Raceland outscored West Carter 28-0 total in a two part scrimmage. The first part was a 10 play at a time sets, Raceland scoring the first two times they had the ball and winning that part 14-0. They looked in great physical condition considering they just broke from their week long camp and their team enthusiasm was great. Nice to see the new coaching addition, I hope some of the Ironton tradition rubs off.

The Rams are working really hard and the 11 members of the coaching staff have all helped improve the Rams from last season! They also had an awesome off season in the weight room! I think that there will be a lot of surprised people come the Ashland game! They are really coming together as a team! The atmosphere in the community is awesome which also plays a big part in the future of this years season.

Welcome to the site rams78. You are right about the Rams off season training in the weight room. Rick Cornette has been a difference maker in the program and all the hard work is beginning to show. Raceland has an excellent coaching staff in place and things seem to be moving in the right direction.As for the Ashland people being surprised, I do not think that will happen. Ashland has a great tradition and program of their own and always respect their opponent, so they will be ready to play football come gametime.

Raceland does have a great football tradition and has turned out some very fine football players over the years sending some on to the collegiate level. The Rams celebrated their 80th year of football in 2005. I too have lived in this area and followed Ram athletics all my life.I also am a former player so I understand what "Ram Pride" means. While some years have been down as far as community support there is always a large fan base that follows Raceland football where ever it goes and I hope they continue to do so. I think your memory may be just a little uncertain. While we have beaten Ashland on a few occassions I am sure that the Tomcats have the winning edge in terms of wins and losses. Just playing a team with the Tradition that Ashland has is always a great learning tool for the future players at Raceland and shows them what it takes to become a Championship program.

I really don't think that we do have that winning record over Ashland rams78. Not sure but I do believe that the Tomcats hold an edge. Don't worry, I know that the Ramblers are expecting a good season but you can bet, just as cville said that Ashland will be ready come opening night. To me the Ashland game is a measuring stick of sorts for us to see what we have and do not have and what we need to work on. I have been watching Raceland football since around the late 60's on and will always support them.

Who is the new coaching addition and his background ?

i agree with all of the comments but looking back on some of the other posts about this years team oldrambler has forgot a young man that was a junior that he said had some really good games last year.he didnt even have him playing this year on the line and according to the coaches and rick cornett he is helping lead this team. clint thompson a senior lineman scored one of their touchdowns on an interception. Many of the smaller colleges are recruiting him thomas moore, kcc etc.. Another additition is benji mullins no one has mentioned. tough kid trying to feel thomas tollivers shoes. although i think beech is going to be right there i think we need to mention these overlooked boys.

Coaches have said the rams are trying to honor a winning team that i believe one of their coaches was on which is gary fannin is the either 1996 or 1997 team. when you look in program this year it is all about that. at the game a parent mentioned that out of all the seniors 9 or 10 has been together since pee wee leagues and are extremely close and live for football. so this could be their year.

oldram, Clinton Thompson's name was left of the list by mistake and was not intentional. These preview involve a lot of work and sometimes a player may not be mentioned, thanks for bringing the attention to Clinton Thompson. Clinton is a great player and will be counted on to help lead the Rams to a championship. If you read the preview again, you will see that Mullins was mentioned. Again, if any players were left off it was not on purpose and apologies to those that were left off. Maybe next season you can contact those involved in putting the preview together and give everyone some assistance. All help would be greatly appreciated.

Coach Vanderhoof has done a great job of remembering the Rams teams of past years. This is what makes the Ram Tradition what it is. All of our kids play almost every sport together from the time they are 8 years old all the way through their high school careers. All the players and their families involved in Raceland athletics are considered a part of the Raceland Ram Pride family, this is what makes our program so special and makes kids growing up wanting to be a part of the Orange and Black.On most away games the Ram fans have turned out greater numbers than the home team.After 80 years of football, Ram Pride is still alive and well!!!!

Coach Fannin was a great player along with his brother and is a great addition to the coaching staff and I think will make a great head coach someday.

Oldram, Like cville posted there is a lot of work and "asking questions" involved in coming up with a preview. Info is some times hard to come by and if any player was left off the list I apologize, I did not mean to "slight" anyone. I did however mention B. Mullins. maybe you misssed it when reading. If you are still a member next year maybe you could help with the preview? I was contacted by a bgp administrastor / mod to help with it this year and did the best I could with what info I was able to come up with. Your comments about filling Tolliver's shoes are correct but I feel that there are more shoes to fill besides his from last years team. The "Ram Pride" tradition goes further than just replacing one player. By the way, welcome to the bgp site. By your # of post I can tell that you are new.

i think the men and women that report do an excellent job and i dont think my imput needs to be there but i was in poor health and came back out to see the rams last year and was impressed with that young man (clint thompson) Bill tom ross said the coaches think the world of him. i noticed that last year you had commented on his play. i do stand corrected over benji didnt read it well last night. as an old man its my hope that these little guys that overcome obstacles to start get their chance to go on a play a little college and i think that boy might be the one to go with the rumored work ethic they say he has.

oldram, you are correct in your statement about Clinton's work ethic. I have watched him grow up & and had the pleasure of coaching him when he played baseball. He has become a fine young man and a real good football player. Clinton has really worked hard to get to the point he is at right now and I hope he reeps the reward for his efforts. I love to see any kid move on to the next level, it is a chance of a lifetime. Good luck to Clinton and all the Ram players on the upcoming season. I also welcome you to BGP.
