yes! very impressive, I am a fan of all the kids playing but there are some who would want to know how many of those kids are homegrown, and how many are from Ohio.

 

You obviously know nothing about our area. Ohio Football is superior to NKY football at the highest levels. Yes, we will have teams compete, but as a whole they would win 75 % of the battles with our teams, and thats a conservative estimate. You must also remember that Ohio schools have a much much larger school system and districts than NKY too. Attendance is 10:1 in a lot of instances.

 

A good football player here would be more apt to be attracted to go across the river to them than the other way around. We don't get hand me down players. That's a myth.

Look at Beechwood's enrollment, then look at a CPS public school. 10:1 may be a bit much, I'd be happy to cut it to 2:1 if that will make you feel better. Point is that OH schools are much larger. I'm sure that if you're going to try and argue otherwise you will quote a private school as an example, but that's an apple to an orange kind of thing. NKY high schools are dwarfs in comparison. Most high schools over there look like college campus's, and the population base is much higher as well. NKY school districts create new schools when enrollment approaches 1600. Oh schools just build another building.

Primarily it starts when our public school kids are young. We place silly things like academics first and foremost at the elementary and middle school levels. Nobody seems to care about developing kids for sports before high school.

I don't think it's a different culture. Just because Ohio teams have more players to choose from does not mean it's a different culture. I think that's simply a myth to put Ohio High School football on some sort of pedestal.

Johnson Central went and got two teams out of Ohio to play this year (Fairland and a team from Cleveland) JC was a larger school than both. Guess what happened? JC curb stomped them.

 

The CYF (Colonel Youth Football) went over to play in the GCYL Football league for the first time this year. Lots of good football being played there at the youth level I agree. Guess what? All (3) of the CYF teams ended up in the GCYL semi finals their first year in the league. No magic formula- nothing mystical about Cinti football. Just depends on the availability of athletes at hand and some solid coaching.

My point about academics and northern ky public elementary and middle schools is that they do not focus on athletics until HS. A few football programs try too, but overall, all sports included. NKY does not have the same focus CPS do.

Colonel Youth Football is the youth feeder league to Cov Cath- not a public school. The GCYL is the Greater Cincinnati Youth League for Area Catholic grade schools.
