Nothing against Russell's facilities, but this one is a no brainer IMO. During all of my years of playing and coaching I never once said or heard a player say they wanted to play at a stadium because they have a nice locker room. It's the atmosphere between the two sides that makes a stadium special.

I look for this game to be close for most of the game but I believe the Cats will pull away later in the game. Ashland will just have too many horses for Raceland to keep up. Ashland 28-14

Improvement will come with this team as time passes. Scrimmages are good to gauge what you've got on the field and off, so in one respect the injuries are allowing others to gain some good experience. But it is good to see the Cats play a lot better. :thumb:

I have heard from some players that part of Ashland's line problems are due to injuries and 2 or 3 key starters will be out for a couple of weeks.

Nobody's talking. Must mean they've got something up their sleeve for this coming season.

I believe it is Tomcat tradition. With those titles in the 20's and 30's Ashland has a title in every other decade as well with the exception of a few. Not many programs in the state can make a claim like that. Yes, the last title was in 1990, but Ashland has been very competitive over that time frame as well, just a game or two short of playing for the state title several times. Some people on these forums keeps talking about how Ashland people keep bringing up the past, but it's always the outsiders that talk of how Ashland's program is down and it has not carried the NEKY flag ( as one BGP'er referred to Ashland not doing enough of). I believe the program has done as well as any around.

I do believe envy was the correct word. We all hear how Russell has dominated this series, while winning 4 of the last 7 and 20 of the 50 of the games played between these two schools. These numbers suggest to me that Ashland is helping to carry that NEKY flag as well as anybody in this area.

Well there is something there to lean on.

Well it's obvious to see that some teams around NEKY have one good season and now they are the only program around that knows how to win.

I agree with your post completely. It reflects our opinions of Ashland's stadium.

As some refs have noted in these forums before, their 'sneaking a peak at the other ref' is not from confusion of the call but to let the other know so that they both can signal the call at the same time. And under the post is the perfect postition to make the call.

This sounds like a good idea at first, but after further consideration I don't think it would work very well. In order to make the goal posts higher there would be a considerable amount of pvc with nothing inside and I know that pvc is quite a bit more flexible than steel and I can just imagine what would happen to it if it were hit by a football at the top from 30 to 40 yards away. I would be inclined to think it would bend excessively or break, not to mention how it would be affected by the weather conditions (wind).
