Reminds me of those old P'burg/Belfry battles that you were an intregal part of in the years past! The ball didn't BOUNCE your way and will always live with those losses. Just adds a little more meaning to the game in 2 weeks at CAM Stadium. Bad blood began in pre-game with #2 giving the Pirates the middle finger as they came off the field after warming up their kickers, etc. The Pirate players were focused at that point but that action took the intensity level up. Thanks again for the extra motivation 2 years in a row !!! The white hat (Ref.) took to much verbal abuse before the one kickoff. The coach really made him look bad.

Nice try Coach, new jersey or not, the few of us that witnessed it all still feel that the opposing team should not have been lined up at the endzone / goal-line facing the Pirates locker room which is just a few feet away. Pond Creekers feel that there is plenty enough room anywhere else on the field to meet with your team. Or was it just the case of a new coach in town trying to add some spice to an already heated county rivalry? I guess that Panther fans and the team would have reacted differently (and forgot about it over the span of a year) if the Pirates would have done something like this, I don't think so !!! But then again you were new to the rivalry.:thumb: :thumb:

Will the Pirates remember the Panther's pre-game attempt at intimidating them from last year? Harmon is a dandy running back.

What would you be typing if the Pirates would have lost to NCC? 4-1 is a hell of a lot better than 3-2 !!!!!!!!!!!! To beat the defending state champs of any class in the first game of the next year is a good win for anyone. Is it the Pirates fault that NCC has not won very many games this year?

If the Red Devils go into the season with this as an objective (and I do not think that the staff will) they may not be able to focus on the ultimate goal (another state championship). The gameplans must be a win first attitude and if a Mr. Football award comes along with the wins then that is icing on the cake for the Red Devils and Clark.

Was in Mt. Sterling yesterday eye-balling a used car for daughter and stopped at Old Silo to look around. Very, very impressed with the condition of the course,the friendliness, and help received by the pro-shop staff. Trying to get trip planned in near future to play here !!!

Who is the new coaching addition and his background ?

Look for the Pirates to try to keep non-district games with P'burg, Pikeville, Ashland, Lawrence Co. and try to pick up Letcher Co. The other 2, who knows !!!!

Possible starting QB broke leg and ankle in a 4-wheeler accident. He was also a starter at corner for the Pirates.

JCHS will travel to Pond Creek and the Pirates will go to Hazard to scrimmage.

Belfry will be scrimmaging Johnson Central on Aug. 4th and Hazard on Aug. 11th.

A Pirate fan would like to think that Coach Haywood will stay at Belfry until he himself decides it is time to go and under his own terms. It could be 1, 5, or 10 years down the road. Who knows? A bit of advice for all Pirate fans, ENJOY his outstanding character, knowledge of the game, and guidance that he gives to young people !!! He is one of the very few CLASSY head coaches that are left in the game of high school football. As to the question of what happens when he does decide to retire, it will be an interesting situation. There is a LOT of uncertainty in the leadership of the Pike Co School System at the present time. Who knows what will happen and there will be 2 gigantic shoes to fill walking on the BHS sideline !!!!! Let's just hope that there will be 3 or MORE championship rings on his finger when he does decide to call it quits !!!!

Belfry will be there on the 17th of June.

The merger has already messed up a lot of schedules for a bunch of schools ! There are a lot of programs looking to fill a spot on their schedule because of this decision.
