Give us an honest opinion. Don't tell us about the '57 Tomcats or the '76 Devils.

Point out what you see as advantages and disadvantages to the venue.

IMO it is no question that it is Putnam Stadium, not even close. The seating all the way around is much better. The playing surface at Putnam is always in good shape where the surface (or lack there of) at Russell reminds one of a mud wrestling pit. Russells restroom acsess is bad, are on one end of the field located where the locker rooms are and only one r.r.. During crowded games the line is unbelievably long. That may explain the sometimes foul odor coming from the baseball field dugouts :sssh: :sssh: :sssh: :D :D . Seriously, I really don't think that there is any comparison at all, the atmosphere at Putnam Stadium is what high school football is all about. It is the best place in this area to sit and watch a footbll game. If there are any drawbacks to Putnam, I would say that it would be the parking acsess and the visitors locker room.

Parking = Russell-except for the other side of the school.

Seating=Ashland-best place around to watch a game.

Playing Field= Ashland-looks like a golf course every year.

Rest Rooms=Ashland -they have doors

Concessions=Ashland

Locker Rooms=Visitor goes to Russell

Atmosphere=Ashland

Police Security=Ashland

This is no contest. First of all Putnam Stadium is a National Historical Landmark. The main drawback to Evans Stadium is the track, and the metal bleachers on the visitors side. Also one of the great things about Putnam Stadium is that the visitor's seats and view are just as good as the home side. Plus the field always looks great the checkerboard endzone is second to none, and the new concession area is by far the best in EKY. Putnam could use better parking, but other than that it is a truly great high school stadium, not only for EKY, but for the entire country.

I like the old stadiums ... Tank ,Spartan(Universal) ,Putnam .... Spartan beats them all ...

Something about the Echo's ... Ashland could do more with visitors locker room and all the chain link fence in the end zone areas ...

Grass at Ashland has really improved ... In the late 70's it was all mud down the middle and very little grass near the sidelines and pure mud on the sidelines

But in 2a football , Henry R Evans is in a class of it's own ... travel to West/East Carter , or Powell or Estill or Morgan or Lewis , or Fleming ...

Nothing against Russell's facilities, but this one is a no brainer IMO. During all of my years of playing and coaching I never once said or heard a player say they wanted to play at a stadium because they have a nice locker room.:D It's the atmosphere between the two sides that makes a stadium special.

Russell has a real nice home side but concessions, restrooms, vistors side, need alot of work. Hands down Putnam is the one. I would like to see something done with lockerooms on both sides, and better parking. But what a place to spend a friday night. IMO. Of course everybody should feel that way about there own place that is what makes schools strive to have bigger an better stadiums. Ah sweet rivalry!

I would say Putnam stadium as a fan, but I think the real question would be which place is it harder for a visiting team to come in and win at?

I'm not so sure my vote would stay with Putnam Stadium if that was the question.

Putnam has better grass.

Locker rooms, Press box(room for visiting coaches), Scoreboard, parking, and comfort go to Henry R. Evans.

Restrooms are lacking at both.

No contest.

I have only been to Putnam one time and I will say that I was very disapointed by the nastiness of the complex. I would have thought that as much that I haver read about how great that Putnam is that the Ashland folks would clean it up a little bit. I know it's an old facility and there is nothing wrong with charactor, but there is no excuse in being dirty and nasty. Could be a great place if they took a little bit more pride in cleaning it up, rather than just bragging about the atmosphere.

I know what's coming next, I guess I've really went and done it now..

Wow. Nasty and Dirty? I dont think so. A little more pride in cleaning it up? Those are some pretty harsh statements coming from a "one time" visitor. You obviously didnt see me over there pulling weeds out of concrete, or cutting the grass and painting. To come on here and make such broad statements seems a little reckless. There are a group of 12 or so guys that spend countless hours throughout the summer and fall keeping Putnam Stadium looking great all season. We dont get paid and dont expect credit or recognition, we do it because of pride for the stadium and a love of Tomcat football. So dont say that we should take more pride in cleaning it up when you dont see how great our stadium looks each and every Friday night.

Kind of exactly the reponse I thought I would get.:lol:

Reckless? I just saw what I saw, whether it be the first time or the hundredth time I visited. It's kind of like walking into Alumni Gym. You can talk about tradition and atmosphere all you want . It's still old, dirty, and nasty and should be condemed. Those are just the plain simple facts. I actually hate that place.

At Putnam, try walking up the side behind the visitors bleachers and glance to your right underneath the bleachers and look at all of the junk and trash lying around or glance over to your left and look in the doors of the locker rooms (if one of the doors happen to be open)....Pit-e-ful, is all I can say....... Maybe I just caught it all on that one bad day .It's just not what I expected to see, especially, if you read some of these threads and some of the posts glorifying the place as the Holy Grail of football. As I said it could be very nice, your concession area is AOK.

Just a helpful hint. Your efforts should certainly be applauded, but how about maybe sending in some of the big guns to help nail this project down. Maybe all you need is Dirk and Dickie to lend a little helping hand to spiffy things up around the area that I mentioned.:D ..........Just kiddding around there, GIAT.:p

I would have to go with Putnam on all counts except for parking. Putnam is a very nice stadium, but having been built in the late 20's it is in need of updating in the locker rooms. I was not real impressed with the turf (playing surface) when we played last year. But I guess you have to expect a field to be in bad shape late in the year.

Alot of history at that old stadium.
