  1. Bowl games in virtually every HS situation I know of serve another purpose than just highlighting programs and (hopefully) providing good games & chance to see different teams. They also serve a a primary fundraiser for the host program or school. I know in many cases it may be the one week a season that the gate & concession money goes to the football team. In some cases the Bowl may benefit the entire athletic program as it does with the Bob Allen Pigskin Classic in Danville & some others. At any rate while I would agree it is tough to pay exorbitant prices to see HS sports, it can be a very good way to support your local HS program & enjoy the time spent a lot more than baking that cookie dough or Little Ceasars Pizza kit.
  2. August 19 Madison Southern vs ML Collins - 5:30 Madison Central vs Lexington Catholic - 8:00
  3. Roy Kidd Bowl Aug 19 Madison Southern vs Collins HS Madison Central vs Lexington Catholic
  4. If the past is any indication, April or May at best. This job has been open several times in recent past. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but don't recall it ever being before that time of year.
  5. Until the privates become a dominant in basketball as they have been in 6A football, (and at times middle classes i.e. LexCath, OCath etc) it will not be a topic that gets addressed although it will always be a hot topic. Private schools do have an advantage. From the way they can assign and pay their coaches to the they can draw players from unassigned boundaries. (Please note I said draw & not Recruit, many kids & parents seek opportunity to attend private schools). T & X with their size make it nearly impossible to make a purely Private Class. If I were at LCA for instance, I would not like the idea of facing T for a shot State Title. Now back to my original point, let the private schools reach dominant status in basketball & it will be addressed. Just my honest opinion. No disrespect meant to anyone.
  6. That was fun. Could be some good debate perhaps on which of these teams have best shot at removing themselves from this list in near future.
  7. I thought sure Berea won a District under Mike Elkin in the early 80s.
  8. How about Morgan County? Also gonna take a shot with Bath County, East Carter & Grant Co...
  9. Landon White - Routinely puts his Kickoffs out the back of the Endzone.
  10. Easy folks.... Let's not make a fire where there is none.
  11. This was great! Should definitely be nominated for All Time BGP. Nicely done ATL!
  12. ATLCat, you are da man! With each additional post you surely gain a fan. It takes work & guts to roll out these predictions, Perhaps across the Bluegrass it will stir young men's convictions. When Turkey Day comes we should all re-visit your fame. All will say betwixt now & then... "That's why you play the game."
  13. The point that I think Coach Meyer & others are trying to get to is that the quickly emerging 7on7 (AAU football) scene, as well as the various scouting service combines & camps put on by 3rd parties (including those ran by Rivals, Scout & even NIKE ironic as that is) are not the answer to "getting recruited". He even mentions "The Opening" by name. I believe the point being made is many young athletes & the people advising them seem to think "Star Ratings" will get you recruited, when in fact the services running those events wont issue "stars" until the player is being recruited. It's really a situation of, is the Tail wagging the Dog? It seems to me the message is to put the emphasis back in becoming the very best player that the kid can be for his high school team, which clearly will help him become the very best player he can be for himself as an individual. When that happens, if the young man ends up being one of the 6% that get to play at the next level, he will be recruited by someone and find a place to play. There is a place for the combines & camps, but they are becoming the focal point as opposed to the tool that they should be used as. Sooner or later, a player has to produce on the field. No matter the stars or the numbers beside their name. Go be the best player you can be for your high school team, put film down that is worthy of attention, then show what you can do at a camp where the people who are able to offer scholarships are actually at, don't rely on such & such Combine or Service to "Rate" you & then send a spreadsheet out with your numbers. 3rd parties are making bank at the expense of a bunch of kids dreaming big dreams. Which again is fine is you take it for what it's worth. But as best I know, NIKE, Scout, Rivals, or any of the others have yet to offer a scholarship to anyone.
  14. OL Blake Hammonds - Madison Central 6-3 315lbs Class of 2018. HUDL Link: Sophomore Highlight - Blake Hammonds highlights - Hudl
  15. Simply put, I believe you lost any hope of credibility by posting this. Rains took a team that was not competitive at beginning of season & came within seconds of beating State Runner Up Lafayette & their 10 D1 caliber players twice & Scott Co who has consistently been power in this side of 6A for last 10 years. It is ok to disagree with PLDs hire or disagree with how Rains did things. But to say he wasn't a good coach and the new guy is doomed to fail shows a negative approach to your "support" of that program.
  16. Coaches nominate players via the KFCA website. Then they go through selection process. I'm uncertain of specifics.
  17. Coach Poynter will have Bath County very competitive very soon. Congrats to him.
  18. ChiefSmoke & some others may be more able to relate specific stories and instances, however I can say with certainty that I've had coaches from every level of college football in my office at one time or another to discuss young men & their opportunity to participate beyond HS. It is without fail that one of the first 2 questions a coach asks in the initial meeting is, May I see an unofficial transcript & has he taken the ACT yet. Just about every kid that walks into HS sports has a dream of playing collegiate or higher. We start in the meeting prior to their freshman year about how important the transcript is & the grades they post as a freshman will be with them when they leave. Unfortunately far to many times I still see kids mislead by any number of adults & peers that lead them to believe if the talent is there that's all it takes. The common scenario is a kid that overestimates his athletic ability & underestimates the necessity for academic success. I've seen kids have opportunity come along that otherwise would not have because they were strong academically. I've seen others have opportunity pass them by because they were not strong academically. Bottom line, 4.0 is the magic number. The closer your GPA & 40 Time is to 4.0 the better your chances at college athletics.
  19. I'm gonna step out on limb here and say he is taking it because he feels he can make them competitive in new region realignment: District 7 – Breathitt County, Estill County, Knott County Central, Magoffin County, Morgan County, Powell County District 8 – Bell County, Casey County, Corbin, Jackson County, McCreary Central Perhaps he sees an opportunity? Or could be a spot to be head coach until something else comes along... But that just doesn't seem right. Lots of jobs open if that is case.
  20. ASB- I'm uncertain. Last I heard he may just be teaching at Creek and sitting out this year.
  21. Tates Creek also in 6a. Harmon out, interim Antione Sims in.
  22. Heck of a player. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few more offers roll in. Although I think Trevor would be an excellent fit at Morehead. Good luck to him!
