I hope you are right, GB. Davis exploded onto the scene last year with some good power running late in the year, it would be good to see an entire season of that with some experienced linemen of whom in the first of the year received more criticism than applause. Let's hope they redeem themselves and Ashland has a good year at running the ball. The passing game last year was excellent, but with the loss of our soul, Hollbrook, next years team needs to move on. And maybe the running game is it. Only if Ian could come back for one more year would my fantasy come true.

I'm a little confused with your statements here. On one hand you say Flynn is a great coach, which I believe he is, and then it seems you say he's not. So which is it?

And unfortunately for those kids that are lifting those weights, their accomplishments are doubted. If you would see the high school kid in question of lifting 600 lbs.( I believe last years program lists him at 6'2, 310#)then you might reconsider your thoughts.

As I said in posts about this subject months ago, you will always miss the very good ones lost to graduation, but the maturation of the younger players always provides a few surprises come August.

Why do you question the veracity of an old man with flowing gray whiskers? I have very reliable sources. Gone fishing (again), Graybeard Forgive me ole wise one. My intentions were not of doubt but of surprise of the efforts of the young ones.

I agree with this, but as far as Ashland is concerned I have heard the coaching staff watches these kids closely to see that they are done safely and effectively.( squats must be parallel to the ground)

If you can walk off that field at the end of the game or at the end of the season knowing that you did all that you could possibly do, then there should be no dissappointment in your reflections. From what I've heard about these players getting ready for next year is that they are working hard in the weightroom but their cardio exercise is a lot lacking, and speed and endurance is as important as strength.

Yes you are right. There will be a runnerup. But in my way of thinking, runnerup, 3rd or 4th place in the region is just another name for LOSER .

Predictions right now are a little to premature IMO. But if I had to pick an order of finish for the region it would have to be: Rockcastle ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

This time of the year predictions are sometimes a little fuzzy to make. With work still going on in the weightroom and younger players with something to prove sometimes can make a person forget even the best graduating players. High School kids are different, every year a few unexpected kids will step up big during the offseason to show off their talents come Friday nights. Ashland did lose some great players this past season but they do have a very good nucleus coming back in all areas of the game. I truly believe if some of the lesser known Seniors steps it up (leadership) like they are capable of doing, then the sky's the limit for this coming years team. I don't think that the district or region championships are out of question, but right now there are too many questions to be answered about this team to pencil them in as the favorite. But I do like there chances.

The signing of all of the best in state players is a must for a state school wanting to play with all of the big boys year in and year out.

Let's all not keep blinders on. It is a great accomplishment to win the region, but how many state championships have been won by these teams in the last 5 years or the last 10 or 15. The accomplishments of a program over the long haul will determine who is the cream of the crop in this old timers mind.
