I'm hearing Boyle County, joining the Haddix staff.

Monty Joe was a very successful coach at Richmond Madison.

What we have seen at other county schools is going to play out at Grant County, eventually.

Geography and economic growth will lead to a community and administration that want good football.

To all the guys that have fought the good battle at Grant County, I have much respect. Those places when they get started are awful tough.

Hard to believe now....

Boyle was winless in 1967 & 1968.

Mercer County did not have a winning season until 1974. Now, the bleachers at old Harrodsburg HS (old city school powerhouse) are red.

Mason County had athletes but just had a lot to learn about football.

May not even be in my lifetime, but SOME DAY , some brilliant football fan will say, "Well, anyone can win at Grant County."

Before my end at Mason and Mercer, that's what our fans were saying, and I was good with that. Hopefully, soon, they will be saying , "Anybody can win at Anderson County."

Very well put. Slowly but surely it's creeping Grant County's way.

He is the first coach to get in school lifting and was allowed to lift before school. Both of those had never been allowed.

I am a little confused here. What exactly do you mean by in school lifting? Like lifting during the school day? Or lifting on school premises?

In school lifting, during the school day.  As a class.

The school would not allow AM lifts before school and they would give coaches an athletic period (in school weights). Their competition certainly had those in most cases.

There were other issues with the use of the weight room, weight room equipment and funding.

Any idea about how many schools offer that? Mine never had it. I have heard of it though as an extracurricular course and thoughy that it was really something cool for a school to do for their kids in general. Is it considered like a PE-2 or health class?

Scott Co, Montgomery Co, Great Crossing, Boyle, Larue, Shelby Co, Franklin Co, I believe Highlands has added it and that’s just off the top of my head. It has become a much more common practice over the last 10+ years. Outside the state of KY it is very common.

To add to just strange things that were common practice before Coach Cole that are not typical. The football program had to pay for on game nights officials (this is common), gate workers, EMS, police officers and either had to pay someone to clean the stands and collect all the bagged trash or the coaches/team had to. The only thing the district provided for the team was field paint. Anything past that the team had to find the money for.

Corbin, Bowling Green, Graves County, McCracken County, Tilghman,Taylor County, Campbellsville, Mercer County, John Hardin, Elizabethtown, Nelson County, Thomas Nelson, Central Hardin, North Hardin Bardstown, Scott County, Belfry, Pulaski County, Southwestern, South Warren, Warren East, Warren Central, on and on and on.

Now, some treat it as a hodge podge of kids, some treat it for student athletes only, some do it where specific sports have certain periods, some only do it for part of the day & some do it where it’s a mix of all the above.

But all of those schools and plenty more, have it in some form or fashion.

Bingo on that last part.

@Honey Badger…you go further south into Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina & Texas is an obvious one, but if you go to almost ANY school in that state? It’s a given.

Not just a given, but the majority of them have it where it’s set up for each team has their own period of the day.

For football? Even further than that…each CLASS within the program has their own period of the day and/or set up by groups.   For example….Frosh/JV= 1st period/block & Varsity= Last Period/Block.

Also….they can start practice during that period as well or in some cases, finish up practice during that period as well (if practice before school, which is MORE than common practice in AL, GA, TX)

In Georgia? For Middle School aged student athletes? Their PE semester of Health/PE is IN SCHOOL weights.

…sounds like one of, unfortunately, many high schools in our state that are interested in having a football TEAM & not a football PROGRAM.

We have it at Anderson and it has really helped our football program. The school year just ended and this has been our best one so far in the weightroom.

Had a player from Corbin, played there in the early 80's, told me he NEVER stayed after school to lift weights when he was in HS. The Redhounds were ahead of the curve.
