Pburg lost a ton of talent from last year. You have to tip your hat to the kids and staff there. They have really nice team speed and really fly to the ball on defense. Burchette is one of the more underatted QB's in the state. He is a nice player!

Kids played really hard tonight. Paintsville got two late scores on the J.V. I think LC had 5 or 6 guys with over 80yds rushing with a couple getting over 100. Pack had around 130 on 9 carries. Soph Lance Clay ran a kick back 80yds and had 100yds on 3 carries I think. Paintsville had under 20 yds passing. Hunter James, Turner OBrian and Blake Bradely all had rushing TD's too. Freshman Caleb Bentley was close to 100. The big guys up front played really well. Really happy for the group of Sr's that have stuck together through thick and thin. They deserve everything good that comes their way. Still A LOT of work to do on little things that matter but a nice start. I hope Paintsville sticks with their team. They should compete well in their class. The QB + RB have excellent speed and they have some size up front for a 1A school. They are also well coached. I look for them to play well in their class. I'm glad these two played again this year. This used to always be a nice rivalry only 20 minutes apart.

St X is St X. No secret them and Trinity have a huge advantage. I coached a lot of the kids at Henry Clay when they were younger. Anxious to see how they do. It's probably the most speed I've seen in high school.

Lawrence Co has a team playing in Chicago right now that is 4-1. I know they beat Hawaii + Alaska then split with Queens. My nephew Luke Trimble is now at Paintsville but used to play with them. That whole crew is good just not a lot of size.

Spectator: Sitting in the snow with dad watching Brohm vs Bush (Trinity/Male) state championship battle! Amazing!

Coaching best: Winning state, breaking Breathitt's win streak at 42 straight and shutting Highlands out at Highlands. Most of all the great relationships you build. Coaching worst: Building the foundation at two schools + the tough times before the tide finally turns. Tough to see kids go through what it takes to build a solid program that aren't there when you start reeping the benefits. Playing best: Undefeated Soph year, beating Russell in double OT in the playoffs after thy had beaten us by 40, Stopping Mason Co on the 3 yd line to win Region, sweeping the District Sr year, 4 pts from playing on the carpet which was unheard of where I'm from. Woke up around Christmas and found out I made the Courier Journal All State Honorable Mention team along with a couple of friends (didn't happen much then where I'm from). Most of all relationships with teammates and coaches and getting prepared for life. The years I played it really brought our communitty together. We had people lined up on both sides of the road escorting us out of town, rival schools coming down carrying our flag around the track etc. It was an awesome time! Playing worst: Loss to Pburg in Regional Championship, loss to Mayfield in the final 4, loss to a rival and our bus got a ticket on the way home....it was only about a 10 minute drive lol

I like Conner a lot. If I were playing FB in a college offense I would rather be playing a roll like LenDale White did at USC as opposed to J. Conner. I'm really happy for Fuggate.

I think you are right about UK not really using that kind of roll player. Congrats to Fugatte. I have said for a couple of years that he's the best RB I've seen out of Eastern Ky in a long time. He can run over you, great stiff arm, nice spin move and has deceiving speed for a kid his size. I hope he gets to stay on offense. H Back/Fullback would be a great spot for him. I'm really proud and happy for him!

I think it's an individual basis. I also think there is probably a better chance to find a great coach from the guy that worked their tail off to learn the game to overcome their lack of physical ability. They studied film in high school, put in the extra reps and noticed the little details that would give them an edge on game night. Many great athletes got by on talent alone. I also have a best friend coaching in college and one in the NFL that were two of the best I've ever seen at their positions. They are outstanding coaches even though they were very talented. The commont thing in all the guys I think of: 1. Positive attitudes 2. Enthusiastic..love the game and individuals 3. Competitive drive beyond the normal person 4. Ability to communicate 5. Drive to never stop learning 6. Loyal 7. Outwork but be efficient in what they are doing Those are just a few things real quick of my head. I would say if I were stereotyping I've probably seen more guys that had to get everything out of their abilities make the best coaches but I do know a good bit of guys that were great players and are great coaches. I think if you really look at the question Great players/great coaches.... the Jimmy's and Joes sure help the X+O's! There are exceptions but it sure is easier to win when you have the talent.

Congrats from Lawrence County. As a player and coach I always felt like he was a class act.

Congrats to the Dogs on back to back Regional Championships. I think this is the 3rd straight year they have met District foe JC in the Regional Championship. Speaks volumes for both programs. Stay hungry!

I've coached with Buggs. He is a great guy. He coached the oline at Lawrence Co with Chuke Williams when they were around the top rushing team in the state. He coached the Oline at JC while they turned things around there. Congrats to Powell Co + Buggs.

Vinny's a great kid. I taught him in middle school. Did Brudette go to Hayes? I also saw Brandon Johnson I think it was and Blake Green finished 1-2 in the 100 meters and the relay team at the top in the 4x2 I think it was with Jerry Williams also in there. Are those guys playing football? That whole crew was at Hayes together along with Shannon Coofer, Elijah (OL), and Shawn (forgot his last name. That is the most speed I have ever seen in a middle school. Honestly they were faster than most high schools I've seen! I always wondered where they all ended up. Most at Henry Clay I think. Vinny, Brandon and Jerry are all underclassmen I think.

He's the best I've seen in Eastern KY in a long time.

Unfortuantly that's how it is in a lot of small towns.
