2010 KHSBCA Top 50 Players
Chandler Shepard Jr from Lawrence Co might very well have been the best pitcher in the state. He broke the all time scoreless consecutive innings record from his Frosh-Soph year! He had surgery but will be back playing this year. Taking a year off pitching then will hopefully be back his Sr year. He played for the big summer team up in Cincy as a Soph so that should tell you how good he is. He's put in a ton of work to get back! Should hopefully be a great story to follow as he is a great kid! Surgery on his right throwing arm so he decided to start throwing left handed. Will play in the field left handed this year possibly. So talented and such a hard worker! He's got a great bat too! Pitched in the Regional Championship game his 8th and 9th grade years! He's also won at Applebee's! Congrats to Shane Pack too. He's a beast! LC has a great shot to go back to Applebee's once again!

Jerry Lucas named Martha Layne Collins Head Football Coach
The feeder shcool to this school is one of the better talent pools I've been around in the state. Should be very interesting!

Knox Central 2010
I think they will be right around the top 10 pre season. They have a nice team coming back.

Bill Spencer Named Fleming County Head Coach
Congrats to Bill he's a great guy. I don't think there's anybody that cares more about the kids there. Best of luck!

Lawrence County 2010
I agree. I think Greenup will be all around better. Just saying Rowan's skill players are as good as they have had at Rowan Co. Cross should be one of the better players in the state and Wing is a nice sized athletic QB. We've got high expectations at LC too. Should be a fun year.

Lawrence County 2010
Rowan has all their skill back but the fullback. Cross will be one of the better players in the state. We've got high expectations at LC this year though. Knox should be really good again and I think Bell is preseason #1.

Lawrence County 2010
Top 3 tacklers O'Brian, Bradley, Skaggs will lead the defense. Shepard is coming back out and is one of the better athletes in the state. Shaffer saw a lot of time at LBer. On offense Kiser will be starting his 3rd year at QB. James 1,000+ last year should have a huge year. Bentley started the other RB spot and will be a Soph. 2 very good Fullbacks in Marcum + Quillan. Lost a lot on the oline but coach thinks this one can be better led by Combs who should end up Division 1 I think. Shep/Bradley/Skaggs/Clay should fill out the slot/WR spots. Finley/Marcum/Bradley will probably compete at TE. There are a couple of kids we're tryinig to get out of the hallways that could be huge difference makers too.

Speaking of Gamskey...did Taylor Sheer go on to play ball anywhere? He was a tough kid too!

Myths about Passing
I had never had it called until this year. It was frustrating becasue this one crew felt like they just wanted to take over the game. It's a physical sport. I like the crews that let them play as long as it's safe. I had an officiating class in college. The best line I heard was you know you have done a great job when fans don't realize you were there. That is unless a game is out of hand.

Myths about Passing
I guess a better way to phrase is when does a DB have to get his hands off a WR. I've heard officials say they can do it until the ball is in the air and I've heard they can't impede their route. I'm talking bump and run coverage. The other that I've seen called by some crews and not called by others is the crossing routes over the middle. Some let ILBers hit the crossers and some protect them.

Myths about Passing
I'd love to know your interpretation of how physical a DB can be with a WR if the ball is not in the air and when he has to get his hands off.

Does UK or U of L Do a Clinic for HS Football Coaches?
If you are looking to meet coaches around the state then the Nike one in Louisville is probably the best. If you are going to try to learn things then the glazierclinic is far and away the best IMO. If you want to learn drills then UK is good because you can watch practice first hand.

CJ All State Team
I don't put much into the AP. Courier Journal is better along with BGP. Ben Preston got snubbed in AP but 1st team by coaches. Roller is one of the best LBers Ive seen in high school even though it was only a couple of games.

CJ All State Team
Congrats everybody! Really proud of our kids through Lawrence Co. Ben Preston 1st team. Shane Pack 3rd team. Lucas Frazier and Boyles Boone Goldsmith hon men. Great kids off the field too!

All State Football Team of the Decade
I think Parker didn't qualify because he was gone in 99 I think same with Hamblin. I might be wrong. Both were two of the better in state history. M. Jones was also as good as I've seen in high school. I agree about Mike West too. Probably one of the best players in state history that never got the pub he should have. Grover was a beast if he qualified. I think some others worth mentioning are Justin Burke from Lex Cath. His numbers were crazy his SR year! T. McBroom was a very good athlete! Doug Howard didn't have the flashy numbers but was one heck of a high school back. D. Beaumont and Vic Anderson both had great high school careers. Duggins (I think that was Boyles QB) while he might not have been major D1 what he did in his career at QB is 2nd to none team wise. Rob Reynolds was really good! Chris Lofton was one heck of a WR that people forget about. Haddix at Breathitt was another nice QB. That is a great list. Those are just some kids that came to my mind real quck.

USA Today Super 25 final...Highlands #3

Is South Oldham now open?
Oldham Co will always hold a special place in my heart. I spent my first 6 years teaching and coaching there. Best place I've been in KY! Hope South gets things turned around and wish the Coach that left the best of luck! Every year starts a new chapter clean slate!

I typed that on my phone so it looks bad. I am also an assistant not the head coach. Losing is tough on everybody. You've got to stick together.

Is South Oldham now open?
I coach and our team went 0-11 last year. We had made a decision to clean house and do things the right way last year. We new it would be tough starting only two Sr's but we knew doing it the right way would give us a solid foundation if we could battle adversity. It was one of the toughest years of my life especially being at my old high school in front of a communitty I grew up in. Time after time I had to pick exhausted kids up off the ground after they had been beaten again. I constantly reminded them the lesson my parents taught me about not giving up. I went through amazing times as a player but also dealt with a coach that played politics in all stars for baseball. My parents would NEVER let me quit anything! It has truly helped me be who I am today. Back to last season there was a ton of pressure and parents readyto fist fight. Some of the verbal stuff was out of control. It truly tested everyones character. This year we stayed the course as coaches in what we believed in and at one point were 12-0! I don't know if that will ever happen again but I do know a few things. The kids that are graduating this year are prepared for life! Most are oozing with character! They have learned to battle adversity. They have learned hard work pays off. They have learned in tough times to lean on God, family, friends and coaches. They will leave our program believing that they can set high goals in life and reach those goals if they have a clear plan + put in the work. They also know life isn't always fair. Had those kids quit when it got tough or had we let the parents take over that wanted too then those kids would not be leaving with these lessons in their head! The same idiot head coach in a lot of parents minds got voted coach of the year in all classes last week by his peers! Parents love him now for some reason. Winning is the cure all. A lot of times there is a much bigger picture than parents understand. Communication is huge but each coach has their own personality and handles it different. IMO the survey is an awful idea. I'm a parent and I'm a coach. I've had a lot of success in both phased in life. It's pretty simple. Let the parents parent their kids and let the coaches coach!
