Well...the wrestling uniforms are form-fitting (and somewhat ugly) because of the grappling/grabbing aspect of the sport. And for the sake of another possible comparison, swimsuits are tight and cover relatively little skin to reduce drag, as do some track uniforms. I could buy the "unhindered range of motion" explanation for gymnastic uniforms, considering the extreme amount of multi-directional motion a gymnast uses (in comparison to volleyball, which doesn't involve much more movement than any basketball player generally would).

 

However, the "bunhuggers" that female volleyball players wear are aren't serving any of those purposes as far as I can see.

 

The men seem to do fine with athletic shorts...

Girls do roll a lot more in volleyball and in Basketball and the long shorts would come up the leg. I think some of them are fine, some are too short..just like the cheerleading uniforms. The coach just needs to make sure they fit properly and they do not pull them up as they play.

I wore Buns or bunhuggers in College and hated every minute of it! IMO spandex are fine. IMO they are more comfortable to play in than bball shorts.

Novel idea, where those tight things UNDER a pair of real shorts. They don't have to be baggy like basketball shorts. They can be a little shorter like track shorts.

 

What they are currently wearing is more revealing than most cheerleading uniforms.

How else are they going to get the fans to come out?
