  1. They're coaches, not doctors. Hydration takes place 24 hours prior to a practice/game. While water breaks and such help quench thirst, they only keep you hydrated slightly at that particular time. And if you think any coach would jeopardize a child, his career, his family, by not following the new, more strict, KHSAA guidelines on practicing in the heat...you don't know very many coaches. As 3wishes said. Kids in our area aren't acclimated. Think about it. If you are south of us you are used to hot weather because it's hot most of the year. If you are north of us it usually doesn't get that hot. Not only does it get hot here, like it does in the south, but the humidity is much worse. On top of that, it's only really hot 3-4 months out of the year. It only makes sense that kids aren't as acclimated as they could be. Part of that is on them and part is out of their control.
  2. Right, but the person I quoted specifically stated "dead period".
  3. That is not correct. An entire team of baseball/basketball players from the same school can play games anywhere they want, except for their schools field/gym during the dead period. The only other restrictions are no school equipment, no school uniforms, no school coaches (volunteer or otherwise), no school transportation, or no school finances are used.
  4. I don't get it. Nothing stops a summer basketball/baseball team from playing games during the dead period, even if the team consists of all players from the same school. Simply put, you can't use the school's name, uniforms, equipment, facilities, or coaches (paid or volunteer), buses, and it can not be financed by any organization affiliated with the school. This would not be doing any of those things.
  5. True statement. He wasn't umpiring. Wow! If this is your definition of disrespectful I'm sure you're appalled on a nightly basis of what SOME Harrison Co fan's say during a game. They were unreal last year at St. Henry.
  6. Is this a question? If so, the answer is Spritzky. If it's not a question, yes, that is impressive. Along with everything else they do.
  7. These things are nothing more than fundraisers. Why do people SPEND thousands of dollars on "elite camps" to SAVE thousands of dollars on college tuition?
  8. How does this hurt football?
  9. If so, he better hope for good weather the next three days or he could be sitting the district game.
  10. Wilhoite is the new AD at Dixie, per Ryan Ernst. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/
  11. Most ash are around $50-60 and Maple $90-110. Kids can get three or four bats for the price of one metal. Not sure what will happen with the price of wood bats if there is a nationwide ban on metal. Of course, demand will go up but there are a lot of deals that will be made between the state associations as well. IMVHO metal bats will not go away because H&B, Easton, Mizuno, Rawlings, Nike, DeMarini...etc. have invested way too much into metal bat production and pay a ton into baseball associations at all levels.
  12. http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/bylaw25.pdf d) The season shall consist of a maximum of thirty-six (36) games to be played prior to the beginning of KHSAA state championship competition (district).
  13. Since when do you have to play a sport to be able to coach it well? In reading some of your thoughts and ideas, I don't care if you are an NFL Hall of Famer I wouldn't want my kid to play for you.
  14. Basketball and football players are in tremendous condition, just a different type of condition. So should high school baseball play 50+ games like college also?
  15. So you don't have to be in any type of physical condition to play football or baseball? God knows baseball doesn't have anything to do with feel. Comparing high school sports to college? What does that prove?
  16. 6 teams play football in December. If basketball would start the first week of November they could start games the Monday after the state championship, like baseball does with the basketball tournament. Then, there are only 6 teams that don't have football kids practicing basketball a week before their season starts.
  17. This has less to do with football. Basketball is simply too long. It's the longest season of all sports in KY. Football and baseball are generally 5 months long but basketball is 6 months. Ohio gets started around the 1st week of November and usually finishes one week earlier than Kentucky. Football may be a bit longer than that now but you can't start games earlier than they do because of the heat index.
  18. Novel idea, where those tight things UNDER a pair of real shorts. They don't have to be baggy like basketball shorts. They can be a little shorter like track shorts. What they are currently wearing is more revealing than most cheerleading uniforms.
  19. Not saying it's an everyday occurence, but surely you agree that it's a tough sell with all the upgrades going on at CCH?
  20. Can we stop the "CovCath can't just get a hold of money when they want it." argument? Yeah, neither can Elder.
  21. Oregon and Iowa doesn't seem to have a problem. I've had football coaches tell me that spring football will help Kentucky produce more division 1 football players. Has that happened? Or, is 18 about right or is it high/low?
