With the information that @barrel gave, plus what I just posted...you can fill in the blanks as to other issues, but coaching isn't one of them. I'd say the program has been blessed with that side of things more than most will ever realize, but......most "don't know what they don't know".

No doubt. All factors that many, across all professions, wouldn't dare try...especially moving the kids from one school to another. Which is why we rarely see see it. I just think we've gotten to the point, and have the last 10-12 years, where outside of 20 or so programs? If your coach(es) sees a full class or 2-3? That 4-6 year range with each hire? Consider yourself the exception.

@AppalachianTactician No doubt. That email posting back when it first came open was highly impressive, and it's something that EVERY school should do, IMO. Mason County, Thomas Nelson and Nelson County were the only one's this year to give an "inside look" as best they could from afar to potential applicants. Those are rare. TOUGH district and region the next two years for that matter. Ashland, Johnson Central, Highlands & CovCath. Obviously that was known before the job even came open, and I'm in NO WAY saying that's the reason it's now open, again & not saying it isn't. Whatever reasons he or anybody else deems what's truly best for their family? That's their business. I know there are some out there (not you), who themselves and/or family, live in the glass house of 'never made wrong decision in taking a job'. But I'm not one of them, or any glass house for that matter. ?

I think that's easy to point to because its fresh in the happenings of the carousel, but some that come to mind just off the top of my head says otherwise or at least are a combined average tenure of "normal circumstances" as it pertains to distance or lack there of to family ties. Lance Gregory- left for Graves County in '09 & has stayed there until recently taking the Central Hardin job. He held the HFC job there through '18 and then again as an the interim in '23. He and his family have been 2-4 hour drives from any next to kin. Jamie Reed- came to South Oldham about the same time that Gregory took the Graves job. Jamie and his family came from Georgia, while having some family in the Cincy area, though, I believe. Luke Salmons- left Huntington, WV last year for the Corbin job. So, that is obviously still TBD. Ethan Atchley- left the Lou/Lex corridor for Christian County last year. Like Salmons, tenure TBD & Atchley took it knowing that the only "guarantee" was going to be for 2 years due to the mega school consolidation. Melvin Cunningham- like Salmons, left the Huntington, WV area last year, but for an even further move in taking the Murray job. Length of tenure still TBD. My point? I'd feel very confident in saying that regardless of relocation distance, the average tenure for 200 of our 220+ football playing schools in the state is somewhere around 5 years (+/- 1 year).

And there in lies the undisputed champ of it all when it comes to this stuff. Why its so taboo and blasphemy towards all of the other warm & fuzzy, feel good, fluffy, run of the mill "coach speak" when talking all things "Keys to Success", but it's the #1 factor and always will be. Coach Glenn is no better example of that. I have a hard time believing that since the 2021 season, he just all of the sudden 'forgot how to coach' and/or 'forgot how to develop talent' (actual talent).

Also..... his three head coaching jobs at the collegiate level weren't exactly powerhouses. As you mentioned, he took MV State to the NCAA tourney, and his 2020 Southern University squad finished 2nd in the regular season before COVID ended the conference tourney that year right before they were to play the SWAC Semifinal game. Is his win career win percentage eye popping? No. However, neither are the programs. He had some good, arguably great years (by said school standards), some .500 type years and some bad years. Which, given the history of these programs? Sounds just about right. Historical evidence of these program's when compared to his time(s) at these places back this up. He was at all of these for what I think most of us would consider a large enough "sample size" as it pertains to the college game to back these comparison's up, too. (4-5 tenures) Mississippi Valley State .367 Win % Woods tenure? .385 Southern University 523 Win % Woods? .438% Morehead State 514% Woods? .524% So, factually, two of his three collegiate stops? He had a higher win % than the overall history of the program(s) to date. I have no idea who applied for the Scott County job, but considering their recent history from the '21-'22 season and on, I can't imagine any current head coaches at legitimate region contending (and beyond) jobs on a yearly basis leaving where they presently are? Maybe so, though. So, assuming the above + the fact that he had any success at all while tenured in his previous schools...then throw in the fact that he played for Rick Pitino. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that he's a pretty solid hire, and with the name recognition to boot.

Many have this, and I'm assuming Somerset does as well, but did the Nickle and/or Dime Tax pass. However they got it, good for them. I love to see it.

50 years later and it still rings true. ”As much as things change, they remain the same.” Along with the added emergence of “county system schools” & privates that both also happen to be college towns/cities. Very happy for Coach Clark!

Like @CoachWatson said, the new admin is wanting a culture change & they are a collective group that is all about athletics. However, even with that (as well as a brand new facility from a stadium, turf field and 100K+ in fieldhouse upgrades)? I’m sure there aren’t many, better yet ANY current HC’s or coordinators due for a job that are looking to leave their current situation (if even remotely a good one) to walk into a two year schedule, top to bottom, that’s only missing Ohio State & Philly.

It's coming as a sanctioned sport within the KHSAA soon & IT WILL TAKE over. I think it will greatly effect soccer and/or softball, depending on if it's set to play in the fall or spring, in particular at many of our smaller independent/rural county schools. A good friend of mine used to HSFB in Florida, and a few years ago he was asked to coach their girls Flag/7v7 team that late winter/early spring? He said on days where baseball, softball and girls 7v7 was all at home? Guess where the biggest crowd was? ?

All of the coaches before him going back to Doug Preston, Bill Baldridge, ShaDon Brown, Kyle Singleton, Ray Graham & Gene Peterson combined win percentage? …wait for it….39% (pretty notable and very successful coaches right there) Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but it’s the honest one……they need better TALENT.

Hardin County doesn't allow administrators to be coaches, correct. That was rumored to be be part of the "deal". I do not believe he will be taking a pay cut. Next year would mark year 25 on (either) pay scale. Hardin County ( & this is without factoring in a bump in pay for all next year, which is a given to happen) $79, 795 (Year 25 on the pay scale) $11, 462 (HFC Stipend) $91, 257 (TOTAL) Graves County $66, 340 (Year 25 on the pay scale) $9, 421 (AP Stipend, & I used Hardin County's HS AP's supplement schedule for this) $9, 933 (I used 28 Extended Days for this as well per Hardin County, common across the state. But I calculated the 'Daily Wage' per Graves County's. 66,340/187= 354.75 x 28 = $9, 933) $85, 694 (TOTAL) (and, again...that's using Hardin County's AP Stipend) To be fair, I didn't factor in still being an assistant football at Graves or assistant AD. However, unless Graves is paying their HS Assistant Principals the same that Hardin is? And going off their base teaching pay when comparing to Hardin? I'm assuming I inflated that 2nd Graves bullet.

Same. Very young bunch that play 99% of the minutes for them...9 of Top 10 all back, 4 Sophs/4 Juniors & a Frosh. Let the thing rip.

Like yesterday's first game, all you could ask for. Hated to see either one lose. I could have watched Sperry & Davidson all day long. Davidson is going to be a monster in the next level. Unbelievable skill set for a big man, already at 6'7" & he's nowhere near done growing. I don't know how much it would have mattered, literally would have made for a Breathitt "long shot", but did Davidson double dribble at the end before the horn sounded with about 1-2 seconds left? Picked it up, bounced again. Easy mistake to have made being overcome with emotion, but all I could think about was the Murray, I mean, Beechwood State Football game in '95.

Sperry and Davis are just fun to watch. U Indy or Southern Indiana (Dick Gabriel said Indy, but I thought it was So. Ind) is getting a steal in Perry & he had a number of football chances, too. Then Davis? Stud. Somebody going to strike gold with him, too, next year. 6'7 and looks like he is 10 years old in the face. Nowhere near done growing.
