If Russell wants to play Raceland then don't use the cop out that their place is too small. Lawrence County used to have some GREAT battles (45-44... 3-0 etc) with Raceland and they never looked down their nose at the facilities at Raceland as a cop out to not play them at their place. If the game is that special then people aren't going to care to stand to watch the game.

:thumb: Standing on the sidelines is a tradition at Raceland so we do not mind standing at all. Maybe just some prefer luxury boxes.

No apology necessary cville, :thumb: I think that we all can tell who said what and I will just leave it at that.I cetainly have no problem with your comments at all. I agree on not getting in to a Raceland/Russell debate and if I added to it then I am sorry bc I also got off the original Raceland/West subject. I respect other opinions and teams and expect the same in return. The statement / comment about Fairview dominance over Raceland was laughable , they have won a few in the last few years but if anyone can look at the overall series I believe the answer is very clear. I think that there was one strech of about 16 straight wins for Raceland :sssh: in that series, if not 16 that # is very close. Again, no problem and I will stay off anything on this thread except for the scrimmage itself.

I'm really not trying to argue and I hope none of my Raceland friends take offense...Those who read my posts know that I try to avoid that type of stuff...I'm just wanting someone to explain why it's wrong or arrogant to suggest that Russell play Raceland only if they agree to play at Russell while the Raceland faithful "appear" to be all too happy to play all their games with Ashland at Ashland...I've tried to look at this logically and cannot see why it is not the best overall solution...I know everybody likes to play at home but this reminds me of the family Thanksgiving dinners when we were first married...I wanted to have the dinner at my house but our house was smaller and while we could have squeezed everyone in, not everyone would get to eat together and I realized that the best solution would be to let the ones who could better accomodate the guests host the dinners...

 

This game is not mandatory like our district games so there is no need to squeeze in somewhere when there is more room 3-4 miles away...Lets work out a mutually beneficial financial solution & play some football...:thumb:

If I were Raceland then I'd have Ashland and Russell coming to my place. So what if some of the fans have to stand. The ones that need to sit can and the ones that don't will probably have the option. There is a huge difference in playing on your home field in High School during big games.

As far as Russell and Ashland having the same accomodations....? Ashland has one of THE best fields in the state. Russell is an outstanding program with a very rich tradition. I have friends that coach and are very involved there but the football facility isn't in the same ballpark with Putnam!

IMHO, the sporting facilities at Raceland (basketball, baseball, softball and FOOTBALL), are all in better shape than Russell's facilities. I don't buy the parking crap. I've walked from the far side of Russell's gym to the the football field to see a game and never complained. As for standing to watch the game, I remember my dad (a former Ironton Tiger) walking the sidelines along with many others to watch my brothers play for Raceland in the 70's. Standing is most definitley a tradition at Raceland. I don't have a say in whether they play Russell or not, but the games should be split, not both at Russell. Gotta give me a better reason than parking to buy into that.

:thumb: Very well said incognito, and so very true. I have also had to walk from across the street next to their JFL field to see a football game. I remember those fans in the 70's standing on the sidelines, they would greet us as we came out of the locker room forming a double line as we walked through them.As a high school kid it seemed like there were fans everywhere.It meant a lot to us that we had that kind of support.I was always taught that more is not always better. I hope the coaches never agree to play Russell at their field only.They never had a problem coming to our house before so why is it now a problem?

i go along with all comments on the raceland team. parents should be parents and grandparents so forth administration should be just that and coaches should be left alone to do their job. My comments before resulted only from a parent at that particular ballgame bashing the raceland coaching staff and finding humor in the fact they keep coming after their son.

The staff is doing such an excellent job i wanted to vent some frustration. As far as the coaching staff i am sure they are just trying to give a couple young men a chance to play. It is a true honor to play for raceland. As far as playing time i am well aware that you play to win with the best being out there on the field. That is as it should be in high school. Wishing for a good showing in pikeville. Teams that will be there are going to hard to beat but these boys seem pumped and ready to go.

alternating fields is always best. I think it is an exciting thing when a game that size is played on your home field. i am sure Raceland would do everything in their power to accom. the crowd and their needs

Then why don't you make the Ashland fans come and stand at your place??? I have no problem standing or walking some distance to watch a game...I stand at more games than I sit so I'm fine with that...I would never bring up this issue at all if you weren't so happy to go to Ashland everytime you play them...Granted, no one in the area has a better playing surface than Ashland but I can assure you the playing surface is not the reason you play there everytime you play...Ashland will only schedule you if you agree to play at Putnam everytime...That's the reality...Scheduling you is done simply to ensure another home game with a good gate...If it wasn't they would schedule you every year and play home & home with you...Scheduling you has little to do with respect and a lot to do with MONEY...Mark Swift is a smart AD and he always finds non-district home games that are good gates...As soon as Ashland agrees to a home and home series with you, you can start talking about mutual respect...

Good point. Doesn't Russell usually play Greenup County? Perhaps it's just a matter of county bragging rights. By the way, Raceland's facilities seem to be very good and it's surely a fun atmosphere.

I agree...I wouldn't agree to it on a regular basis either...If there was a team out there I wanted to play 1 time & the only way I could play them was to agree to go to their place, I would do so but not everytime...I don't understand why Raceland does it with Ashland...If I did agree to it, I couldn't say the reason was mutual respect...Again, I haven't been trying to make anyone mad...Raceland takes a back seat to no one in the pride department and for good reason...Raceland doesn't need Russell or Ashland to validate that...:thumb:
