  1. If I understood the proposal correctly, this 2 year decision is simply a course correction because of the way numbers were calculated with the Covid situation. The thought process was 2 years from now they should have 4 years worth of data to look at and then go back to the “normal” 4 year alignment with the mid point adjustment if needed.
  2. QB spot will get the most attention as to who steps up and obtains that role but just as important to team success will be replacing a lot of key guys on that OL & DL. The pair of Waddle and Niece at LB made for an extremely solid middle of the defense. Estill will miss Waddle. Name of the game is keep moving forward. Big off-season for the Engineers.
  3. It is O-vie (long O). Coach Canady was also the Head Coach at Evarts HS (his alma mater) the last couple years the school was open prior to consolidation. He then became the D.C. for Coach Larkey at Harlan County before accompanying Larkey to Perry Central. Coach Canady is a hard worker and intelligent fellow, but most of all he is very dedicated to his players and in turn they are dedicated to him. Best of Luck to him and PCC! Lastly, I do not think he is related to the Knox Central Canadys.
  4. Another private school option for Lexington area students that will almost assuredly start out in Class A Football. This will be interesting to watch.
  5. Coverdale? That would definitely be a splash...
  6. If my research is correct the last KY team not named St X or Male to beat the Rocks was Dixie Heights in the 2004 2nd Round of Playoffs. Is that correct? Last regular season defeat to KY team other than those 2 was Seneca early in 2003?
  7. This, every word of it. Will impact MANY public schools.
  8. Also, one last point to Bluegrasscard's very good post above... While all the Lex Schools are on turf & have nice fields, as do many schools now. Everyone I know that has a turf field has to share it to some extent, I would be willing to place a hefty wager on the fact that Band, Soccer or some other activity is NOT on the field during a Football Practice at T or X. (Or anywhere that supports their program even a little for that matter.)
  9. I agree with everything in your post with the exception of one point. While the Advantages may not be inherent they are in my opinion systemic. Your points about Fr/JV level at T & X, and the benefits gained are spot on as well.
  10. Yes, & that’s why the financial impact of support has to be considered. Particularly for Football, which there is cost involved. Look at what Scott County has put into Athletics at their one HS in recent years. 2 turf practice fields on campus. An amazing weight room/field house building, etc etc. Will be interesting to see how new HS impacts that long term. As for Lex, FDHS is getting a lot now because leaders are striking while funding is available to the new school using those resources. 3 years from now will they still be able to put money toward that school the way they are now? Time will tell but the larger the public district the more the “if we do for one we must do for the other” mentality becomes an issue. As for Boone County, take a look at the level of success before the opening of the other schools until now.... This is where T & X truly have an advantage. They can support Football specifically at a higher level than a public school can. Which is a reason why people are attracted to them in a sense. This same thing would be true if we were talking about a great Biology Department, or Foriegn Language Studies or Club Sports or whatever a particular Private school might want to really support in a serious way. A private school can and will be run in a different way than a public school. It is the very reason why some people desire to send their child to private schools, No?
  11. Perhaps this is true, but more accurately if a public school could have a male enrollment population of 1100-1200 to match X & T it might not be relevant either. However an all male public school couldn’t happen, so the overall school population would likely have to be in the 2500 student range to reach that level of male population. Then from a financial standpoint the schools monetary resources would be significantly more spread out than the 1200 student sized all male population school.
  12. Don’t forget to factor in how KHSAA will handle the addition of the new HS in Scott Co... 6A / 5A borderline could be very interesting group to look at.
  13. I know. And honest to goodness I agree with you. When I was typing that it made sense in my mind but perhaps didn't come out exactly the way I wanted. I do feel like that no matter how many ways we look at splitting up football classes, populations divisions, districts, regions or what ever, the tendency is to always look out for what works out best for "me and mine" as opposed to what is good for the sport. In other words, what I shared at top was a way to look at what I believe to be the root of all the different conflicting opinions that have led to all the different concepts over the years. The public/private debate. I honestly think what we would find if the public/private thing ever did happen is a new gap would form. The gap of true financial support. The gap of which public school systems value athletics as a major part of their educational process and are willing (and able) to financially support it, and which ones just want to offer sports and have teams. Not everyone should win a trophy. Sometimes the value of the lesson in not getting a reward might be the Lord's way of teaching you how to prepare for a larger reward down the road... Life Lessons. Hi-yo Silver.....
  14. This really feels like the horse has been beaten to death a dozen times.... People talk about everyone getting into the playoffs waters it down, but we have some very competitive 2/3 games and 2 4 seeds won this year. People talk about blowouts in 1st round. There are blowouts in 1st round of many other sports post season tournaments. People say 6 classes is the problem but I'm old enough to remember when 4 classes was the problem. Actually old enough to remember when they expanded playoffs to 4 teams getting in and you know what? Football has been growing for 25 years.... You want to fix football playoffs for real? I'm gonna say it and probably get ridiculed for it. But take care of what the argument has really been over for all these years. Split the Playoffs. 4 Public School Classes, distributed as evenly as possible by enrollment (4 population divisions) & 2 Private School classes Large Division & Small Division (2 population divisions). Heck I'd even allow an option for "realignment" every 4 years like we do now & allow public teams the option to play in the private division if they choose for a 4 year cycle as long as they played in the appropriate population division. I haven't broken down the number of teams that would be in each class but feel certain Public School Districts would be around 5-6 teams per district with 4 Regions Geographically Split. Private Districts would likely be 4 team districts. Let everyone in playoffs in the Private Division. Take top 4 teams from Districts in Public Divisions. Could even do something pretty cool at the conclusion of the season at pit the Large School Public State Champion vs the Large School Private State Champion. Kinda harkens back to the old Greater Louisville Champion & the At Large State Champion. I don't know. I do believe that there is a way to continue to improve our HS football. I think it is important to continue to improve it. I believe very important lessons are still taught on HS football fields. The game is under attack from many angles. We should do everything possible to make sure we don't harm the sport from within.
  15. It was Scott Co freshman vs what was supposed to be a freshman/sophomore team for Douglass. Scott Co JV will play Male Saturday.
  16. And at this point, with this population/pound for pound info established, is where this study can go even further. Understanding that the common sense argument would be more people/more talent/more production. However that in some areas also means more schools. More schools means resources & support are either spread thinner in the interest of "fair", or a "haves vs have nots" situation. So is MORE actually LESS? In some cases I'd argue yes. Boyle County makes sense at 1 because you have 2 consistently high performing schoools. Pulaski should similarly rank well. But in a larger county with several schools is the success spread out or centralized among a few? After that, comes perhaps the Why Answers.
  17. Realizing this doesn't make hardly an ounce of difference but there have been 3 Region Final appearances for Madison County schools since 2000. (Madison Southern 2013, Madison Central 2004 & 2003). This is a really interesting piece of work & im excited to read more from @ATLCat. I believe what you see will demonstrate the importance of solid consistency in programs from top to bottom in these areas. I believe you will see counties/programs with strong consistent feeder programs at the youth & middle school levels feeding programs with established consistency in the high school programs move toward the top. I believe you will also see the haves vs the have nots in how the programs are financially supported being revealed. I am interested to see how the private schools are incorporated into the equation. I presume they will be lumped in the county they reside in as the independents have been. I am interested to see the amount of coaching turnover & how if at all that trends in this breakdown. Thanks for your work on this.
  18. There will be many more. The young man is an heck of a player, and has the size to attract the big schools.
  19. They should immediately ask Josh Jaggers what it would take for him to be Head Coach again, and within reason, provide it.
  20. On that line of thinking, what is a fair price for admission to a Bowl. Typically Double Header, perhaps other events & attractions going on & keeping in mind it is a fundraising event typically.
  21. Absolutely understand that. And that being said I'm going to encourage our Bowl commitee to include a student & child rate for entry. While the overall concept of a flat rate price is good for many reasons, It isn't exactly family friendly.
