Kentucky's top football players '12

A way early look at a few names of football prospects to remember from the Class of 2012 from across the state of Kentucky.

I am listing a few names of the top prospects in the class.

This class is shaping up to be a nice and talented one with a number of prospects on track to perhaps signing with a Division I school.

I am sure this list will grow as the season goes on.

Hunter Bowles, Glasgow, QB-LB, 6-4, 220

Jalen Boyd, Western, DB, 6-1, 185

Travis Elliott, Ryle, RB, 5-11, 175

Josh Harris, Mason County, RB, 6-1, 175

Russell Hayden, Owensboro Catholic, RB, 5-9, 190

Scooter Hollis, Bowling Green, QB, 6-0, 165

Jerrett Ingram, Bowling Green, DT, 5-11, 250

Joseph Jamerson, Prestonsburg, WR-DB, 6-3, 175

As far as NKY is concerned, Pike is huge but Elliott already has a year of varsity football under his belt...and if either of those kids are under 200 pounds I would be really surprised.

No suprise but the list is dominated by skill position players. Its very tough for a lineman or linebacker to make an impact as a freshman due to the physicality of the positions. I'm sure we'll see several at those positions added to the list.

Two players to watch at Beechwood are Cameron Vocke, RB, and Joe Staten. Staten is starting at LB as a Soph and that doesn't happen very often at Beechwood. Vocke has that Barry Sanders like stop, cut and immediately back to speed style. The Highlands freshman team from last year can testify to it.

He may be an excellent running back but I do not believe for a minute that he has Barry Sanders ability to cut. Sorry not buying it.

The Miller kid out of Henry Clay should of been on this list! Unreal WR with great hands and excellent speed! You will hear alot about him in the near future. (2012 kid)

Is that Vinny?

Have you seen Vocke play? I am very objective in what I say about players and I don't exagerate. I am NOT saying he is another Barry Sanders. That is ludicrous at this point in time. But I am saying that is part of Vocke's style and he is one of the best I have seen at it in high school in quite a while. He carved up the Highlands freshman team last year with this style in the championship game. I believe he had 4 TD runs in that game and most of them were made with great cuts and explosive speed out of the cut. That being said, he is just a sophomore but he merits watching.
