Highlands invades the most celebrated high school football stadium in Greater Cincinnati against a team rich in tradition with the largest and most loyal fan base as well. Highlands' biggest win across the river was over Trotwood Madison and their most recent was over Withrow (two in a row). Playing in Ohio vs Elder, Moeller and Colerain however, has been tough going for some quite talented HHS teams. The parallels between this Elder squad and the fine CovCath team are evident. HHS has the opportunity to implement defensive adjustments necessary to slow down a relentless grind-it-out ground attack. Expect a margin of victory greater than one TD by The Team From Kentucky.

Is NKY Football Really That Good?
First Musketeer replied to Keep It Real's topic in KY Football (High School)
NKY may well produce three title winners this year. Considering that there are no 3A teams in NKY, even two champs says something about the quality of area teams. IMO, the 4A title will be decided between CovCath & Highlands, while the 2A title will come down to Covington Holy Cross & Newport Central Catholic. Beechwood will be in the finals also, and I wouldn't bet against them. -

This Owen County Rebel team is rolling. Good Luck men and stay focused. Its been since the late 70's since Owen has made such a run. -
Time for a little Aretha Franklin. Its remarkable how an observavion can stir-up replies. Go Birds.

Just suprised to see it on the games forth play. My only thought is "respectful"

Is this the most dominating Highlands team ever?
First Musketeer replied to nky_harry's topic in KY Football (High School)
I agree that they have dominated week opponents. Wining by 5 over CCH is not in the category of dominance. HHS has never defeated Elder. Is this the year? A likely rematch with CovCath will be a great battle. Offensively, HHS is amazing. -
The Tigers make a statement. Hopefully, they can string a few wins togather.

I'm loving this, for Coach Lickert & the Camels. Congrats CCHS. -
Birds show great respect to Bulldogs by going onsides with 13 seconds elapsed and a 7-0 lead.

Yes the '72 win over X was great. Really worked for the shut-out. I think '72 season ended in a close home loss to Bryan Station - a slugfest. Some great playoff games with BS in that era, particularly a win in Lex in '68. The win by a FG on the half dry - half soaked field at Bell ranks near the top, as does the come-from-behind title win over Hoptown.

Congrats Jags. I believe this is a turning point for the Cooper program.

This should be a great game between two hungry programs. Slight edge to OC. -

Besides Grey's awsome running. CCH also was very effective with the screen pass. Their offense was balanced and the Birds have much to work on. Yet, it was Highland's D, gassed, as a quiet mad fan watched, who mustered two great second half defensive stands, that secured the win and the home field advantage. These are two great teams. I hope everyone gets healthy for what will be the most anticipated rematch in a long time. -

Fabulous game. Birds excape with victory despite two huge fumbles that lead to only 3 points by CCH. Penatlies were few, but they were critical. Both offenses wore down the D's. Final defensive stand by the Birds and PT's legs were the difference. -
Owen County 38 Bellevue 12
First Musketeer replied to hrcarrier's topic in KY Football (High School)
I agree HRC. Owen has nice size and the QB distsibutes the ball well from the shotgun. The Tigers were overmatched physically, and I'd like to see a little more creativity offensively for Bellevue, but they never lost heart. Good luck to the Rebles vs Walton Verona. I believe the Tigers may face the Beechwood Tigers next. -

Dandy job by the Colonels to knock-off arch rival Beechies at home by two scores. Good luck next week! -

Bobcats roll. Unfortunately, not much competition in their league.
