Colonel Don Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 5 teams playing in the state semi finals next week. When was the last time one area had 5 teams wihin a 15 mile radius playing in the state semi finals? If only the 3A teams wouldn't have let us down. Oh, I forgot, we don't have any. Go NoKY bring home FIVE!
Getslow Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 When was the last time one area had 5 teams wihin a 15 mile radius playing in the state semi finals? Louisville, 2012 comes to mind. Helps that three of the four 6A semifinalists were from here. And Louisville was just a point shy of having five in the semis again with Iroquois falling just short of John Hardin.
75center Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 5 teams playing in the state semi finals next week. When was the last time one area had 5 teams wihin a 15 mile radius playing in the state semi finals? And each one with a fighting chance to make BG. Time to dream!
Hellbird Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 5 teams playing in the state semi finals next week. When was the last time one area had 5 teams wihin a 15 mile radius playing in the state semi finals? I think it's more impressive having 5 from 5 different classes. Louisville usually has a bunch but the majority are from 1 class.
dmh115 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 No. Ky. also had 3 teams lose in the regional finals. When was the last time we had 8 teams make the regional championship game the same year?
Sandman Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 Nice feat, of course three of the classes were locks to be from NKY going into the week. Only surprise to me was Cooper. And that was more the margin than the outcome. I don't think anyone around the state has ever disputed that NKY is among the best football in the state, top to bottom. Obviously Louisville area is loaded as well. Coincidentally, those are the two biggest metro area's in the state (counting Boone, Kenton, and Campbell as a metro area). Along those lines, I can't think of another area that has five high schools in five different classes within 15 miles of each other. So NKY may be the only area able to pull this off. Lastly, Highlands and Cooper MIGHT be 15 miles apart. But if you can get from one to the other in less than 30 minutes you are pulling of a neat trick.

Getslow Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I think it's more impressive having 5 from 5 different classes. Louisville usually has a bunch but the majority are from 1 class. Bound to happen. Louisville has 26 schools playing football. Almost half of them are in three 6A districts. One of the consequences of JCPS being such a gigantic school district (apart from an almost crippling bureaucracy) is that there are a ton of very large schools. Only one school playing 3A. Three in 2A. Only two playing 1A.
Toothpick Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 5 teams playing in the state semi finals next week. When was the last time one area had 5 teams wihin a 15 mile radius playing in the state semi finals? We are trying to keep up with 3 in a 18 mile radius with a fraction of the population. Good job!
Builder1214 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) NKY has enough good football teams that with the right scheduling, you can prepare yourself well for the playoffs. I personally to not think 2A or 5A east brackets nor the regions are very strong, but both Cooper and NCC have prepared themselves for the playoffs by playing SK, Dixie, Campbell etc. Those teams are easily better than any team Cooper or NCC will face until the state title game. IMO, Outside of Louisville, NKY arguably plays better football as a region than rest of the state. Edited November 22, 2014 by Builder1214
