Kind of exactly the reponse I thought I would get.

Reckless? I just saw what I saw, whether it be the first time or the hundredth time I visited. It's kind of like walking into Alumni Gym. You can talk about tradition and atmosphere all you want . It's still old, dirty, and nasty and should be condemed. Those are just the plain simple facts. I actually hate that place.

At Putnam, try walking up the side behind the visitors bleachers and glance to your right underneath the bleachers and look at all of the junk and trash lying around or glance over to your left and look in the doors of the locker rooms (if one of the doors happen to be open)....Pit-e-ful, is all I can say....... Maybe I just caught it all on that one bad day .It's just not what I expected to see, especially, if you read some of these threads and some of the posts glorifying the place as the Holy Grail of football. As I said it could be very nice, your concession area is AOK.

Just a helpful hint. Your efforts should certainly be applauded, but how about maybe sending in some of the big guns to help nail this project down. Maybe all you need is Dirk and Dickie to lend a little helping hand to spiffy things up around the area that I mentioned.:D ..........Just kiddding around there, GIAT.:p

Trust me Dirk and Dicky do their part both physically and financially to keep the stadium looking great.

Um no. But he's there cutting the grass with me every Sunday, not to mention all the other times he's there working. Whether it be working the concession during this year's scrimmages or during JFL, his work for Ashland sports and Putnam Stadium is second to none.

Your missing the boat with no scene footage. Could be excellent material for a documentary that could be purchased on Pay per View as a fund raiser. :D

Just a thought.

Wow. Nasty and Dirty? I dont think so. A little more pride in cleaning it up? Those are some pretty harsh statements coming from a "one time" visitor. You obviously didnt see me over there pulling weeds out of concrete, or cutting the grass and painting. To come on here and make such broad statements seems a little reckless. There are a group of 12 or so guys that spend countless hours throughout the summer and fall keeping Putnam Stadium looking great all season. We dont get paid and dont expect credit or recognition, we do it because of pride for the stadium and a love of Tomcat football. So dont say that we should take more pride in cleaning it up when you dont see how great our stadium looks each and every Friday night.

Maybe Firebird's one visit was at a Saturday's JFL game after a big win for the tomcats in Putnam Stadium. :thumb:

Is this really a serious question? Comparing HR Evans stadium to Putnam seems nonsensical at best...but I along with several others took the bait and voted.

Putnam Stadium is not a perfect venue. It's old and in need of repair in many areas...believe me, with the hours that several of us put in WE KNOW where those areas of improvement are. HOWEVER, I have heard a vast number of compliments from opposing PLAYERS as to how special Putnam truly is. From a fans perspective, I would challenge anyone to name a better facility for high school football than Putnam Stadium. Certainly, there are others out there, but not anywhere close to our region.

My son played 4 years of high school football and stated that the best atmosphere to play in was at Putnam. He said the only thing close was playing at Beechwood.

If you want history and atmosphere go to Tank or Spartan. Outside of the turf there is nothing about Putnam that is overwhelming. Maybe the odor coming from the dungeon of the so called lockerroom.

This poll was started knowing what the result would be...Many of us know the true reasons why this thread was started...

Putnam is a great environment for football because of it's design...No other stadium in our area can compete with the atmosphere because of that...It almost feels enclosed because of how close the seats are to the field & the trees in the endzone...I wouldn't want to duplicate Putnam but if I were building a new stadium I would want to copy that concept because it does make the fans feel like they are more involved with the game...This is why Putnam would win a poll like this no matter who you compare it to in our area...Even with the great tradition & history of Tanks in Ironton, I would give the nod to Putnam strictly because of design...Russell or any other school in this area could add field turf, add a jumbotron, update their concessions & bathrooms to state of the art facilities, & they still would lose this poll because wide open stadiums cannot compete with the environment created by Putnam's design...Until someone builds a stadium that can create that closed in "part of the action" feel around here, Putnam will always win a poll like this...

Also, there's a nostalgia factor involved...Great American Ballpark in Cincinnatti is better than Wrigley Field for the fans and players but if given a choice on where you would pick if given the opportunity to visit one major league ballpark and these were the choices, MOST players and fans would pick Wrigley for this reason...

It's still old, dirty, and nasty and should be condemed. Those are just the plain simple facts. I actually hate that place.

Tell us how you really feel firebird.

I can't even take that comment serious enough to respond to it.

Devil 58 -

Thanks for the honest opinion. In return, let me say that if Russell were able to duplicate the home side stands on the visitors side (even if they didn't run the entire length of the field), and put some restrooms, concessions, and a visitors locker room underneath, Henry R. Evans would be superb.

We all know that the perfect stadium doesn't exist - at the NFL level or college level - much less at the high school level. Every field has its pluses and minuses.

I see nothing to be gained by speaking ill of any schools facilities, I just want to be there on Friday night, when Ashland, Ironton, Russell or any good team is matched up with an equally talented opponent.

I love watching two good teams go head to head. If Ashland is one of them, all the better. I think it's pretty telling at the end of the season, as our local teams are slowly eliminated from the playoffs. You then begin to see the TRUE football fans, as they immediately pick up the local teams that remain alive from week to week.

Not only is Putnam a sight, it is an electrifying experience to come down those steps on friday nights and to hear the stadiums audience, Putnam has by far the best playing surface as well as being the most asthetically pleasing.:thumb: :thumb:
