  1. Bryan Station returns a ton of talented players and will be among the most athletic teams in Lexington area this year vs. a Harlan County team that year in and year out is among the top teams in 5a and will bring their typical hard nosed offense and defense into game one. Both Murray and Madison Central are under completely new coaching staffs and excitement is high around both programs. Don't think you will be the least bit disappointed with your trip to Richmond! Should be a very exciting Saturday of High School Football!
  2. Quite Honestly, if I'm Berea I sit really quiet and hope no one notices. Then find someone to help foot the transportation bill and go for it. Only logical place would be district 7 and couple of those are long hauls too.
  3. There are lots of Coaches that get a ton out of their kids on the field. I feel like most of these also get it out of them off the field as well. Character Coaches make a difference.
  4. Talk about a thread with potential for Epic proportions.... and this PSW thread as well as the Whitley thread have been pretty special to follow.
  5. At face value, and I understand only those interviewing knows what they want. However if the names on this list are in fact interviewing for this position it would seem to be a 2 horse race. I mean, no offense to anyone, but how could you not offer a veteran head coach who has a couple state championships on his resume, or an experienced head coach who has been very successful as a head coach throughout his career, in favor of a couple of unknown up and coming assistants and a handful of middle school coaches? It just doesn't make sense.
  6. I believe that would be classified as "bullying", Sir.... LoL
  7. This may be one of the best punchlines I've ever read on BGP! Thank you ATL for giving me a laugh that I needed that today.
  8. It can be found on the KHSAA website. The original rule this year was supposed to be a 2 game suspension but that was revised apparently and because of the relative length of season of Football it was amended to 1 game suspension for football. This excerpt from the document: (8) Following the day of ejection, there shall be a minimum two additional games/ meets/contests suspension for any participant ejected from a contest with the exception of football, due to the comparative shortness of the football season. In football, there shall be a minimum one additional game suspension for any player ejected from a contest. Document found at KHSAA website: http://khsaa.org/schools/dqpolicy.pdf
  9. This is actually more appropriate for a different thread but Estill will be in the mix I believe. Trevor Jones is a difference maker and if they can stay healthy and catch a couple breaks, Estill will be a pretty solid team. Bourbon should be head and shoulders at the top based on experience and athletes, but we are a long way from the 1st week of November and it will be interesting to see how the season plays out. By the way, Catspause previews at Walgreens, Joseph Beth, Kroger, and probably Walmart if not already, then soon.
  10. SodFather you are exactly correct concerning Bourbon Co. Based on last years results they have to be the odds on favorite in this region. Hopefully by the time Garrard meets the Colonels GC will have some of their questions answered.
  11. Looks like Glasgow returns virtually everyone from last years Semi Final team. Coach Wood always has them ready to play. Should be good year for Glasgow.
  12. Harry, typically I agree with most everything I read of yours, but this one I can see from a different perspective. I think not playing a District team in week 10 is a good idea. It was more relevant a few years ago. I believe the not playing in-district week 10 was implemented after the fiasco a few years back when they toyed with the playoffs and had teams play in-district during the 1st round. I remember for a couple years there it seemed like a lot of teams faced off week 10 and then turned around and played again 1st round. At any rate it allows for playoff pairings and planning to have an extra week to prepare in most all cases except for a few tie breaker situations that arise each year, and this is good for both the schools and the teams. While I agree most teams don't want a slobber knocker week 10, most teams heading into the playoffs with a pretty good team also don't want a roll over week 10 either. I suppose it goes along the same lines as some coaches like to keep that week 10 slot OPEN and use it as a week to prepare for 1st round while others like to play and stay sharp. There are advantages to both and really it depends on the coaching staff and kids in the program and the mental approach to either path chosen.... A couple more points on this thread/topic and then I'll move on. 1st I don't know why some teams wait to schedule games so late in the game. I think that is the main thing leading to these teams having difficulty scheduling. I have heard that Madison Southern is actually promoting their 9 game schedule as a good thing as they will have an "extra" open week during the season. Oh and on the 6 Class System and 1st Round Blowouts, The dirty little secret that Mike Fields and the few others who keep on that topic don't like to look at is, there have always been the fair share of 1st round blowouts and some very good football games thrown in there as well. Under the 4 class system, there were less because there were fewer 1st round games. Years ago when they only took the top 2 teams from each district, there were even fewer.
  13. Coach McGlone is an absolute Legend. He and the staff at Russell lead the consummate Program. It is very impressive to witness the true respect and loyalty of those in the program to Coach McGlone. To me, in this day, that says a lot about the individuals in the Russell Program. Well written Coach Buchanan and you have an excellent reputation and Program at Mason County in your own right.
  14. Is the Danville staff finalized yet and if so, who is on staff and what are the roles. In this day, a Head Coach has to have a solid staff around him if the program is going to succeed. The days of "a staff of one" are over.
  15. The more that comes out about Breathitt, the more this stuff sounds bad...
  16. While Lincoln County returns a nice group of key players both on the lines & in the backfield, so does North Laure, Madison Southern & Pulaski Co. Will be interesting to see what LC's out of district schedule looks like.
  17. I guess that is exactly why I thought there might be more action around it. Not that the State coming in would be any indicator that sports and clubs are going to get more or less attention/support. Honestly, that could go either way if the leadership that the state puts in place has a grasp of how important extracurricular activities are to a successful high school. However, many times when the state comes in there are many changes made on the teaching level. From that standpoint, if new blood were to come in and also be able to coach, that might be a recipe for change. I have no dog in the fight, but I do think what ultimately happens with Breathitt County will be a big story over the next few years in athletics, particularly football. If &when Coach Moore is named as Head Coach, no doubt he'll do a solid job as he seems to have certainly earned that opportunity. Going to be tough for anyone to follow Holcomb at Breathitt, but in the mold of Eviston at Newport Catholic and some other cases, perhaps a successful former player can expand on the tradition of winning.
  18. Has Kyle Moore in fact been named Head Coach. I'm surprised this opening is not drawing more attention & conversation.
  19. Wayne County is returning a tremendous amount of talented players from a team that was one of the best in school history this past season. They took State Champ Central to the wire and continue an upward trend. Coach Thompson has done an outstanding job with the Wayne County program and the success they are having now is well deserved.
  20. Joking aside, I think GURU should see if he can get Coach Smith to sit down & do a live stream webcast interview to answer the questions everyone wants to know. If this thread is any indicator, it'd be worth the time.
