  1. Justin Johnson. The players and coaches refer to him as JJ.
  2. Congratulations to the Mustangs on your first win! Also, I commend all the players who have stuck with the program. Nice job!:thumb:
  3. I know one pitcher that's coming back after a few years away because of football. He's "not" a household name, but was the best pitcher on the JV squad as a Freshman.
  4. Captains for 2009 were selected this morning. All of these young men have shown leadership throughout their careers at HHS. It's a great honor and they should be congratulated for the way they conduct themselves on and off the football field. Best of luck to you and your teammates this season! They are: Will Bardo Tyler Combs Austin Collinsworth Cameron Dierig Brandon Roller Hunter Schlosser
  5. I'm sure Towles has worked hard. Good for him. Barto is actually Bardo and let the team get through 2009 before they worry about 2010.
  6. Typical scrimmage in my opinion. However, the Birds starting O, D, and special teams looked to be ready to go. The substitutions were many which you won't find during the regular season. But it was a good measuring stick for the entire squad. Keep working boys! Everyone can get better!:thumb:
  7. James Jones and Hunter Jones are NOT brothers.
  8. I know nothing about Conner's defense, but going against Highlands defense day after day will only improve Bardo's skills. Not to mention his skills are already very very good!
  9. Wasn't there a young man by the last name Barringer in the early 90's that went to UK? I'm not sure he played all 4 years, but I remember seeing him on the roster a few years.
  10. Like many of us, you sound if as you've got great memories from playing at HHS. Please come around and introduce yourself. It's great to watch practice and swap stories about the old days.
  11. Dale likes to get his O-line set early and the rest fall where they may. Snyder moved into Ft. Thomas late winter early spring. He is a senior. Beck has put on some weight and should be plenty big enough for tackle. Welz has been getting alot of work at TE.
  12. Michael his family and teammates are in our prayers.
  13. It appears the O-line is set with Combs at center, Schlosser and Snyder (sp) at guards, Grubbs and Beck at the tackles.
  14. Let's just hope this doesn't drag into the season. That can only be accomplished by the KHSAA and school doing their homework!
  15. Two very good points BF!
  16. I like your thinking, but first things first!
  17. I agree with you to a point Guru. I don't want Will to think this season is all on his shoulders. He's a great player and wonderful young man, but this team needs to realize they have to continue to work hard ALL season. They have the opportunity to have a great season and make wonderful memories. At some point this season they'll be challenged (as most teams) to see how bad they want it. If they stay together as a team the sky's the limit for this group. Good luck to all of you! GO BIRDS!:thumb:
  18. The Lineman looked AWESOME down in the valley!
  19. I also think the scouts are going to love what they see in Kyle Welz this season at Highlands. I'm not sure, but he's in the 6'6" range and about 250 lbs. I think this young man is going to have a great season for the Birds!
  20. 3pete, I think the Birds OL may be the best in NKY overall. They're going to have a combination of size, speed and athletic ability. Plus they have the "T" factor in Coach Turner.
  21. Coach Flynn attended the Booster Meeting tonight. This is the first time I've met him. He seems very excited and appreciative to be coming to Highlands. Smart move on his part since the Boosters have the resources to funnel dollars into his program.
  22. I'm not sure about the coaching question you asked. But, I did like the quote in the paper from Flynn wanting to open the door and contact former players about scrimmages and being involved in the program. Sounds like you better get the hightops back out...................
  23. The Board approved adding Freshman Baseball next season tonight. Great move for the baseball program.
  24. You'll see Frosh Baseball before you see a 6th Grade Basketball Team.
