Cooper v. Dixie matchup. There seems to be a few Cooper believers here. What kind of team would Dixie have?

I agree, while a football state championship means you're the best in your class of about 32-35 teams, winning the basketball All-A state tournament means you're the best basketball team amount the smallest 125 teams in the state. I think this is much more difficult to earn.

I'd still disagree with this statement, but I guess time will tell. NDA certainly has more of that type of talent than any other school.

Although Gray and Camp Ernst compete consistently with the parochial grade schools, you're ignoring an important factor. The Gray middle school team is basically Ryle's team 3-5 years from now and Camp Ernst represents what will be Cooper's team in a couple years. NDA is comprised with the best players from 2 - 4 parochial grade schools. By virtue of the parochial feeder program, NDA has 3 - 6 setters in each grade playing ball, 6-10 OH and middle blockers and will benefit from a broader base of developing talent. So, in other words, NDA has 30 - 40 middle school athletes in each grade playing volleyball while Ryle has already culled their talent base to 10 - 12 players.

All 4 are solid frosh but "definitely the top 4 in the area" is a stretch. Other freshman from that same club will see significant varsity playing time and are just as strong. Although the roster is young, they're still "definitely" the team to beat. They're still likely a pretty big step ahead of Ryle and St. Henry.

A grade school league would be somewhat helpful but the key is club ball, especially high level club ball. Although Campbell County has won the last two regional tournaments, their success came only after NCC left an otherwise weak region. Prior to that, NCC had won 8 or nine in a row.

Actually, the junior and sophomore classes both have talented classes "by 2a standards" and I expect the success to continue well past this season and next.

I would think the losses to Holy Cross 51 - 12 (HC only win of the season), Newport 40 - 0, to NCC 41 - 0 and Gallatin 49 - 14 were all running clock games. It's going to take much more than just a coach. They need a school community "buy-in" and maybe that can happen when they go back to 1A.

Except the Louisville regions. Other than that, I agree.

I can't believe we're 60 posts in and no mention of Bellevue / Dayton. This has to be one of the deepest rooted rivalries in the state.

Not that NCC couldn't get beat, but even considering the brackets, NCC is still #1 and it could be by a considerable margin.

Just keep trying. I think NCC might be better than 3rd in the region.

Scott County is on an impressive roll right now. I wonder if they might deserve the top spot. I'm not sure that I would have Hopkinsville ahead of NCC at this point. They have top 25 wins over Lafayette and Etown while NCC has top 25 wins over Trinity, Knott County Central, PRP, Holmes and Cordia. Hoptown beat Lafayette who beat NCC. NCC beat Ft. Myers Florida who beat Hopkinsville. I wish CovCath had a better "in state" schedule so you could get a better feel for where they fit.

How tall was Ben Coffman who played at Boone in early 80's? Maybe 6'8"
