Who? Division III of the NKAC consists of: Bellevue, Dayton, Ludlow, Silver Grove (no team this year on the girls side), Calvary Christian, Villa Madonna, and Heritage Academy. Teams play each other twice.

On the bolded, doesn't make me feel any better, I just wanted a closer comparison if we're going to throw out numbers. 2:1 is closer to accurate, like five times closer, than 10:1 so I can live with that. Comparing apples to apples, it's not 2:1 but it's close enough that I can live with it. Comparing Beechwood and CPS schools isn't apples to apples, and still not 10:1. Poor comparison. Your enrollment point is valid to a degree however. The Lakota's of the world are certainly bigger than any school in NKY, and I agree the numbers may help. Of course, Lexington has schools bigger than our 6A schools, and it doesn't seem to work out too well for them. So I think there's more to it than just enrollment. As far as an emphasis on athletics in Ohio v NKY, I'm not buying that. Many NKY schools have better facilities than many like sized Ohio schools, and NKY kids have every opportunity to play sports from the time they start losing baby teeth.

I feel ya. Something like the bolded could force a school to play a kid in his ninth semester. Seriously, the Northwest Local School District doesn't accept any tuition students? Colerain has never had a football transfer? Northwest high has never lost kids to Colerain just because of football?

I'd say the game was closer than the final score, except that Moeller had a TD called back in the second quarter for an illegal man downfield. Failed to score on the drive as a result. 7-0 at half. X was in the game until the last four minutes, but I never had a sense they were going to make a push to win the game after the first series. First series goes 18 plays and kills the first nine minutes of the game, but X comes up with zero points after failing on a fourth down attempt. If I'm Specht I likely kick the field goal there and take the early points. But, X had converted two fourth downs earlier in the drive and it was a fourth and short.

Crazy state time. Since 2008 (Rodenberg's second year) Moeller is 66-2 when leading or tied going into the fourth quarter. That's crazy because of the schedule Moeller plays each year.

The bolded is a very strong possibility. I called a Dayton team out of this region in week 4, just wasn't sure if it would be Wayne or Centerville. Moeller is playing very well in the playoffs though, so I'm hedging my bet a bit. Not ready to count them out of this one. Could be a dandy.

FWIW, CovCath lost two games last year, one was to Fairfield (Ohio). Get the idea?

The Hoge play began with one of the best fake's I have ever seen. Awesome job selling the fake and literally had CovCath kids doing a 180. That made the play a success. After that, Hoge showed great start and stop and change of direction. Great athleticism. I was impressed that the Highlands blockers stayed with the play and made it down field late in the run. Excellent high school play. It did appear as though the CovCath defenders were playing flag football though. They kept reaching with one hand out.

My take: I'm not sure a program with five state titles in 27 years while playing in the same class as Highlands is looking for any moral victories. That said, there are "good losses," and "bad wins," in every sport. Every game is a measuring stick of your team and how you played. Your team's actual score may not be on the board. I'm not sure I'd qualify this as either for either team though. CovCath scored two late touchdowns to narrow the margin, but never had the ball with a chance to win. Highlands ended the game with the ball deep in CovCath territory, and had there been more time left would have almost assuredly scored again. Could say more, but best not.

Lancers are certainly the favorites to win D-II at this point, but no big surprise to anyone who has seen them play. Very good D-II team, better than the Loveland team that won it last year. That said, I'm not so sure they're the best team in Ohio. Running the D-II gauntlet and running the D-I gauntlet two very different things. Could they beat anyone on a given night, sure. Could they beat five quality D-I teams in a row, see St. X loss. Score doesn't surprise me, and I based it partially on the Owls game with Beechwood. No disrespect to Beechwood, but a state championship caliber D-II Ohio school isn't holding on for its life against a Kentucky class A school. Again, that's not a knock on Beechwood at all, it just showed me the Lancers and Owls were different animals.

I know where Graves County is, but know nothing about their football program. Huge upset, huge congrats to the Eagles. I'm guessing this opens things up considerably in 5A the next two weeks. Congrats to Bowling Green on the run they had. This loss shows just how impressive the runs Trinity, Highlands, Beechwood, and Boyle had in the past really were. Prior to reading this thread, I had no idea Graves County high was only 30ish years old; that it was a consolidation of six high schools; or that none of those six had football teams. Excellent stuff. :thumb: The kind of info I love getting on BGP.

Nice feat, of course three of the classes were locks to be from NKY going into the week. Only surprise to me was Cooper. And that was more the margin than the outcome. I don't think anyone around the state has ever disputed that NKY is among the best football in the state, top to bottom. Obviously Louisville area is loaded as well. Coincidentally, those are the two biggest metro area's in the state (counting Boone, Kenton, and Campbell as a metro area). Along those lines, I can't think of another area that has five high schools in five different classes within 15 miles of each other. So NKY may be the only area able to pull this off. Lastly, Highlands and Cooper MIGHT be 15 miles apart. But if you can get from one to the other in less than 30 minutes you are pulling of a neat trick.

I could say a ton on the subject and on the posts in the thread. Some very good posts, others a bit misguided or hypocritical, IMO. Instead, just to the bolded. Bear didn't get fired for punching a player, he retired from Alabama. Woody Hayes lost his job for punching a Clemson player.

Newport v Ncc could be a really good game. Toughest game to call of the NKY games. Simon Kenton v Dixie will have a great crowd and great atmosphere. Get there early or I imagine it'll be tough to find a good sight line. Dixie by two scores. Upset wouldn't shock me though. Highlands v CovCath still brings out fans of both teams, though not like it used to. Highlands rolls in this one. Beechwood v Frankfort, someone said running clock in this one. May be the best prediction in the thread. Beechwood by a lot.

LaSalle and Mt. Healthy play at Mason that night. Thought that would be right in your wheelhouse.

If I'm reading this correctly, and I think I am, you're saying Beatty will be coaching in Alabama next year. Or, you are saying that is the rumor. Interesting rumor, but that's all I'd call it at this point.
