  1. Pretty sure Lawrence Co and Raceland will be playing again. It was probably the best respect from both sides rivalry I played in during high school. 44-43 game, 3-0 game and another barn burner.
  2. Hunter James has around 450 on 16 carries w 10 total TD's. He's only played 1/2 of 2 games.
  3. We're a run 1st team. Our number 1 tailback is averaging 8 carries a game and number #2 is ave 5 a game. Hardly trying to run it up. Sheldon Clark in 2 weeks then District games. Schedule is a lot tougher out of confrence next year.
  4. I can tell you firsthand LC played all 58 kids the first game of the season. The feature tailback had 6 carries #2 back 4 carries and #3 back 3 carries. They were off the next week. They started subbing on defense the start of the 2nd quarter Fri night but kept the backs in longer because they had basically played 4 quarters in 3 weeks. An int was run back for a TD later in the game and a fumble the young kids forced gave LC the ball back on the 26 yd line. The fullback ran it right up the middle 1 play for the only offensive TD in 4th quarter. The starting tailback had 12 carries. #2 had 5 carries. If the goal these weeks was to run up the score they would be carrying the ball 25 times each. LC was winning about 1 game a year for 4-5 years. Everybody wanted to play them. Part of the big plan when Coach Salmons came in was to lighten the schedule to get the passion back in the program and even more important the kids out of the hallways. We've gone from around 35 kids to around 58 kids. We've gone from 0-11 to 12-1 and now 2-0. The shedule was made on two year contracts when LC was 0-11. I'm pretty sure next year we already have Sheldon Clark, Russell, Prestonsburg and Raceland locked in to take the place of some of these games we aren't bound too. I have mixed emotions. I don't like seeing any kid shown up but I also know how hard the kids have worked here to only play 4.5 quarters total the frist three weeks of the sesason. A good bit of them didn't even play that much. I know for a fact defense was subbing at the start of the 2nd quarter.
  5. So LC wins by 62 after an int for a td and a fullback right up the middle 26yds after a fumble. Subs started going in at the start of the 2nd quarter. Shelby Valley wins 66-0 a couple of weeks ago fake punting and going for 2 in the 4th quarter. Yet those of you running your mouth in this thread never said anything about that. Schedule wise people need to realize that LC averaged about 2 wins a season 4 of the last 5 years. The schedule was beyond brutel and the program was a mess. The Super was sueing the school. The state department breathing down teachers neck etc. It's a commuitty that has 1 thing and that's football. One part of a really big master plan was to lighten tge schedule. Winning is a cure all. LC has road the winning momentum and not only gotten tons of kids out of the hallways but also won the town back. Zero doubt the lighter schedule helped build that momentum. The curse is it was 2 year deals and LC isn't the 0-11 program it was when the contracts were signed. Sheldon Clark is 2 weeks away and last years LC/SC was down to the wire one of the most physical high school games I've ever been around. So 3 weeks of starters playing only 1/2 is setting up for failure plus lc only has 2 kids playing both ways. All 58 kids dressed played in last weeks game and tge majority in this one. Off only scored once (on turnover + fullback up the middle 26yds in 1 play). I understand both sides in this one and have mixed emotions. The good news is contracts are up and I'm about positive LC already has Prestonsburg, Russell, Sheldon Clark and Raceland lined up out of confrence next year.
  6. I still think SC is better than people realize. They have a brutal schedule leading up to District. I look for them to suprise people in the playoffs.
  7. West-Loan Oak East-Johnson Central Lville-Central Lex-LCA North-?
  8. Chris Hutt (Marshall), Juan Thomas (Arz St and 3A baseball stuck behind Frank Thomas,John Olraude and Edger Martinez) and Charles Johnson another huge talented back. They were loaded in the backfield!
  9. How many times has Ballard beaten St X in the last 20 years?
  10. I love the call to go for 2! Congrats X on the win and congrats to Ballard on earning statewide respect tonight!
  11. Interesting point Jim. I've been lucky enough to coach in Lville, Lex and Eastern KY. I think to speak to your point one reason a lot of these programs are so good is because the great programs get great players. Take a program like Highlands. There are a lot of good schools in NKY with some good football. From what I've seen if you grow up in a family that had Dad's and Grandparents that went to Highlands then you are a "cake eater" at birth. When you have no real loyalties talent tends to flock to winning programs so the rich get richer.
  12. I also wasn't at the state championship where the kid threw the ball up in the air in the endzone to celebrate in the most contraverisal call in state championship history. Seems like it was 1A or 2A game. Heard that one was wild.
  13. I wasn't at that one but I've heard it was a heck of a game. Was that the one were Ledger dominated?
  14. There's a bunch but the 1st few that come to mind in no order: *Trinity/Male State Championship that's been mentioned. Like RP said huge build up and it lived up to the hype. I think I'll forever have that memory etched in my mind as my dad and I bundled up and just continued shaking our heads throughout that game. It was awesome on that stage! *This years Boyle/Loan Oak game. My old coach was coaching at Boyle and his son was the QB. I had the opportunity to coach his son before he moved away after his Soph year. I was his QB coach so the bond between him + me plus his dad + me is pretty special for me. We came so close when I was in high school to winning the state championship for the 1st time in our school history but always fell just short in some Cinderella seasons. A bunch of the old guys I played with got together and made the drive to BG to see our coach finally get to coach on the carpet. His son scored 5 TD's that game including the game winner in 2bl OT. We all pulled Coach up into the stands with us (now easy task lol) and that was once again one of those forever moments. I'm 35 now and we were all crying lol. *Lawrence Co/Breathitt 1997. LC was a heavy underdog and broke Breathitt's 42 game win streak. Mother nature helped out some that night but the Dogs came ready to play. Still the only game I've ever been too in high school where the fans broke down the goal post lol. I was lucky to be an assistant in that game. *Lawrence Co/Russell 1991 Regional Semis. Russell had smoked LC by around 40 at LC earlier in the year. Papers had LC close to a 40 point dog at Russell. LC lost their starting QB that week. The defense showed up in a big way. The end of regulation..6 to 6. Both teams scored in OT then Russell kicked a FG in 2OT. LC scored a TD on 2 plays. Biggest win at the time in school history. Assistant coached died that Monday morning getting ready for school so it was a very emotional time. The next week LC stops Mason Co on the 3 yd line to go to first ever final 4. Longest travel playoff game in history of the state. We went all the way to Mayfield where once again we were about a 40 points dog. Final score of final 4 21-18 on a late William Murrell punt return. I was lucky enough to play then. *Craziest last 30 seconds probably ever. LC vs Flemming 1992 Regional Semis. LC beat Flemming earlier in the year pretty good. Flemming was up with around 30 secs left and just had to take a knee. Instead Junior Marshall is thrown out of bounds on a run by Lee Abshire forcing a punt with LC down 4 + no timeouts. LC rushed 11 and the punter kicked the ball into his upback. LC gets the ball around the 50 with 9 secs left. We practiced the hook and latteral all year and it never worked one time in practice. The play comes into the huddle and the QB doesn't even know what it is. We tell him to throw the hitch to Jason Wells. He does then Wells pitches to Abshire who outruns everybody into the endzone to win the Regional Semis! That game is why you never give up! It was my SR year and I'll never forget all my friends crying in the huddle thinking our magical run together was finally over. *I pulled into the parking lot of the Lex Cath/Franklin game. I saw the score and left. Once again that's why you always play! *Lex Cath at Highlands 95. Lex Cath shuts out Highlands on their own field on Thanksgiving Day. I've won a lot of games but that one was pretty sweet. Coach Letton did one heck of a job that game along with Ben Revere. *I didn't see these tow but have heard them talked about often: 1. Prestonsburg upseting Danville at Danville to go to state. 2. Russell/Breathitt several years ago in the playoffs. Don't remember the year but it was a barn burner.
  15. Congrats to the Stangs on starting the season with a bang!
  16. Wish it was too but it was made out in 2 year deals when we were 0-11. Got this from another guy: Lawrence only allowed 16 total yards in the first half and ended up with 87 and all but 16 was on the JV and freshman. Kiser was 3 0f 5 for 105 and 2 TDS and Cyrus was 1 0f 1 for 25 yards. James - 6 carries for 176 5 TDS Bentley 4 carries for 117 1TDS J. Marcum 3 carries 11 1TD 31 2 carries 20 yards 8 1 carry 13 yards 6 1 carry 7 yards Blake the Hammer Prince had on carry for about 13 yard TD Cole Cyrus had 1 rec for TD Kyle Crum had 1 TD catch as well. James might not get a lot of pub around the state because of the lack of media around here. He is the real deal and one of the better backs in the state. All those yards came in the 1st half. He actually had another long TD called back.
  17. Great preview. I've had the opportunity to coach Turner O'Brian (safety at Lawrence Co) for 4 years now. One of the best all around kids I've coached in my 13 or so years coaching. He led us in tackles last year. He's placed high in the state track competitions. He's been a leader in our church and he spent the summer at Govenor's Scholar. Really proud of him! Behind Winston Guy (Lex Cath/UK) he's the best safety I've been around on the teams I've been a part of.
  18. Got to play Perry Central's today.I was very impressed with their inside backer. He had really nice size and was sideline to sideline. Probably the best inside backer I've seen the past two years outside of Roller last year at Highlands.
  19. Between coaching in Louisville, Lex and Eastern KY I can vouch that it is up there as one of the best. The whole atmosphere is just awesome. Cups in the fence leading up. Color coded Red tops on the buildings that match the field. Fans are close to the field. Usually when we play there both teams are really good and both bring huge crowds. It's what Fri nights are all about IMO. Ashlands Putnam Stadium has a lot of character too. It's probably my favorite old stadium.
  20. Probably the best skill set Rowan Co has ever had. Wing was named a top 5 Jr prospect in the state at QB. Cross is a top 5-10 RB. Hodge is underrated. They have a Freshman that is a beast. Rowan has a load of talent this year.
  21. 7-Knox Central 5-Shelby Valley 3-Belfry 2-Letcher County Central 1-Johnson Central TB Knox
  22. Sean Peyton's (Saints Head Coach) at the start is my favorite part along with the Coach's dad that didn't get to see him play.
  23. John Dudley (Bell Co) and Blake Bradley(Lawrence Co) are the best two I've seen in person coming back this year.
  24. Nice to see former KY coaches like Lex Cath's Bob Sphire and crew ranking at #46 at North Gwinett.
