Coach is telling his players today.

Josh Cole took over a team that had lost 20 of its last 21 games and went 3-8 then 6-5, making the playoffs both years. Clearly the Braves have improved. Any idea where he is going?

I'm hearing Boyle County, joining the Haddix staff.

Coach Cole is one of the good guys. Hard to find a better man to talk ball with. Had done a phenomenal job with Grant County all things considered.

Yes. Very sad, but can’t blame him for leaving. Rough timing to try to find a new coach before August.

Totally understand it. And I don’t know if he is a teacher or not, but if he is, the late timing very well could have had something to do with a teaching spot opening up at Boyle Co with it being the end of the year and all. 

Congratulations to Josh. Fine young coach. 

The southern move down I 75 will continue.  Sooner or later, an administrator will get geeked up about what Friday night HS ? can do for Grant County Schools. 
 

When, I don’t know. But, this will be a good job someday.

For the people in the know, how possible is it to make Grant Co a winner, whether it be a short term plan or long term? If you had a coach that was willing to see it through with an administration that was on the same page?

It’s the second part that has been the issue pretty much since the beginning. It would take central office, principal and the AD and that’s never happened. I think a number of people would be surprised (or maybe not) if they knew all the challenges the program has faced from within. 
 

The district did change the AD position to a central office position. The district has a number of obstacles. Teacher pay is on the low end. Teachers can go in any number of directions and make more money. There isn’t a lot of business in the area so the same places get tapped from all organizations. There has been a drop in population. If it wasn’t for Covid they would have dropped from 5A to 4A which would have helped. Instead that dropped happened later. 
 

It does appear that once Coach Cole got the job the program was given some things that were not given before. If you look at the history of the program you might have to go back to Mike Davis or before to find when they didn’t hire a coach in May or June. 

With the job opening up so late, are there any names who come to mind? Or, do they hire within and go the interim route? Is there anybody currently on staff who could fill in as interim?

Would former East Jessamine HFC Mike "Bowlin" go back? 

Often, this is the setup for a young assistant coach to get a shot with the timing of the job opening. 
 

I would look for a young assistant from a staff that is having success building a program. Would be a tough gig for a guy with a blue-blood background.

I highly doubt it. His son will be a senior for Scott County this upcoming season.
