Either this one has gone long or the Tomcats didn't look too good. If it were otherwise, I'd have expected GIAT, et al to be giving us the highlights by now...

Well first off the Tomcats looked about 100x better this week! The Tomcats were still missing O-Line startes Lacey Snodgrass and Michael Walters, hopefully they will be ready next week. Darryll Mahan played all but one drive with the 1st team, and he looke really good. He put 2 passes right on the money to McDavid, and had a couple of nice scrambles, lowering his shoulder inside the 5. Ironton scored a couple of TD's on Ashland 2 team D, but overall I think the 1st string's for both teams tied 7-7. Overall a MUCH improved Tomcat team!!!!!

Ashland was not physical enough to play with Ironton on the ground. Ashland has big play again this year. Ashland has the kids , lot's of coaches and many skilled players. If Ashland can get better on the ground on both sides of the ball they can develope into a good team. #40 for Ashland stood toe to toe with the Tigers but he was about it, that surprised me ... Ironton only had around 34 kids dressed. Their lines were quick , strong and would hit you. I was impressed by Ironton lines and tight end. I truly believe Ashland had equal or better skill players ... Just not as hardnosed as Ironton ... But who is , to be the man you have to beat the man and the Tigers live and die with this ... Improvement will come with this team as time passes. Scrimmages are good to gauge what you've got on the field and off, so in one respect the injuries are allowing others to gain some good experience. But it is good to see the Cats play a lot better. :thumb:

Does anybody know how long Michael Walters may be out? I have heard that he has been diagnosed with protruding disc's in his back. The Cats can't afford to be without their best lineman for long.

?? I dont know ?? But that doesnt sound good. I think Snodgrass could have played tonight, but no sense rushing him out there for a scrimmage.

Josh Cordle did have a really nice run of about 40 yards, and Daniel McDavid had a GREAT block near the end of the game. Blake McCloud also ran really well tonight.

Ashland looked like a different team from the last scrimmage. They showed signs of being a very good football team. The QB did a nice job and I thought the o-line was much better. Their center and left Guard opened some nice holes. I don't know the players or their numbers but they did a nice job. Ironton was a little flat at times but got better as the game progressed. Their tight end was a beast. Ashland's kicker also looked like the real deal.Good luck to the Tomcats, except for the opener.

Was there really a 3.00 charge to get into a scrimmage game.

I was reading on a small but really good site site that most of the Tiger fans post on these days and this stuck out in one of the post,

Must be a trend. We paid three bucks each to get into the scrimmage game at Hazard this week. I thought it was way over the top.

Ironton did get better as the scrimmage went on but made alot of mistakes that you are not used to Ironton making. I think they are a very different looking team without Lutz at the Helm, not quite the machine that I was used to seeing? IMO

Ironton was a very physical football team. imo the Tomcats held pretty well and improved greatly this week. This scrimmage was good preparation for their first season opponent, Raceland who runs a similar defense as the Tigers.

He should be back for Russell. He can start practice 50% starting wed. i believe, the rest depends on how his back feels.

I have been to 4 scrimmages this year and all have had a 2 or 3 dollar charge. Most have it listed as a donation. If it goes to help the kids I am all for it.

The only scrimmage I went to as all of them I have ever attended in Ohio have been as they should,free.
