Why Do VBallers Wear Those Shorts?

Featured Replies

I heard a guy commenting on volleyball players' shorts today.

What is the reason for them being so skimpy? Why wouldn't basketball shorts work?

They give the players an unhindered range of motion .

One thing you don't see too often is volleyball players wearing compression shorts. A look that just doesn't work.

So basketball playes have a hindered range of motion?

Different as night and day .

Checked the NCAA site.

The mens teams wear more traditional gym shorts.

Similar to basketball uniform.

Can you educate this cynic on how those shorts are better for volleyball than traditional basketball shorts?

My daughter plays HS volleyball and I hate the shorts. The school she plays for is much more conservative than many of the teams they played against (many literally looked like shorts from Hooters), but they are still way too short and way too tight IMHO.

They call them "spankies" when you're a female cross-country runner wearing them.

Way too short and tight and without valid reason in my opinion. Of course, as much time as these players spend diving and sliding on the court, perhaps they stay in place better than basketball shorts would.

Basketball players dive and slide. I have yet to see anyone lose their shorts.

Don't see it. The womens national team is looking at going toward basketball shorts style. I think it started at the beach and carried over to the gym. Now it is something that girls who play expect and like.

A few years ago I saw some guys at a match with shirts on that said "WE CAME TO SUPPORT" on the front of their shirts, On the back it said, " WE STAY FOR THE SHORTS".

Actually .. that would be somewhat incorrect (or maybe not incorrect--but maybe a little inaccurate).

Spankies = Cheerleading

Bunhuggers = Track/Cross Country

(And yes ... I know .... that definitely isn't a better adjective in this scenario!)
